Wednesday December 31st 2008 – 6:40am Mary asked a good question in her email yesterday. She writes, "Alot of the information that you write about regarding student's obligations within the middle Order I can not find in Crowley's writings. Where is it from? I am curious." ...... Reply: In truth, Crowley brought no students up into the middle degrees which would have forced him to sit down and write about these degrees in fair detail. What he has left us with is primarily an ‘over-all’ view of the AA system, of each Grade’s obligation and requirements etc but his writings lack a one-on-one in-depth personal interpretation about each Grade on the Tree of Life and how it functions. It is no secret that Crowley was great for laying out an ‘outer’ to-do list in order for a student to get results but when it came to interpreting the initiatory process on the Tree; he was deficient; his writings are more ‘mystical’ than ‘practical’. ... Still, we can not fully fault him for not explaining the inner magickal process from a personal level. We have to look at the world through his Libra eyes and try to understand where magick was then, not now. In our day and age we have made remarkable strides in understanding the human psyche. We also have an amazing amount of literature on psychology, also on Kundalini yoga from Carl Jung and his student's perspective, plus newer writings on magick and other important research subjects at our finger tips, which he didn’t have. We cannot sit still and ignore all these advances that society has made when trying to understand itself in the last hundred years but instead, we must continually look at these achievements and ask ourselves how they relate to our own magickal system based in New Aeonic principles laid out in Liber AL vel Legis. This is not hard to do. Still, I would recommend any of my readers to pick up a copy of Paul Foster Case’s brilliant volume titled The True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order. This book goes in-depth into each Magickal Grade sphere by sphere from a Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn perspective on the Tree. It’s a good starting point.

6:30am For the history buffs: The Honourable Colonel Thomas Sydney lived at Old Hall, Ranworth, Norfolk, England and it was said that he was a hard-drinking, roisterous huntsman who did not enjoy losing bets. On this date in 1770, being the biggest hunting meet of the season, he challenged a neighbor to a race. Half way through the race, and discovering that he was obviously going to lose, Sydney pulled out his pistol and shot his opponent’s horse which caused the rider to be thrown, breaking his neck and killing him instantly. Since no gun was ever found, no charges were filed but everyone knew who fired the shot and even more damaging to Sydney was that he supposedly disappeared shortly afterwards. That is when the legends began; telling stories of how later that very evening after the race, while Sydney was sitting down at the table for dinner, a tall, thin stranger appeared and at the Old Hall, dragged him outside to a waiting horse, threw him across his saddle and galloped off into the darkness. Now, according to the same legend, every year on the 31st of December, the same scene is repeated as the “ghostly stranger” rides upon Old Hall. .......... also, George Sylvester Viereck was born in Munich Germany on this date in 1884. His family emigrated to New York in 1896. He was the author of many books; Nineveh and Other Poems (1907), Confessions of a Barbarian (1910), The Candle and the Flame (1912), Glimpses of the Great (1930), My Flesh and Blood (1931), The Kaiser on Trial (1937) and The Temptation of Jonathan (1938), to name but a few. In 1912 Viereck established The International, a monthly literary magazine of the avant garde, as well as conventional, poets and writers. Its office was located at 1123 Broadway in New York City. At the outset of World War I, in August of 1914, Viereck launched a new publication called The Fatherland. The goal of this weekly magazine was to publicize the German point of view in order to counteract the onslaught of propaganda coming out of England and France. Most important, it was trying to promote the idea of American neutrality. Aleister Crowley met Viereck in 1911. He would later work for him at The International and The Fatherland.  It also appears that Viereck knew all about Crowley’s “devil worship” but it didn’t bother him. As he put it, “I knew nothing against him. I do not object to devil worship and I think that a man’s personal life is his own. Hence, any rumors against him which may have reached me had no effect.” In Crowley’s 1936 diaries there is a brief entry on Thursday July 30th, “George Sylvester Viereck to lunch. Saturnus, Rudy, & girl Pat. Viereck will sign affidavit that I had no trouble with authorities in U.S.A. He said also that after [the] war he made friends with our N.I. chiefs, who told him that I had been working for them during the War.” Saturnus is Karl Germer. Viereck died at the age of 77 on March 18, 1962 as a result of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. ............ and it was on December 31, 1896 that Aleister Crowley claims that he officially decided to pursue mysticism and occultism. ............... and finally, on December 31, 1922 Rudolf Steiner’s first Goetheanum in Switzerland was burned down by a Nazi arsonist. Goetheanum was an extraordinary wooden building which had gradually been built during the first World War by an international group of volunteers. They all collaborated with local builders and artisans to shape the unique carved forms and structures designed by Steiner himself. It was not Steiner’s intention, however, to build an impressive monument; he thought of architecture as the servant of human life and designed the Goetheanum to support the work of anthroposophy, especially drama and eurythmy. Rudolf Steiner designed a second building, which was completed after his death

