Monday November 17th 2008 – 6:15pm Andy West writes, "The blogs been great lately. All the info on Kundalini and Libido has been very illuminating. While reading I noticed some similarity between Maslows hierarchy of needs and the raising of libido through the psychic centers. Maslow's hierarchy begins with the base needs of food, water and sex which corresponds pretty well with the Mulhadara chakra. Then safety and shelter are next on the list which the belly chakra could represent pretty comfortably. Social needs and being loved are next which corresponds well with the solar plexus chakra, and it's association with Venus, goddess of love. Next we move up to esteem needs, recognition and status which I can see as lower Tiphereth ego. Finally we move to Self-Actualization or upper Tiphereth. Later in life Maslow added another level to the hierarchy where one takes more pleasure in the success of those to come after them than in their own, which seems like it could fit the upper three chakras and those in the Hermit grade. It's perhaps a little reductionist but still it seems to show how until one level on the hierarchy, or chakra, is fulfilled and mastered then the energy and attention will not move up to the next one." ... and he ends it with "P.S. 10:20am Regarding Saturday's 9:50am posting by Luna; Jerri replies, "Well, I've been fantasizing about (uh...I mean contemplating...) what series of events in ones existence might warrant...wait, HOW many orgasms?! The amount of exquisite dedication that would be involved by any and all participants in such festivities is quite phenomenal...Mmm...Ok...seriously, not only do I want *details* but more importantly, names and phone numbers (**all serious applicants with a history of single-minded devotion will be taken into consideration for immediate assignment...). .. **impotent OTO initiates need not apply." ........ My reply: I once read in a Japanese manual where a man should be willing to utilize what ever means it takes, using toys or other device, to bring a woman to 'satisfaction' as often as she desires and then, when she is pleased; then and only then, let him "partake of his lesser death." … So the trouble as I see it in America, where multi-orgasms are often lacking, is sometimes the woman's fault! … She almost never walks into the bedroom with whip, dildo and other device in hand, throwing all but the whip on the bed in front of her man, and then snapping the whip in the air yelling, "I'm having sex tonight and you better be ready!"  … and, if he’s ignorant of such [as with the case of most men] she should be willing to teach her man of her proclivities and how to properly use her toys. 3:45am For the history buffs: On November 17, 1900 Aleister Crowley evoked the 29th Aethyr in Mexico although Israel Regardie wrote, “... the seer here is obviously unskilled and untrained relatively speaking, and had not overcome the effects of his early upbringing and conditioning.” …………. And Francis Israel Regudy, better known as Israel Regardie, was born on this date in London, England in 1907. His parents were poor Jewish immigrants and during the course of WWI, when his older brother joined the army, his name was accidentally written down as “Regardie.” Rather than change it, it was adopted as the family name when they moved to America. Later Regardie also dropped the use of Francis, preferring to be known simply as Israel Regardie. He would become the short lived personal secretary to Aleister Crowley. Upon meeting Crowley he was ordered to lose his ‘virginity’ as quickly as possible with the visit to a ‘local prostitute!’ Regardie was also a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, known as Frater Ad Majorem Adonai Gloriam. He died on March 10, 1985 of a heart attack while having dinner with friends at one of his favorite restaurants in Sedona, Arizona. …………. And on November 17, 1979 Immanuel Velikovsky, the author of Worlds in Collision, died at the age of 84 in Princeton, New Jersey. He often stated that, “... science is proving I was right all along.” He implied that his theories that questioned the knowledge of Earth’s history, which he based upon cosmic catastrophes involving our planet and its influence on the course of civilization, were being proven true time and time again. ……… and finally, on November 17, 1996 near East Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada the area suffered a blackout. One witness who was leaving the Skytrain Station claimed that she saw a large black square shaped UFO moving low over nearby Slocan Park. Arriving at her daughter’s residence she heard a “whoo” sound outside and upon investigating the two women saw a tennis ball size blue light maneuvering over the area. At one point it dropped close to the ground near the trees. Later, the woman and her daughter went over to the area to investigate and found strange marks on the ground. In ancient Egypt...the men, actually, filed an official complaint to the offices of mayors....they complained that their women were off worshipping, and celebrating, BAST...the HOT KITTY IN THE SKY...and were not home to cook and clean. 4:25pm Dave writes, "I must say I was for some reason mistaken that all of Crowley's offspring had died. I was doing a search for Aleister Ataturk and came across this post on Lashtal. The gentleman claims to be the son of the daughter of Ninette Shumway and A.C. Astarte Lulu Panthea. He lives in Oakland according to his myspace account. So you probably have met him." ..... Reply: I've heard this too but I never met him: Astarte Lulu Panthea was born to Ninette Shumway and AC on November 26, 1920 in Palermo, Sicily. However, I'm not saying this guy in Oakland is not Aleister Crowley's grandson but I've heard so many people making 'claims' of being Crowley's descendant that I'm very, very leery unless I see hard evidence.

4:00pm An old friend Nikolai sent me an email which probably won't matter to many outside the Bay Area but for locals it is worth mentioning. He writes, "93! Dear Jerry: Stephan Alexander's cat, Ashtar, passed away yesterday morning. Her health was failing and we tried to extend her life, and she did show signs of recovery, but something went terribly wrong yesterday morning. She was not in agony and she did die in peace. Ashtar was well cared for by me and she knew that she was loved by all of us.  She was very happy to have lived with us and we will never forget her. Love is the law, love under will. --Nikolai Nikolayevich." ........ I remember that cat; she lived at Thelema Lodge on 63rd Street.

Reply: You are right but to know one sex is know both, merely by reflection, and it annoys me to see so many great women magickally being lead astray especially since many in this area come out of the OTO damaged for life. In the early 1990s when I was still a member of OTO we all constantly talked about certain insipid 'males' in authoritarian positions ignorantly leading members astray but let me say this, ignorance is not simply a 'male' trait. Sadly, women in the OTO are not being lead astray by just the men but mostly by know-it-all women. ... Of interest is when she asked, "I hear ya but are you saying that outside a 'phallic cult' women can utilize all the power that flows through them and that in a phallic cult it is simply channeled through us and used by men?" .... Reply: Admittedly, I think I wasn't clear. When ever opposite sex is involved there are certain Laws of Nature which cannot be ignored. On the lowest mundane level; man inserts penis into vagina, squirt squirt, after an appropriate gestation period in the womb the child is then born through the birth canal. Is the woman not acting as a 'channel' or 'vehicle'? This doesn't mean that her role is any less important in the process than man but where phallic magick is concerned the 'Word' being made Flesh is not an actual fleshy child but a magickal intent which must be controlled very carefully by the man, nourished by the women, in order for it to carry the Will of the God. This 'intent' can easily be killed if the woman 'knows' it; which she'll do unconsciously despite her repeated mundane pleas to the contrary if you simply tell her. Its not her fault, its her nature. Read Liber Aleph. ... Basically, inside a phallic cult women should be kept in the dark and simply used as 'vehicles' which is the ONLY term used for them in the OTO Grade Papers. In a phallic cult to give a woman equal footing implies 'death' to the magickal working. Have you ever read the 'lofty aspirations' in upper degree Grade Papers that are mandatory in IXth degree workings and realized that 99% of these are NOT being fulfilled in the OTO? I guess giving women more intellectual authority to add female Mysteries is working well for this Order? ... Anyway, yes, outside a phallic cult a woman can learn the magickal properties of her anatomy and use it to understand Self just as men have been doing for centuries in regards to their own anatomy. In both cases a women's role and a man's remain the same; in both cases they don't need the opposite sex ... but I don't want to imply here that what the OTO is teaching in these woman's gathering is OK. Its not; it is the death pangs of the phallic cult and men are just too stupid to realize it.

