Friday June 15, 2007 – 2:00pm In regards to Mike’s question about my Friday night 'Cirkle' gatherings: yes, the ‘Law of the Strong’ (Liber AL vel Legis II:21) is, as you have been told, printed out and put on my refrigerator in order to remind me daily of how to Thelemically live. The Law goes as follows: A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo, and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular culling of the weakest members. In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills off brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, or so I firmly believe, regular consumption of beer every Friday night at my apartment will eliminate the weaker brain cells, constantly making my brain a faster and more efficient machine.
7:35am I received this question in an email: “You wrote in CORNELIA of Angel and Demons or ‘One you must control while the other controls you’ and you seem to stress that we must choose carefully which is which. But if I believe in Satanism as a viable religion must I still control my Demon or should I let him run wild?” ... Answer: I believe some people think too much but, none-the-less, this is a good question. Lets consider the facts; a true Satanist wants control over his or her Malkuth [reality] as-well-as the four-fold forces of Malkuth in order to ‘experience’ their incarnation unhindered and to its fullest; to drink as ye will, to play as ye will and to take your fill of love when, where and with who ye will - following but one Law; “Do what thou wilt.” Etc & etc. We see this world as our playground. We know the Truth that the lower ‘daimon’ is a neutral entity that can become either good or evil. The question is – “What is evil?” According to our Thelemic principles the only sin is restriction. And restriction occurs when the lower daimon moves into its ‘demon’ phase where it tries to take control of your Malkuth in order to have power over you. So, do you want to let your Demon run free? I don’t. Perhaps the terminology of ‘Angel & Demon’ should be abandoned because of the negative luggage that both words carry after centuries of religious vomit sticking to them which implies two separate enties? Thursday June 14, 2007 – 11:15am Here is a tidbit for those who know my 11 year old son Faustus. I just got back from Washington Elementary School here in Berkeley where I attended his Graduation Ceremony. Yes, it was his last day in elementary school. Next year he’ll attend Sixth Grade at the local Middle School. He is growing up fast! In fact, he even ballroomed danced "with a girl” this week but admittedly no one could get ice cream unless they did so, so at least he has his priorities. And speaking of these foul little female creatures; recently Faustus and I were watching TV and while I was in the kitchen grabbing a brew I overheard him utter, “Humma humma.” Curiosity got me and I peeked back into the room. There was a commercial on the TV with girls in scantily clad underwear prancing around. Ah, yes, my son is growing up! Pretty soon he’ll be asking to borrow my magick wand and paraphernalia, sniff sniff and then it’ll be only a matter of time before he summons Cthulhu! Believe it or not, he already bellows a mean Apo Pantos Kakodaimonos!
Wednesday June 13, 2007 – 11:15am A reply from Bob asks, "When did you form this CIRKLE?" ... Answer: Myself and Paul Hohlt both unknowingly were the first two who loosely formed it in December of 2005. Over time a "circle of friends" began stopping by my apartment here in Berkeley on Friday nights. We'd sit around and drink while chatting about AA, magick, philosophy, Aleister Crowley, good books, sci-fi or simply to watch bad B-movies. But it officially became known as the CIRKLE on Saturday December 9th 2006 and from that point on every single Friday has become an 'OPEN HOUSE.'