Tuesday December 30th 2008 – 7:30am Jay writes, "93 Jerry, good discussion. Of the daimon you said that if one has filled it with vile and hateful things then it will seek accordingly after its person has died. Certainly the opposite must be true, that if one 'programs' its daimon with love and the Great Work then it would seek energy of that like. Could this be said to be, at least in part, the basis for the idea of the so called True and Invisible Order (in which we most valiantly participate)? That is, in seeking to do the Great Work, one has allied oneself with the daimons, the energy, of those in the past who have also done so?" ........ Reply: Yes. On the lower Tree of Asiah (matter) it can be said that the spiritual resides above the Abyss while everything heavier, gross and contemptible is like a thick fog that moves across the Malkuth and rises not. The True Invisible Order has two primary lower stages; the lowest having its roots sowed deep into Earth, otherwise without ‘paths’ how does the worthy aspire? The distinct difference between the lowest man of Earth grade (Golden Dawn), and the Lover Grade (Rosicrucian) and the higher grade of the Hermit (Silver Star) is that the lower two are bathed in 'duality' and by their very existence below the Abyss they create a shadow. Keeping the lower Order’s shadow uncontaminated so that students can aspire ‘vertically’ is a daunting task for those in charge and one which all Lovers need to constantly be on their guard about. Too many subordinate Orders of the True Invisible Order utterly destroy themselves because they inevitable bring in a wannabe whose shadow infects the whole. Orders created within the Lover grade should never be so pretentious to think themselves incorruptible. The pull of Malkuth (horizontal) is still strong, the flesh weak and it is easier to deceive yourself that you are doing your 'True Will' when in fact you are pursuing 'Wants' at every turn. .... Ah, but read The Book of Ecclesiastes Chapter Three - "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"  ... Nothing is a SIN. A secret of the True and Invisible Order is how to take your fill of Life's experience while keeping the shadow bright.

6:30am For the history buffs: Simon Forman was born on this date at Qusdham, a small village near Wilton, Wiltshire in 1552. He was an Elizabethan astrology, necromancer and ‘alternative’ medical practitioner in London. Many considered him a quack physician and surgeon, who often spent time in jail for occult practices and prescribing dangerous potions. All this being said, the London people held him in high regard, mainly because he bravely stayed in London during a plague outbreak, and supposedly even cured himself and others of the disease. The extensive records of his life, including his many occult experiments are held in the Bodleian Library in Oxford. Oddly, he prophesied his own death the week before it occurred, or so his wife claimed. On the day of his death, a Thursday September 8, 1611, he keeled over in his boat whilst crossing the Thames saying, “Am impost, an impost” before dying. His death was also documented by another astrologer of that time, William Lilly. It seems Simon Forman had also accurately predicted through the use of astrology the exact moment of his own death and on that ill fated day while rowing down the Thames he fell dead at the oars. ............. also of note; Austin Osman Spare was born on this date in London in 1886. His father was a policeman who often worked the night shift and even though money was in short supply, when the young Spare began to show an unusual propensity for drawing and art, they managed to find enough funds to send him to art school. At the age of seven Spare was befriended by a mysterious old women, a sorceress by the name of Mrs. Patterson, whom it was said could change her appearance from that of an old women to that of a young temptress at will. Spare would later refer to this woman as his second mother, his ‘Witch-mother.’ She taught him how to visualize and evoke spirits and elementals to reify his dream imagery and initiated him into witchcraft during a sabbat meeting and gave him his craft name called ‘Zos.’ He took the oath of a Probationer in Aleister Crowley’s AA in 1909, assuming the magical name “YIHOVEAUM” (‘I AM-Aum’). Crowley came to believe that Spare had become a “Black Brother because of his cultivation of self-love through pleasure.” In the 1950s Spare began working on a definitive Grimoire called the Zos Kia Cultus, which was to contain the accumulation of his magical secrets. Austin Osman Spare died in a hospital in London at the age of 67 on May 15, 1956, his Grimoire left unfinished. ............ and finally, on this date in 1947 Major General L. C. Craigie, Director of Research and Development in the USAF, issued an order establishing Project Sign which was the first official organization to investigate UFOs. It’s purpose was to “collect, collate, evaluate and distribute to interested government agencies and contractors all information concerning sightings and phenomena in the atmosphere which can be construed to be of concern to the national security.”