5:15am For the history buffs: The movie based on H. G. Well’s 1897 classic novel titled The Invisible Man opened in theaters on this date in 1933. Its premise, rather simple, is about a scientist who turns himself invisible but the formula slowly drives him insane, which causes him to terrorize the countryside as an invisible killer. …….. and on November 16, 1957 Edward Gein of Plainfield Wisconsin was caught. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Psycho were loosely based on his life. Edward Gein was known to his neighbors as being a kind and generous man, always giving away “free deer meat” and often eating such himself if invited to dinner. However, it was later revealed after his arrest that Gein never killed a single deer. The truth as to where the meat really came from forced many of Plainfield’s residents to shudder and ‘become sick.’ ……… and on November 16, 1996 in Casablanca, Valparaiso, Chile several local students at the basic Manuel Baquedano school reported encountering several little gnome like men who wore different color clothing and usually hid in the trees and bushes. 1:00pm Mary writes, "Isn't Marlene Cornelius your ex-wife and one of the speakers tomorrow giving a lecture on Babalon up in Sacramento at the OTO women's gathering? Wouldn't she be giving a fair assessment of 'women' since she was in your AA and helped release your Red Flame No.7 which contains Crowley's secret formulas?"  .....  Reply: This is a fair question. Marlene was in our AA before we expelled her and yes, she assisted in releasing RF7 but at no time did she have anything intellectual to do with its writing. Throughout our relationship, every time I tried to talk to her about sex magick she always reared her Scorpio tail up and argued that she 'knew it' all about women and how I was 'wrong' because I was a man. By the mid-90s I gave up talking to her because her views were bigoted, not even close to OTO related material and they were way-off what Crowley wrote about elsewhere or even envisioned. ... Besides, although we were married I was not her immediate AA superior nor did I really want to teach where I wasn't wanted. So, we had a simple 'husband-wife' relationship, never anything magickal. ... Anyway, Marlene's lecture is on, and I quote: "Sphere of Mars; Warriors & Revolutionaries", which if I had to judge her past track record implies her Scorpio ability to fuck over the spiritual Order in quest of the material. She belongs in the OTO. They'll probably make her a Saint someday.

9:50am Luna and I have been emailing back and forth and in one of her emails she writes, “My personal best on multiple orgasms still hovers around 39.....but, in the past, everytime I had tried to get above this number...the phone would ring, and I would answer it...and it would be a girlfriend of mine, calling, and complaining that her poet boyfriend wasn't cleaning and cooking...and I go distracted. 7:35am Luna sent this great email yesterday, she writes - "I was Googling various women mages last week, as Domino was sitting here making pink panties for dolls...and the thing that popped up on all of the sites, that Domino took fast note of, was the fact that all the sites claimed to be "safe".  I am not very intellectual, and I am out of the loop of the lingo and political jargon...but there is a ring of truth to what Domino pointed out.  I do not, by nature, like to be derisive, but I am satirical...and I just have to "teach by example"...I just have to stay in the "bushido zone", otherwise I go kookoo. My ex-wife, Laura, bought me a present (circa 1979), it was a T-Shirt that said:  "It isn't Pretty being Easy". ... Now, a Women's Mystery Convention that I would attend is something along the lines of "Why can women have 93 Orgasms in a row, non-stop?"....much more exciting than hystorically teaching and lecturing on how this lady, or that lady,  cooked meals for him while he was out of his mind writing poetry. ... Shadow reminded me, a few months ago, that Crowley's Women did NOT stay at home and always cook and clean...that the Crowley Women...and I (dare) say ALL Magickal Women are just as fast to partake of "insanity" as any man....and more so....and as Judge Judy says:  "Don't piss on my leg and call it rain." .......... Reply: The BEST that women can do in the OTO is to ‘create’ a fictitious grandiose picture of themselves by bringing in images of what other ancient cults of the Goddess had created in the past as if they are an ‘extension’ of those group. [excuse me while I vomit] They forget that all old aeonic Goddess cults were being bathed in the male dominant aeon of Piscean currents which obviously affected how the women saw the world. Now don't get me wrong; there is nothing erroneous with women studying ancient cults, as men have done in trying to understand phallic mysteries but we are now into the age of Aquarius which is the feminine aeon of the daughter and it has always been my contention that women, instead of looking to the past for solutions to their magick, should look inside themselves. The Truth is NOT found in old books. There is a reason why those ancient female cults are dead. There time was then and the world moved on ... is it any wonder the OTO is modern limp dick Order if it allows its women to seek out dead things rather than to inspire the lust in the hearts of humanity from the point-of-view of now? ... Anyway, the over-all problem as I see it for any OTO 'Women’s Gathering" is that the OTO, despite its present limp dick syndrome, it is still a phallic cult. .... Women, form your own group and stop riding the coattail of the OTO. Get out from under its umbrella and breathe some fresh air!