9:40am I received this question: “You’ve mentioned your Friday night gatherings at your apartment a few times over the last few months in emails as the ‘Cirkle’. At first I thought it a typo. I presume you change the ‘c’ to a ‘k’ to reflect Crowley’s similar change to the word magick?” ... Answer: Yes and not completely. I base the term ‘Cirkle’ after ‘The circle and the square’ of the magickal degree. Even more important lets break down the word: 1. The first two letters of CIRKLE are CI and they numerically add to 18 and the18th Thoth card is The Moon the ruler of Cancer. C also equals CHETH whichin Hebrew adds to 418. The ‘I’ is Yod, The Hermit card. ... Also of interest:the number 56 (the number value of NU / AL I:24) when divided by 3 [i.e. this2. The next two letters or RK = numerically add to 220 the number of verses inLiber AL vel Legis. It is also one of the numerical values of the word ‘Earth.’ 3. and finally the letters LE = LA/NOT, or Nuit. LE numerically adds to 35. And on that note: CIRKLE adds numerically in full to 273 which is a Secret but here is a tiny piece of its Wisdom: OX [my 5th Degree OTO tattoo] numerically adds to 76. The same as ‘WILL.’ ... Add this number to 197 and you’ll get 273. ... But what is 197 you ask? To which I can only reply, “What, you do not know?” All IXth Degree OTO initiates know this Truth. It’s secretly tucked away in Crowley’s writings exposing the symbolism behind his article ‘MY LADY OF THE BREECHES’ section VI. [which he wrote using an alias] I can say no more! ... In ending; YES my Friday nights are truly a ‘CIRKLE’ gathering of like minds and if you fully understand what this means then you were meant to attend! 7:20am I know this has nothing to do with magick, Crowley or even the New Aeon but it amuses me to no end. Just when I thought our US military couldn’t get any more ridiculous I read that in 1994 Wright Laboratories in Ohio submitted a proposal to create a ‘GAY BOMB.’ Yes, you heard it correct and what it was designed to do is even sillier. Logic made me wonder if, by its ‘name’, it wasn’t designed to kill gays but, ‘NO!” Instead I read that the original proposal suggests that a strong ‘aphrodisiac’ could be developed and dropped on the enemy which would cause, and I quote, “homosexual behaviour.” The idea being that the enemy would be so “sexually irresistible” to each other and pre-occuppied with having sex that they’d forget to fight us and it would cause what the military called a “distasteful but completely non-lethal” blow to their morale. ... In truth, the only ‘blow to morale’ is mine thinking about how my tax dollars are being used! Sunday June 10, 2007 – 8:00am Here is a piece of divine Wisdom taken from the unpublished diary of Aleister Crowley on October 25th 1939. Magicians should memorize this because, as scientists, it should be their foundation stone - "People who avoid facing facts are bounded by phantoms." ... And I might add, "People who are caught up in phantoms are most likely to be in denial about their folly."

It read, "Glad to know Robles is cooling his heels in Santa Rita (where they threatened to take me) Karma takes it's time, but can be a bitch when it comes due. (I esp. enjoyed the details about his drinking probs. and inability to 'open up' to others on the force about his problems). For the record, I don't think your publishing had anything to do w/ the 82 yr. old woman's death. It was likely her time to go and at least she did the public a favor by taking that lying pig down. (Don't know how DRJ makes this connection, since no specifics after "headline") In any case, thanks for keeping me in the loop. I'd love to attend his trial and gloat . . .”
9:20am Every Friday night I hold gatherings at my apartment here in Berkeley where we openly discuss AA matters, magick and Thelema. During last night’s gathering at my apartment; as the evening wore on, we inevitably reduced ourselves to drinking too much while [in this case] reading from RED FLAME, A Thelemic Research Journal No.6 THE FOOLISH ISSUE. It was quite entertaining reviewing some of the old jokes and parodies. Then Ben offered us a new gem based on ‘Cornelius humor.’ Of course such humor is not based on things which I consider funny as much as what others consider funny about me. ... Bring it on I mumbled as Ben uttered the now infamous truth: “The corn is on the cob, not the cob on the corn.” Outsiders may not get the twisted pun based on a verse from The Book of the Law - in relationship to me - but rest assured, after three or four Sherries it sounds funnier. Thursday June 7, 2007 – 2:50pm Here is a comment that I received which is worth mentioning. In defense of David Jones someone sent me an email writing, “I believe that when David Jones writes that you are ‘stirring shite’ (i.e. shit) its one of his typical worldly political puns. He is stating that you are not only stirring up shit but you’re acting like a 'Shite' (Muslim) blindly attacking innocent people by throwing bombs 'on the astral’ by writing Memoirs of an OTO Initiate and in doing so you caused astral ramifications through sloppy magick which killed an innocent women.” ... Answer: What? First of all, I’m not doing ‘astral magick’ in publishing this story, I’m simply a historian, nor have I ever done sloppy Goetic magickal blunders which caused a police raid that drew Robles down upon OTO as did some people. And second, if I’m stirring up anything its releasing facts that others want buried about their past. Lets not cross the planes; sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, a drunken cop is just a drunken cop and playing the ‘sloppy magick’ card is simply someone looking in a mirror and seeing their reflection.