He wrote such works as The Drown World (1962), Vermilion Sand (1971), the best-selling novel Empire of the Sun (1984) and A User's Guide to the Millennium (1996). …........ on this date in 1938 the Puebloan Chieftain ran an article which stated, “Old-timers living along the Arkansas River near Salida have told tales for many years of the fur-bearing trout indigenous to the waters of the Arkansas near there.” The basic story was that the waters of certain lakes and rivers in the area were so cold that a species of ‘trout had evolved’ to grow a thick coat of fur to maintain its body heat. This would begin one of the greatest ‘fish stories’ ever perpetrated. It was amazing how many people actually believed in the story, especially after seeing photographs of the hairy fish stuffed and mounted in the newspaper. …….... As they drove past the old abandoned power plant building they suddenly saw two large glowing red eyes staring at them from a distance. Roger Scarberry slowed his vehicle to get a closer look, and in the dark they all could make out something that seemed to be about the same size and shape as a man but it didn’t seem to have a head. Its glowing red eyes were on its chest. It also had large wings folded behind its back. Friday November 14th 2008 – 6:00pm -"93 Jerry, Tell Luna this: Well my beautiful Luna, if I wanted to celebrate woman and femininity why the hell would I go to a conference given by a solar-phallic cult (Granted, the OTO used to be solar-phallic in nature, as Crowley intended it to be. Now however, it's mysteries have been misinterpretted and obstructed making the poor phallus impotent. Now, I don't know about you, but generally I am frustrated and unimpressed by the limp dick...)?   Yes, I wouldn't hold my breath that anything of interest or uniquity will be coming out of that gathering whatsoever. In fact, it is just another classic example of feminism in it's most reviled and misguided form--and should be the utter BANE of all women every-fucking-where!!! Why? We will not EVER find 'equality' by trying to be like men, using male systems. It is only confusing, and we can LOSE ourselves and our natures through the process. We must pave our own way, to discover OURSELVES (through women's mysteries). If that is what their conference was about, I'd be all for it. 93 93/93 Jerri." 

1:35pm Luna writes, "I was told about the Sacramento Women's conference a dozen times over the last year.  I am amused by the flap about it.  Every woman that saw my artwork decided that I should join this group, for they assumed that I was in that "political faction".  I just sit back and watch and listen.....I harbor a teeny tiny hope that something unusual will come of this, but historically, my involvment with so called feminist do gooders in the past shows me that it will just draw out the same old same old.  Like when they did the Take Back the Night marches on Broadway in San Francisco...and the ones marching in the streets did not have a clue that the dancers inside were radical lesbians. Interesting. Wonder what our sweet and intellegent Jerri has to say on this."

New comment: Starting tomorrow, is the actual weekend when the OTO is gathering [although ticket sales are really, really lame which implies either not many people are interested or the OTO has gotten smaller over the years] ... Be that as it may, I continued by earlier entry by writing - "This is another classic example of the degradation into mud of a once noble phallic Fraternity. We NEVER see the men of OTO holding seminars. I guess they’re too pussy-whipped to speak; they’d rather keep their phallic Mysteries flaccid and in need of Vigara! Now don’t get me wrong; if the Order ‘sponsored’ such a gathering it would be fine but reviewing their pamphlet implies that once again the OTO is not the same OTO as Aleister Crowley had envisioned. This is because it is allowing woman to incorporate outside views of the Goddess into their teachings rather than making them understand the woman's role as taught by Crowley in the Gnostic Mass and as dictated by upper degree Grade Papers. Instead, men of the OTO are simply allowing women to re-write its Gnostic Mass Mysteries to fit a new feminine role as superior over its phallic teachings - the Phallus is limp, long live the Goddess! … Still, I guess its OK to look at outside teachings, which might appeal to some women but to me it only proves what we’ve know for years, the OTO has lost its Mysteries. We joked in the mid-1990s that it was becoming a little boys club … but now I wish to add, “Does anyone want to buy Girl Scout cookies, they’re selling them after the Mass.”  .......... New comment: I'm simply bringing up my old blog entry due to recent developments regarding what 'women are teaching' as a reminder of their inspid behavior and rather than post what I recently learned about the OTO and motherhood and what should come first, I'll leave the above for everyone to speculate upon.

6:30am For the history buffs: Aleister Crowley evoked the 30th Aethyr of John Dee’s Enochian system in Mexico on this date in 1900 and later wrote, “What I saw was not beyond my experience, but what I heard was unintelligible to me as Blake to a Baptist.” …...…. And on November 14, 1992 a six-inch high blue and white porcelain statue of the Virgin Mary in Santiago, Chile began weeping tears of blood; mainly when children were around. The statue belonged to Olga Rodriguez, a housewife from the working class La Cisterna district in the south of Santiago. The liquid staining the image was later verified by scientists as human blood; type 0 Positive.

Thursday November 13th 2008 – 10:25am Gerald Yorke was a friend and disciple of Aleister Crowley and had amassed a vast collection of Crowley relics after the infamous occultist died in 1947. Julian Doyle, director of the recent Crowley-themed horror film Chemical Wedding, recently visited Yorke's son and even got to hold, er, Crowley's magick wand. 6:30am For the history buffs: Saint Augustine was born in a mountain village in Numidia (now Algeria) on this date in 354AD to a woman who was later canonized as St. Monica. Although he was raised a devout Christian he strayed from his early teachings and became a licentious youth, which included fathering an illegitimate child. He later returned to Christianity, became a priest and eventually became Bishop of Hippo which was located in present-day Annaba, Algeria, where he lived out the rest of his life. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers in Christian history and he produced some classic works, including his famous Confessions and The City of God. In the latter book, Augustine laid out a compelling interpretation of world history, arguing that there has always been and will always be two ‘cities’ struggling for dominance in the life of mankind. The entire book is based on an intriguing chiastic premise: “Two cities have been formed by two loves: the earthly city by the love of self, even to the contempt of God, and the heavenly city by the love of God, even to the contempt of self.” ………. And on this date in 1913 the last initiation of a new member occurred into Arthur Edward Waite’s Independent & Rectified Order, RR et AC. He was John T. P. Phythian-Adams, an archeologist from Liverpool, known now as Frater Damianus. Shortly thereafter Waite closed down the Rites due to ‘internal feuding,’ but a couple of years later it re-emerged as the Fellowship of the Rosy Cross, which abandoned the Golden Dawn tradition of magical training in favor of Christian mystical discussion. …….. and on November 13, 1963 Margaret Alice Murray died. She who wrote such classic books as The Witch-cult in Western Europe (1921), The God of the Witches (1933), The Divine King in England (1954).

Wednesday November 12th 2008 – 6:30am for the history buffs: Charles Manson was born on this date in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1934. He was once asked about the Great Beast in an interview in 1985. He replied, and I quote - “....I can tell you simply that Hinman was killed because of a bagpipe. It comes to music, a French whorehouse and the three numbers 666. Aleister Crowley from Ireland died in a French whorehouse. The French owed Scotland money in occult matters, spiritual world, or however you want to call it.” ... And there you have it, a mind is a terrible thing to waste!

Tuesday November 11th 2008 – 7:20am We get many individuals writing to us from around the world and throughout the United States asking to join Grady McMurtry's AA. But why do I bother to post stuff on our main website if people are going to ignore it? At the very bottom of our main Clerk House page it clearly states and I quote – (Click HERE) “WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM OUTSIDE OUR AREA. PLEASE DO NOT WRITE ASKING TO JOIN OR OBTAIN AFFILIATION WITH GRADY LOUIS McMURTRY'S AA, ALL INQURIES WILL BE IGNORED.” ... Unlike many AA lineages which accept 'everyone' and then give them to a Neophyte who cannot handle them, we bring in individuals ONLY when we have an available teacher [who always resides in our Lover grade, never below] who is dedicated to spend at least a year, one on one, with the individual. For all those who cannot actually join our lineage we publish as much info as we can on our website to offer you the ability to tap into the 93 Current. This is exactly why Crowley published so much info himself in The Equinox and in other places. If a person then does A + B they'll get C and 'success is your proof.'  You don't really need us.  But, if you have questions .... FEEL FREE TO WRITE US and remember, many of the people asking questions on this blog are NOT in the AA.

6:45am Frank wrote a long email last night, part of which he writes: "Yesterday's posting about A.'.A.'. seems to tow a hard line. Are you serious? How do you treat this sort of issue in your A.'.A.'. branch; would you really expell them? I'm just curious. I think our lineage would be a little more tolerant." ..... Reply: All lineages approach teaching differently. You must remember that in my lineage we have Clerk Houses to fulfill the man of Earth, or Malkuthian needs; your lineage has nothing. At best, you're encouraged to join the OTO. ... However, we have Clerk Houses and it is our belief that there is no law beyond do what thou wilt within this structure but if people from different Clerk Houses get together problems can arise and often we find students grilling each other on how their Clerk Houses differ. On some levels we do not tolerate this behavior and naturally, it would depend upon the motives of the people who are asking questions. Remember what Crowley wrote to Frater Achad - "I should lose no time in forming a group, but do it on your own personal responsibility and not as for the AA because the AA discourages group working, which is only another name for slackness and gossip, but by getting people together you may be able to stimulate one or two worthy persons to take up the cause." .... I agree with this 100% and like Crowley I too believe that groups are OK. We need, or dare I say, we require a Malkuthian or 'horizontal' foundation; which in the old AA use to be called the 'Golden Dawn School' which never really functioned well in the AA under Crowley. ... I personally adhere to the idea that we cannot simply give up this 'plane' and go hide in a cave. People in general are social creatures. Our GD school is called the Clerk House but we try to keep them in perspective. ... First; not everything that is learned in a student-teacher relationship within a Clerk House is secret and therefore open discussions are ok but when someone is told things 'confidentially' then these teachings are off limits. These types of teachings are more one on one, directed toward personal 'vertical movement' up the Tree and have no real place to be discussed openly to another Clerk House. We learn carefully how not to cross the planes – i.e. horizontal and vertical. ... If this clause is ignored then the teacher-student relationship falls apart and if the person trying to force another to reveal things learned under a confidential clause or if it is the person spilling the beans about what they learn in confidence; then either will be expelled. Trust and more important, one's WORD ... is everything in the AA

4:18am For the history buffs: oddly, this is one of those rare days where there is absolutely nothing of any worth to report happening. I have no birthdays, deaths, ghosts, or even UFO stories to tell my readers about.

Monday November 10th 2008 – 11:45am I heard some really ugly rumors about another A.'.A.'. lineage where some of its members were grilling a third person trying to get them to spill the beans on what their teacher was teaching them. They used the argument that there are no 'secrets' in the lower degrees and everything that a person learns can openly be discussed amongst themselves. How vial. What about student-teacher confidentiality? What gives these guys the right to think that they can pull head-trips on newer initiates in quest for information for their own personal gain? They forget that we tailor our teachings toward each student, male and female and it's hardly appropriate to have 'group' discussions on this matter; especially where the teacher is not involved. ... Boy, Luis Alvarado and I discussed the above incident today and we both agree; if these guys were in our lineage; they'd be written up and expelled in a heart beat. This type of bad behavior is prevalent in OTO circles where personal boundaries and Thelemic rights are often ignored simply because of the 'wants' of others but it has absolutely no place in A.'.A.'. and it should NOT be tolerated.

6:45am For the history buffs: Jacob Epstein was born on this date in 1880. He studied art in New York  (1896-1902) and then in Paris (1902-04). He moved to London in 1905 where he lived for the rest of his life. His early religious subjects, such as Genesis (1930), were viciously attacked as being both indecent and blasphemous. His busts of contemporary notables were done in a moderately modernist style. The English generally held him in higher regard than did his American critics. He also designed the burial tomb of Oscar Wilde which outraged many for its obvious and blatant display of a male organ on the naked figure. Inevitable a ‘plaque’ was placed over the offending part, hung in the fashion of a fig leaf. However, the plaque did not remain there long as some poets and artists raided the cemetery and removed it. Not long afterward the noted magician Aleister Crowley approached Epstein in the Cafe Royal with it dangling round his neck. Then, after taking the plaque off, Crowley presented it to Epstein as a gift. Epstein was knighted in 1954 and he died five years later on August 19, 1959. …..…. And it was on November 10, 1885 that Frederick Hockley a Rosicrucian seer died.  He was unable to see anything in his ‘crystal’ and appears he met with greater success when using others, like little girls, particularly one Emma Leigh who was thirteen when Hockley used her to act as his ‘seer.’

6:50am For the history buffs: People of New York were shocked on this date in 1874 as they read the New York Hearld headlines about animals escaping from the Central Park Zoo. The article told how animals had escaped from their cages and were rampaging throughout the city. It said that the police and even the national guard were reported to be battling the beasts, but already twenty-seven people were known dead and over 200 injured. It was “a bloody and fearful carnival.” It went on to warn the citizens of New York that many wild animals were still on the loose! Obviously many readers panicked and soon armed mobs swarmed into the streets with guns, ready to defend their homes. Of course, had people been less excitable and simply read the end of the article they would have realized that the entire story was a fabrication. It seems the author and editor simply wanted to use the scenario to draw attention to the dangerous conditions at the zoo and were rather surprised when their article provoked such an enormous reaction. This ‘hoax’ has come to be known in history as the Central Park Menagerie Scare of 1874. …….. and Baron Rudolf von Sebottendorf, whose real name was Adam Alfred Rudolf Glauer, was born on this date in Dresden, Germany in 1875. He was the founder of the Thule Society. By the late 20s he would lose controlling reign of the group to Anton Drexler. He would transfer the order over to Adolf Hitler in 1921 under the guise of ‘National Socialist Party’. On May 9, 1945 he committed suicide by jumping off a bridge into the river Bosporus. He was the man known to have provided an ideological basis to Nazism by combining the anti-Semitic activities prevalent in Germany with occultist ideas. His Thule Society slowly transformed from being a religious cult into that of an organization of political activists. ………. And on November 9, 1910 the rite of Sol is performed at Caxton Hall.  Later Crowley blamed the failure of this ritual on  “... too hasty preparation of the texts, not enough rehearsal, and his misguided belief that the public were gifted with reverence, intelligence, imagination and (the ability to interpret) the most obscure symbolism.”  …………. On this date in 1918 a letter was sent by the 11-year-old Frances Griffiths of Cottingly, England to a friend in South Africa. In this letter she causally wrote, “I am sending two photos, both of me, one of me in a bathing costume in our back yard, Uncle Arthur took that, while the other is me with some fairies up the beck, Elsie took that one.” The photographs that she referred where taken in the summer of 1917 which were to have far-reaching consequences. There were a total of five pictures which appeared to show small humans-like fairies with period style haircuts, dressed in filmy gowns, and with large wings on their backs and playfully dancing. The photographs of the ‘Cottingley Fairies’ were accepted as genuine by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Their authenticity would remain debatably for over sixty years, until the two cousins finally revealed the truth in 1981. Although they both claimed that they always saw fairies, they admitted that were unable to take pictures of them. That is when one of them drew the fairies from a book called Princess Mary's Gift Book by Arthur Shepperson and they simply photographed them. ………. And finally, the noted author Francis Xavier King died on this date in England in 1994. He has written such books as Ritual Magic in England, Techniques of High Magic, The Magical World of Aleister Crowley and Sexuality, Magic and Perversion. Of course, his infamy came in occult circles when he edited and released the now classic thorn titled The Secret Rituals of the O.T.O. (1974) which contained all the secret initiation rituals and many of the upper degree sexual Grade Papers of the Ordo Templi Orientis.