Why this is amusing is because the ‘retired cop’ is Guillermo Robles who spear-headed the police raid on the Ordo Templi Orientis back in 1989. Retired cop suspected of drunken driving
in fatal accident

BERKELEY - A retired Berkeley police officer has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he hit and killed an elderly woman who was crossing the street Sunday night on Solano Avenue near the Oaks movie theater. The name of the woman, who police said was in her 80s, was not released pending notification of her family. It appears she was alone when she was struck on Solano Avenue at Fresno Street, police said. Police arrested Guillermo Robles, 56, a retired street cop and a former member of the undercover narcotics team who worked for the department for 20 years, police said.He was placed arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of drunken driving and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he remains in lieu of $30,000 bail, said Berkeley Police spokesman Lt. Wesley Hester.The California Highway Patrol was called to the scene as a watchdog agency during the field sobriety test because Berkeley police officers on scene had worked with the suspect."We wanted to eliminate any issue of bias towards him," said Hester.Robles retired in 2001, although the circumstances of his retirement were not available early Monday."It's very, very sad," Hester said.Details of the incident remained sketchy Monday as police worked to piece together what happened shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday on Solano Avenue.Police said the woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a car. It was not known if she was in a crosswalk. Emergency medical crews treated her on the scene and transported her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, Hester said. Hester said police were notified about the incident by an employee of the Oaks Theatre, which is near the intersection of the collision. Police said Robles remained on scene through out the investigation. Hester called him a "good street cop." Sources said Robles had problems with alcohol whileworking for the department."He had a lot of personal problems, he just never opened up to anyone," said a source who knows Robles.The incident Sunday is yet another blemish on the Berkeley Police Department in the last two years.Former police Sgt. Cary Kent, who admitted last year to tampering with 286 evidence envelopes while in charge of the drug evidence locker, retired last year during an internal affairs probe.Kent later pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing heroin and methamphetamine and was sentenced to one year in an electronic home detention program and five years probation.Earlier this year, two officers under investigation by the department's internal affairs division for serious misconduct left the force.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5:40am I received a question from a curious little historian who asked, “Is it true that Grady obtained IXth Degree OTO over a game of chess with Crowley?” ... Answer: Life is like a game of Chess, Crowley knew this. You either play white or black; defend or attack. Id like to quote something from In The Name of the Beast, A biography of Grady Louis McMurtry, Volume I, Pg.52 . “We also know that Crowley loved playing chess. Grady had fond memories of playing game after game with him as they smoked perique. Crowley also introduced him to the brandy snifter, handing him his first brandy saying, “Let us act like the proper British gentlemen we are.” Grady believed that Crowley was simply trying to civilize this ‘American Barbarian.’ It was during one of these early meetings, while Grady was playing chess with the Great Beast, that Crowley expounded his theory of the game. Crowley believed that he could divine a person’s character simply by playing chess with them. He felt that if one opened toward the right side, or the King’s pawn, this meant a fast, slashing and rather reckless attack. On the other hand, a left opening with the Queen’s pawn usually implied that one “is going in for Hyper-Modern theory where anything was possible,” and this meant a slower, more leisurely and intellectual type of game. Grady often jokingly stated “I tend to the right side, myself,” and it appears that Aleister Crowley liked his openings very much. According to Grady, it was while both were playing chess one morning that Crowley simply looked up from the board and said, “You are obviously IXth Degree material,” and that is how Grady received his official papers, becoming a IXth Degree member of the Ordo Templi Orientis, over a game of chess. Crowley had ‘divined’ Grady’s character through his moves, which is something he did with everyone whom he played. In the old email I wrote: “I see by your comments that you think the ‘Enochian is a hierarchal model’ of Old Aeonic proportions, well, damn it, it is and that is not something that is to be thrown out in the New Aeon with the bath water. As I told another student recently; “If you have a problem with God and of entities above and below, get the Hell out of Magick. You’ll never succeed beyond subjective meandering which will be legends in your own mind.” Yes I am harsh but I will not waste my time on a student who sees no higher than Self. Remember, As Above, So Below! If on this plane there is a division of classes from slaves to Kings then why not in the Universe? If there is War here, why not there? Again, As Above, So Below.” 5:10am Paul, one of my students, sent me a very interesting email last night with this tidbit regarding 'Thelemic numbers' that I’d like to share. He writes, “Hi Jerry 93. I just learned that in addition to being 93 Million miles from Malkuth the Sun also changes its magnetic polarity every 11 years. From that new Discovery series on The Universe.” ... How could Crowley have ever known such facts in 1904 when he was establishing the Solar cult of Thelema unless he was merely a vehicle of the Gods? Yes, science is proving Thelema right at every turn!Wednesday June 6, 2007 – 9:45am After reading yesterday’s blog entry from U. H. Cumming and Kathleen I received this comment – “Hi Jerry, what's that buzzing noise? Someone kicked a wasp net. Glad it wasn't me.” ... My reply, “I get quite a few jabs thrown at me regarding my blog which I really get pleasure from. But I post less than 1/10th of all incoming emails and questions due to either sheer stupidity, flaunted arrogance or meaningless jabs. Most people attack me for “revealing OTO secrets”, “violating Oaths” in their fraternity of which I do not belong or they are emails from women, whom I seemingly offend a lot, and who wish to tell me where I’m WRONG! Ironically quite a few women get offended about a ‘man’ talking about women’s mysteries of which, and to quote Kathleen, “You know nothing about.” And then Kathleen proceeded in a lengthy email to tell me her views of why men, like myself, act the way we do, as if I were married to her. Is this not a double standard? Anyway, most emails I let slide but every now and then I feel the need to publish one of their ‘wasp-like jabs’ because I’m in a twisted mood and feel my reply can throw a bit of irony back their way. Not that it’ll do any good. I think I’ll publish part of this email. Kathleen has been quiet and needs to be stirred up. I think she must have gone back to her nest.”