Saturday November 8th 2008 – 7:30am For the history buffs: Dr. Simon Read, a London physician evoked a ‘spirit’ on this date in 1607 in order to obtain information regarding the theft of cash from his friend Toby Matthew. When it was discovered that Read was doing such vile acts he was denounced and condemned but Read was later granted a ‘Royal Pardon’ by James I and thus avoided prison or even worse. …….. and also, on November 8, 1674 John Milton died at the age of 65.  He was educated at Christ’s College, Cambridge, where students referred to him as “The Lady” supposedly because of his delicate features.  He went on to become the most famous poet and essayist of his time and one of the giants in literary history.  Suffering from poor vision from childhood, Milton became blind in middle age, and wrote his greatest works with the help of a secretary. While actively involved in the major political and religious controversies of his day, he is best remembered as the author of Paradise Lost (1667), which is considered the greatest epic poem in the English language. The work contains some remarkable psychological insights, and some of the most famous chiastic passages in poetic history, like: “The mind is its own place, and in itself, Can make a Heav’n of Hell, a Hell of Heav’n.” ……… and to continue, Abraham Stoker was born on this date in Dublin Ireland in 1847 but everyone most likely remembers him as Bram Stoker the author of Dracula. He is rumored to have been a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn although it is more likely he merely attended the ‘Sette of Odd Volumes’ with J. W. Brodie-Innes which was a group of people who sat around and did little more than ‘discuss’ occult topics. ……… and also of interest, the last victim of Jack the Ripper, Mary Kelly is found murdered in Whitechapel in her own apartment on this date in 1888. The body lay on the bed, the flesh from her legs, thighs, breast & nose was neatly cut off and placed on the table ... many other parts of her body were never found. …….. and I should also point out that on November 8, 1898 in Kennsington, Minnesota, a farmer named Olaf Ohman, along with several of his sons, and other men from neighboring farms were clearing lumber and pulling stumps in a field in preparation for plowing. One particular stump caused everyone considerable difficulty and when it was finally uproot it was discovered that entwined in the roots was a huge roughly rectangular 200 pound slab of graywacke. The stone was found face down in the soil, about six inches below ground level and when it was hauled out it was discovered that it was covered in runes. When the runes on the face were translated historians were shocked to read: “Eight Goths and 22 Norwegians on a journey of exploration from Vinland very far west. We had camp by 2 rocky islands one day's journey north from this stone. We were out fishing one day. After we came home we found 10 men red with blood and dead. AVM save from evil.” Along the edge of the stone where runes that read, “Have 10 men by the sea to look after our ships 14 days' journey from this island. Year 1362.” The inscription, if it is genuine, would be one of the longest ancient runic inscriptions found in the world. The ‘Kennsington Runestone’, as it has come to be called, is certainly one of the most controversial finds since it implies that Viking explorers were able to penetrate nearly halfway across North America. ………. And finally, on November 8, 1969 the pilot for Rod Serling’s Night Gallery debuts on TV. The actual series ran from 1971 to 1973. Each episode would begin with Rod Serling entering an eerie art gallery filled with a fanciful array of strange paintings where he would begin introducing a trilogy of tales each with a bizarre twist. The first episode began, “Good evening, and welcome to a private showing of three paintings, displayed here for the first time. Each is a collector’s item in its own way, not because of any special artistic quality, but because each captures on a canvas, suspends in time and space, a frozen moment of a nightmare. Our initial offering: a small gothic item in blacks and grays. A piece of the past known as the family crypt. This one we call simply, The Cemetery ... Offered to you now, six feet of earth and all that it contains. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Night Gallery.”

Friday November 7th 2008 – 9:20am Mary sent an email wherein she asks a good question: "You have made mention of the old practice of 'sleeping' with an upper degree of OTO makes the woman an upper degree automatically. I have been thinking about this, is it true in the case for all uppers from VIIth to IXth?  How does this actually work? Do you want to sleep with me? Hee Hee" ...... Reply: Well, I'm not going to Alaska, where you live, especially now that Palin the Moose hunter is back in your state. Anyway, I cannot give you specifics of how it works but in brief: VIIth Degree is that of Chastity, need I say more? No practicing magickal women required here, therefore no one can claim the degree. ... VIIIth is referred to simply as a degree of 'masturbation' by shallow minds but most do not realize that this degree primarily deals with taking the 'focus' learned in VIIth and manifesting it for a desired result. Woman are not needed but can be used, in a secret way and if so, in theory, they can claim the degree. Grady McMurtry explained how this possible and it makes complete logical sense. However, in the past history of the OTO, there have been almost no VIIIths so there has never been an issue of a woman coming forward to claim the degree ... In the case of IXth degree, this implies 'Sexual Union' of both male and female and by its nature it requires both parties in a symbiotic relationship. ... In all cases, if you work with a female magickally you can either keep them in the dark about the working or you can explain it; in the case of the latter they'd know the Secret and for this reason they can assume the degree. ... but if you keep them in the dark they can’t claim what they don’t know!

6:40am For the history buffs: Palmer Thomas joined the Order of The Golden Dawn on this date in 1896.  He was the man who persuaded A.E.Waite to rejoin the order stating that he  “... was missing experiences he would value and of which he could not have known when he resigned.” ……… and on November 7, 1903 the official Constitution under A. E. Waite, W. A. Ayton and M. W. Blackden of the Independent & Rectified Order R.R. et A.C. along with its new outer order of the Morgen Rothe  (German for ‘Golden Dawn’)  are signed.  In their first year this Golden Dawn schism grew from 14 to 22 inner order members and many of them survived for ten years or so together.  Leading members included Algernon Blackwood, Arthur Machen, Julien Baker & the famous Soror Shemeber (Mrs.Pamela Bullock) who was appointed ‘Burser’ of the Order. ………. And to continue with today’s flavor, at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana experienced a series of strange encounters with UFOs on this date in 1975. Strategic Air Command teams reported visual sightings of the object, but when F-106s were dispatched, the objects would turn off their lights and be all but invisible. Then, when the F-106s left the area, the objects would turn back on their lights. This type of activity had been reported in the Malmstrom area for several days.

Thursday November 6th 2008 – 10:55am Kath wrote a long email yesterday, part of which has a few good questions: "I agree with you that woman think differently, we have hormones and emotions which you blokes don’t have and that we should be trained differently but why don’t you let some of your AA female initiates have a go at describing what is occurring within them and how they see the world. I’d love to hear from some of them. Do any of them have their own websites or the what?” ...... Reply: I've been thinking about how to answer your email and I thought I'd just post something I have written to another person, it answers you questions, or so I think. I wrote: "We don’t take many women into the AA simply due to attitude problems ... You’d be amazed by how many women cannot talk about sex, their bodies or even their fantasies which are the very nature of the ‘shell’ that they chose to incarnate into. They forget that ‘Know Thyself’ starts on Malkuth and Malkuth is merely your body. Sadly, with blockages on Malkuth, women often rise no further. Men are just as bad, if not worse. Men often turn into giddy school boys with dirty minds when talking about sex … but both men and woman often forget that talking about sex magick is NOT a way to get laid but if they’re coming out of the OTO they’re often tainted by this apparent bad behavior. ... Sex magick is trying to learn about our libido which is a term that has acquired overt sexual implications over time but in truth it stands more so for all psychic energy which is our most powerful human drive. It is Kundalini. Magicians and even the Tantras teach that this energy is rooted in our sexual drive on the lowest animalistic level." ... in other words, we have few women in our AA and sadly, in other AA lineages, their women are being trained by a male dominated curriculum. As I see it; too many people have 'hang-ups' when talking about sex and if they are not embarrassed to talk about it, they're getting aroused and wanting to get laid, I wish this wasn't the case but sadly it is. I've watched many a good women in my 27 years in the OTO being totally disgusted and turned away from magick by men who pray on them as if they were meat. Men often forget, there is no shame in being aroused, just in what you do with it.

9:15am Ok, thank you Mr. Anonymous for pointing out the obvious. Yes, I’ve written that the main obligation of the man of Earth grade is “the law is for All” (AL I:34) which implies that our AA should take on everyone but the verse, as I read it, doesn’t say that “the AA must accept every person who applies.” It says that everyone inside and outside of our Order is entitled to the Law. That is all. Those whom we accept into our MoE degree are obligated not only to live Thelemically but fulfill certain obligations and training. Don’t confuse apples with oranges.

8:45am I thought I’d post this thought to address a recent question and offer advice to anyone thinking that they want to join Grady McMurtry’s AA. Our rule of thumb is to ‘reject first, ask questions later’ … this implies that when we receive a letter we automatically say “no” in our head and then read and review what he or she sent as if we were reading an application submitted by a person wanting to apply at Yale, Harvard or any College. Are we not a College? Yes and I will not lower our standards to a city run Community School. In truth we don’t judge individuals by their past action or how smart they are but we do look for a ‘spark’ which implies that the person is ‘already’ moving off Malkuth and can thus understand the teachings of a 'vertical' school. When we do take on students we live by what Aleister Crowley wrote to Grady - “Trust not a stranger: fail not of an heir.” In other words, every individual whom a Clerk House takes on as a student is judged in that light … and granted, The Book of the Law does say “Yet there are masked ones my servants: it may be that yonder beggar is a King. (II:58) but sometimes a beggar is just a beggar. I would much rather have a handful of “building blocks”, as Grady often called AA students, who are willing to work for the sake of the Aeon rather than a hundred who are simply 'horizontal' movers trying to get their act together on Malkuth and who think that we can help them.

5:40am Mary writes, "I never heard about this IXth Degree clause that you mentioned yesterday. I can sleep with an upper and become one? Is it one of those OTO secrets that are incommunicable.”  [see yesterday's 4:00pm posting] ... Reply: In modern OTO since Frater Hymenaeus Beta took over in 1985, this practice is no longer acknowledged. In theory, if an Upper Degree 'practices' what he's learned then he requires a suitable vehicle but such a vehicle must be his equal even if she's a prostitute, an idiot or some girl he picked up in a bar or after the Mass. However, if he picks up a woman and sleeps with her is she really a sacred vehicle or just a lay? Ah, the Catch 22 ... how can she determine which is which? Or the better question yet, how does he? To alleviate this 'dilemma' modern OTO no longer practices this rule of thumb of making the woman an upper degree if a IXth sleeps with her. 