From a letter to Grady Louis McMurtry dated August 18th 1943Tuesday June 5, 2007 – 11:00am I received an interesting comment from a reader this morning who wrote, “I just visited your website for the first time and read over the article on the appearance of a woman, seemingly "sent by the gods", in the life of a male Neophyte and serving to test/tempt him from his Work. I found this a remarkable essay on the subject, having just experienced a similar scenario and of parsons-type proportions. (Seemingly so and no doubt a part of the delusion.) I would be interested in your feedback. I'm most concerned with ‘recovering’ from the Ordeal and I have not been of mind to consider it in any way a failure. I've come to see my experience as an opportunity for a quality of self-knowledge I would not have been able to gain had I not delved into this magical abortion. The simplest way of recovery for anyone functioning ‘horizontally’ in a magickal pursuit is conscious realization of one’s stumbling blocks along the path. The Kundry however, will mutate in order to subtly if not unconsciously ‘control’ you. This is the nature of one’s demon. You’re trying to get off Malkuth and climb the Tree and she’s trying to keep you on it. This does not make her a vile creature. The magician is simply someone who is trying to take control of ‘Nature’ [four-fold Malkuthian forces] and she is someone who wishes to remain in control. The best way to get over such folly along the way is to smile and go forward and always remember that harping upon too much in a negative way will inevitably keep your focus in the past or paths already walked; turn away from Malkuth and look upward toward your Star (i.e. Tiphereth). The older I get the more I see the sense of the milk delivery idea.” ... We also include the next section to THE MAGICKAL ESSENCE OF ALEISTER CROWLEY titled An Open Letter on Enochian Magick. And we include our 'crowd-pleaser' or Chapter Five of MEMOIRS OF AN OTO INITIATE. This chapter discusses the actual night where the 'Police Raid' took place against the OTO in Berkeley, California in 1989 with all its gruesome details! Finally, we continue on with our biography series; this time we'll discuss William Seabrook and his connection with Aleister Crowley. I also release an old historial piece from Grimoire Verum titled the Conjuration of a Girl which uses the name ON.
4:45pm In regards to my blog entry of May 31st 10:45am about Liber RESH one of my students wrote, “Great topics on the blog! Resh is a fascinating ritual and your hints are opening up some new things for me. Thanks. Also, you wrote: Here is the breakdown of the five chapters in Liber 65: the First Chapter = Earth; the Second = Air, the Third = Water, the Fourth = Fire and the Fifth Chapter = Spirit. ... I’m not sure why Crowley attributed the Chapters in this fashion and not in their proper elemental order: Earth/Prithivi, Water/Apas, Fire/Tejas, Air/Vayu and Spirit/Akasha.” ... He then added, “If that's the Hindu order of the attributions, the Jewish order could be Earth/Assiah, Air/Yetzirah, Water/Briah, Fire/Atziluth and Spirit/Ain Soph. Could this be the reason? I got this out of The Qabalistic Tarot by Robert Wang.” I quickly replied, “Yes, you may well be right but also, if you look at an Enochian Watchtower, the Elemental order begins with earth at the bottom left, moves up to Air, over to Water and down to Fire; or rather simply clockwise around the Watchtower in a swirling motion but, be that as it may, I kinda like your thoughts.