5:10am For the history buffs: On this date in 1957 in  Merom, Indiana, Rene Gilham, 33, saw a brightly luminous UFO hovering overhead which he estimated its size as 40 feet in diameter, and its altitude as 1000 feet. The next day, after starring up at the UFO, Gilham's face began to itch and redden and that night the "sunburn" was so painful that he was forced to go to the doctors. 4:00pm To answer a confidential question regarding women's magick: I’d suggest reading today’s blog, my 6:00am posting where I try to point out that your Tree is different than mine. We know that men view or learn their internal Tree downward, from top to bottom, because the Left Hand Pillar of which we naturally function is a descending current according to the Formula ON. We unconsciously write and think all Qabalistic and magickal theory from Kether down to Hadit, or Earth in order to fulfill our functions. What this means is that men cannot be taught sex magick because that would imply a ‘conscious’ effort from a Malkuthian point-of-view to learn something. … Why do you think OTO Initiations begin in Chokmah and with each new initiation the candidate descends the Tree? It’s because the initiations are designed for a phallic cult! Another clue is mentioned in the First Degree of OTO where the candidate is taught that “the real Secrets are incommunicable.” In other words, men must ‘know’ IT already and if they know IT they are IXth Degrees and can practice IT. … Now consider what Crowley wrote - “Hadit possesses the power to know, Nuit that of being known.” (this quote from Commentaries to The Book of the Law] According to all Qabalistic teachings men are the ‘Knowers.’ … However, most guys are incapable of standing still long enough to reflect inward in order to discover the real Secrets and they think that scoffing up every OTO sex magick document, piece of paper or being taught by me will enable them to know the Secrets. Silly Rabbits. … Woman, on the other hand, need to reverse this formula and view the Tree upward toward Nuit. This is because you natural work the Right Hand Pillar of Ascending Influence in the Formula ON. According to Qabalah you are the ‘Known’, or in an OTO sense the ‘Vehicle.’ Women usually get upset when we used this term in OTO because they believe it implies a subservient role to the man. They forget that it is the Scarlet Woman who acts as the vehicle or ‘Channel’ from which All Power descends. It is hardly subservient. But, for you to ‘Know Thyself’ or your female anatomy from a Qabalistic point-of-view you must ascend the Tree starting at Malkuth to Kether; not the other way around. … Why do you think a Minerval woman in the OTO, if they sleep with an Upper Degree, becomes an Upper Degree automatically while disregarding all the rest of initiations as no longer being needed? … Sadly, although we know this about the female formula, we have few women who really want to learn what it implies … and rather than argue with them, as I use to do with my ex all the time, it is usually best to stop teaching them and simply blindly use them as ‘vehicles’ while perfecting the old cliché “yes dear.” … Of note: see Magick in Theory & Practice Chapt. 5:30am For the history buffs: Captain John Cleves Symmes was born on this date in Sussex County, New Jersey in 1779. He was a unique philosopher who originated the “Symmes Theory of Concentric Spheres and Polar Voids” which stated that the earth was hollow, habitable and is composed of five hollow, concentric spheres, with space between each, and habitable upon both convex and concave surfaces. At the North Pole, he supposed there was an opening four thousand miles in diameter; and at the South, six thousand miles. In 1823 Symmes petitioned Congress to send an exploring expedition to test his theory and he actually got twenty-five affirmative votes. Symmes’ theory spawned a number of books including novels. The first was Symzonia (1820) by Captain Adam Seaborn. Edgar Allen Poe’s two stories, MS Found in a Bottle (1833) and Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, both owe something to Symmes. The theory had its loyal adherents right up until William Peary’s reported discovery of the North Pole. ………. Outside my apartment I can hear screaming, car horns blaring and people yelling as hundreds of people are celebrating! It’s going to be a long night. I’ve never seen Telegraph Avenue so wild! Our first black President of the US has been elected! America is changing and it desperately needs change.

In a similiar article, "Kogelo Witchdoctor Predicts Obama Win!" it details how Barack Obama's extended family in Kenya prays for his win and the "witch doctor says his divining bones tell him Barack Obama will be the next U.S. president." ..... Ah, to break the tie between the witch doctor and Nostradamus I flipped a coin, heads McCain wins and tails the other guy ... and I watched as it landed on its side ... I think it means that we here in America are screwed no matter who wins! But who cares? 2012 is just around the corner!

5:15am For the history buffs: In 1891 a young Englishman named Howard Carter arrived in Egypt convinced that there was at least one undiscovered tomb, that of the almost unknown King named Tutankhamen. Carter found a backer for his quest in the wealthy Lord Carnarvon. On November 4, 1922 Carter’s workmen discovered a step cut into the rock that had been hidden by debris left over from the building of the tomb of Ramesses IV and digging further they discovered stairs that lead to an ancient doorway that appeared to be still sealed. On the doorway was the name Tutankhamen. That evening, when Carter arrived home, his servant, wide eyed with fear, met him at the door. In his hand was a few yellow feathers. He proceeded to tell Carter that his pet canary had been killed by a cobra. Carter, looking at the feathers, simply asked if the snake was out of the house but his servant replied by grabbing his sleeve and saying, “The pharaoh’s serpent ate the bird because it led us to the hidden tomb! You must not disturb the tomb!” After the tomb was opened, a few months later, Lord Carnarvon, 57, was taken ill and rushed to Cairo. He died a few days later. The exact cause of death has never been determined but it seemed to be from an infection started by an insect bite. Legend has it that when he died there was a power failure and all the lights throughout Cairo went out and, at the same moment back on his private estate back in England, his favorite dog howled and dropped dead. Even more strange, when the mummy of Tutankhamen was finally unwrapped in 1925, it was found to have a wound on the left cheek. A wound which was in the same exact position as the insect bite on Carnarvon that lead to his death. All in all, by 1935 twenty-one people who were connected, or indirectly connected, with the discovery of the Tomb had all died of unnatural causes. The press followed each death carefully; attributing them to the “Mummy’s Curse.” Still, Howard Carter, who had actually discovered the tomb, lived to a reasonably old age of 66 before dying of entirely natural causes.

6:50pm Paul from Oakland writes, "93 Jerry, You are the only person left who got the upper degree phallic teachings from Grady who was given more personal instruction from AC than anyone else in this area. The powers that be governing the OTO rejected your offer to give them the teachings Grady passed on to you. Most of the OTO members who've joined since the 1985 election don't have any idea what the Order used to be like. There is also no encouragement to study the history of the Order and source texts of Thelema but rather a tendency to sup from the teat of authority and bleat like sheep without intelligence or reflection. Its like driving a car you no longer know how to fix, it's fine until something breaks but without the mechanical know how you are left with a lemon. Women's mysteries are great, I love Mary Daly, Camille Paglia and Starhawk as much as the next girl, but we don't want to mix apples and oranges, I mean dogs and cats. As male and female we are working with different polarities on different planes and without a clear understanding of the differences between things become muddled. The OTO is founded in the masculine mystery of the Lingam, the feminine mysteries on the Yoni/Kteis. You can't find the feminine mysteries in a phallic order. Can a Wiccan group based on the mysteries of woman still remain true to its roots if it has to deal with the male members demanding equal time for the phallus? We have Nuit and Hadit their interplay is the lila of the universe. If the polarities are grounded out and debased by the illusion of equality between the sexes there can be no transformation. It is through the exaltation of opposites and their integration on a higher plane that we come to a higher synthesis. Is Kathleen actually a member of the OTO? Has she looked into the Order's history while under Crowley or read  Grady's biography? When will people learn that you aren't talking out of your ass and realize the legacy and history that you alone carry regarding the OTO as it was and the phallic current as taught by AC and Grady? But to me, the OTO today is oblivious of its phallic Mysteries which is annoying. Not one upper degree has ever been taught its phallic secrets. That is a fact. Remember, Grady McMurtry created what was termed ‘Provisional’ IXth Degree members of the Ordo Templi Orientis. He would later try to explain this conditional degree and, in reminiscence of his war days, he stated, “The IXth Degree members so created are Provisional: that is to say, these IXth Degree promotions are in the nature of Battle Field Promotions.” These ‘promotions’ were not filled with magickal training regarding the Ninth Degree secret but were created for political reasons to help legally establish the required number of inner core members to show the courts in California that the OTO was more than just Grady. In fact, all of these people were actually only Fourths, or Fifths, and a few were even lower initiates when Grady died. After Grady's death these 'Provisionals' became full IXth so that they could vote for his successor but the question is, "Who taught them the OTO phallic Mysteries?" We know the only IXths at the time of Grady's death were women; Phyllis Seckler and Helen Parsons Smith; both of who, as Phyllis would later admit, did not know how the male role worked. ... So what do we expect of the modern OTO? It can't teach what it doesn't know and men, who usually have an ego out their ying-yang, will never admit that they don't know the Secrets any more than if they were lost, they'd ask for directions.

9:40am Wow, I just got word that the OTO is holding special weekend gathering in Sacramento, California this month celebrating ‘MYSTICS, MOTHERS AND MAGICIANS’ or ‘Women & Goddesses of O.T.O.’ which I might add is a very laughable thought at best since I read its itinerary and I know what this implies. This is another classic example of the degradation into mud of a once noble phallic Fraternity. We NEVER see the men of OTO holding 'male' seminars. I guess they’re too pussy-whipped to speak; they’d rather keep their phallic Mysteries flaccid and in need of Vigara! Now don’t get me wrong; if the Order ‘sponsored’ a Woman's Mysteries gathering it would be fine from an intellectual point-of-view but reviewing their pamphlet implies that once again the OTO is not the same OTO as Aleister Crowley had envisioned. This is because the OTO is allowing woman to incorporate outside views of the Goddess into their teachings, making the phallus subservient, rather than the Order teaching the proper women's role as taught by Crowley in the Gnostic Mass and as dictated by upper degree Grade Papers, instead - the Phallus is limp, long live the Goddess! … Still, I guess its OK to look at outside teachings, which might appeal to some women but to me it only proves what we’ve known for years about the OTO; it has lost its Mysteries. We joked in the mid-1990s that it was becoming a little boys club … but now I wish to add, “Does anyone want to buy Girl Scout cookies, they’re selling them after the Mass.” 

6:30am Conventional wisdom might pick Obama as the next U.S. President but some are believing that Nostradamus, four and a half centuries ago, picked John McCain. Dr. Hubert Evans, professor of Renaissance Studies at Yale University and author of the best-selling Nostradamus: Prophesize This!, has stated "Quatrain 78, Century X in particular seems to indicate that Obama had better not be measuring the White House windows for curtains quite yet, at least by my interpretation."  Quatrain 78 was originally published in 1555 in Nostradamus' still-popular Les Prophecies and is believed to be about the feeble McCain and his 'Queen' or vice-President Sarah Pelin with her $150,000 wardrobe; it reads:

At the war's end:

The Feeble Kept One will strike down the Night

And his Imbecile Queen will rise from the snow

Bedecked in finery and the pelt of a wolf.

5:30am For the history buffs: Ignatius Donnelly was born in Philadelphia on this date in 1831. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and practiced briefly in Philadelphia until he went to Minnesota in 1857. Here, Donnelly was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1859, and again in 1861. He was later elected to Congress as a Republican, serving from December 7, 1863, till March 3, 1869. Besides doing journalistic work he has written an Essay on the Sonnets of Shakespeare and, for which he is most known, a book titled Atlantis, the Antediluvian World (1882), in which he attempts to demonstrate that there once existed in the Atlantic Ocean, opposite the straits of Gibraltar, a large island, known to the ancients as Atlantis. His next book titled Ragnarok (1883) he tried to prove that the deposits of clay, gravel, and decomposed rocks, characteristic of the drift age, were the result of contact between the earth and a comet. Donnelly died in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 1, 1901 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul, Minnesota. …….. and Franklin Jones was born on this date in 1939. He would become a follow..er for a while of Swami Mukananda, who gave him the name ‘Dhyanananda’ which means “he whose bliss comes through meditation.” Muktananda authorized him to teach then, but Da did not do so because he felt that his enlightenment was incomplete. Da’s enlightenment took place in the Vedanta Society temple in Los Angeles in September 1970. It was only several years later that he changed his name to Bubba Free John and then to Da Free John. He died in 2003. ……… and finally, on November 3, 1957 Dr. Wilhelm Reich died in prison at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Many of his experiments were designed to ascertain whether sexual excitement was associated with an increase of bio-electric charges in the genitals & erogenous zones.  He believed this to be true.

Sunday November 2nd 2008 – 6:55am For the history buffs: ‘Buck’ Whaley, of the Hellfire Club, died on this date in 1800. His father was another notorious member whose antic, after performing a Black Mass at  Mountpelier House, cost the building to be burned down, killing many a member who was too drunk after the evening’s revelries to escape. It was said that local people watched the blazing pyre convinced that God had taken revenge. Whaley’s son, Thomas ‘Buck’ Whaley was to become, in his short life, far more famous and flamboyant than his father. He rallied the Hell-Fire club from the low ebb to which it had sunk after the fire by openly declaring his intention of ‘defying God and man in nightly revels.’ Black Masses and homosexual orgies were the principal features of his nightly debaucheries. However, years later, repentance and remorse began to enter into his mind and so he resolved to seek absolution for his sins. It is said that while kneeling in the darkened nave in St Audoen’s Church he had a vision of the Devil creeping down the aisle towards him. Seized with terror, Whaley ran from the church and fled Ireland forever. He lived a few more years but finally died at the age of 34 of sclerosis of the liver. In his memoirs, a repentant ‘Buck’ Whaley wrote that he felt “no trifling sensation from the prospect that this simple narrative may persuade the young and inexperienced, if the language of truth has the power of persuasion, that a life of dissipation can produce no enjoyment, and that tumultuous pleasures afford no real happiness.” …….... also, on November 2, 1910 “... amid choking clouds of incense, varied by barbaric dances, sensational interludes of melodrama, blasphemy and erotic suggestion” the Rite of Mars of Eleusis is performed at Caxton Hall by Aleister Crowley & Co. …..….. and one of my favorite entries found in Aleister Crowley’s unpublished diaries is on November 2, 1931. It simply states “... He gave us lots of bad cognac. We went crazy. Instantly. We got home I got down on S.W. She pissed gallons -- we tore off our clothes & fucked & fucked & fucked. She tore my lips & my tongue - the blood streamed all over her face. We fucked. And suddenly she got a jealous fit about 3 cheap whores at Brunnigs & I strangled her …”  Isn’t love grand? SW, of course, means his Scarlet Woman.

Saturday November 1st 2008 All Saints Day – 6:30am For the history buffs: William John Warner was born on this date in Dublin, Ireland in 1866. The world knows him as Cheiro. He also went by the name Count Louis Hamon, claiming a noble ancestry that may or may not have been accurate. He is most likely the world’s greatest palmist. Cheiro was also a friend of the magician Aleister Crowley and even joined his AA in 1913, the same day as Nina Hamnett and Gwedoline Otter. Cheiro died on October 8, 1936, in Hollywood, CA, at the age of 69.