Monday December 29th 2008 – 10:05am Regarding the Qliphoth; it is one of those ‘concepts’ that has evolved and been totally distorted over the last hundred years so that, in some ways, it is unrecognizable to the original. We have to thank many of the followers of The Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn for fostering most of the misconceptions which has lead some modern writers, who see shadows, want to go off to fight windmills. Qabalistically; in The Book of Genesis Chapter I:3-5, the word ‘Light’ refers to the four Qabalistic World. The first: ‘And God said, Let there be light, and there was light” (I:3) the ancient Qabalists attributed as a reference to the highest World of Atziloth. The second: “And God saw the light, that it was good” (I:4) is attributed to Briah. The third: “and God divided the light from the darkness” (I:4) refers to the World of Yetzirah which is where, according to the Qabalah, God divided the good Angels from the bad. And finally, the fourth reference to Light in Genesis is: “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night” (I:5); which Qabalists attribute to the world of Asiah, or matter. In ancient times all ‘matter’ was considered to be the realm of Shells, or the Qliphoth, not just the back-side of the Tree of Life. ... A shell was something that simply ‘encases’ something ... and since matter lies below the Abyss; it is bathed in the duality of Light and Darkness. Thus we have an 'internal' and 'external' Shell. The daimon is our internal, the external was believed to be the grossest of matter which encases our Spirit and makes us easily deceived from God by mundane wants, lust and pleasures. Hence the early Christian view that our bodies are evil and the daimon is evil ...

9:30am To answer a question: Yes, the Shadow of Adam’s first wife Lilith is one of the first great succubi in history but a little known fact is that she was one of ‘four’ mates who surrounded themselves around the great demon Samael. The other three are Naamah, Agrat Bat Mahlat and Eisheth Zenumin; they are also known as the “Four Sacred Prostitutes.” These women unite or merge with Samael under a single name – “Ha-yoh” which then refers to them all, including Samael, as "The Beast" (Qabbalah, The Philosophical Writings of Avicebron by Issac Myer 1972, pg.331) which, then according to the Qabalah, makes Samael (Satan) “the Great Androgene of God.” ... Sounds like Baphomet, no?

7:55am Mary sent a tome, part of which she asks - “You seem to quote ancient theory when convenient while ignoring parts that don’t fit your views. At times I find contradiction in what you write.” ..... Reply: First, everything below the Abyss is bathed in contradictions. A good magician can argue any point-of-view from its opposite. Still, since I’m a magician I attempt to act as a scientist who looks at data and formulates a postulant. If I thought all the ‘ancients’ were 100% correct with what they wrote then there would be no reason for me to continue. I would simply read ‘old’ books and leave it at that. However, I believe that how the ancients thought was perfect for the evolution of the Spirit ‘then’, as is my belief ‘now.’ ... Thus, as a magician, I study the ‘unfoldment’ of Self throughout the ages while using the postulant that A+B=C. ... The past being A, the present is B and then I formulate what C or the future might hold for us. We can also not deny the fact that a ‘new’ astrological current (Aquarius) is bathing our world and unconsciously moving mankind forward which throws a completely new monkey wrench into the picture. ... Are you aware of the story how the Director of the U. S. Patent Office sent in his resignation in 1875 citing that there was nothing left to invent? He forgot, humanity sits still for no one.

7:45am I was asked if there is an actual 'Qabalistic; term for the Shadow that I mentioned in yesterday's blog at 10:40am. To reply; yes there is. It is referred to as a 'Shell.' Within western magick we're taught that everything that has ever been thought or done, every single event no matter how trivial, whether good or evil, is a form of energy that is eternally recorded in time within the Akashic Records surrounding our Earth. Some Qabalistist referred to this realm as Malkuth's (Earth) Qliphoth, or averse Sepiroth and considered it an evil, unbalanced Shadow realm filled with peril. This is based on the belief that mankind is primarily a sinful race and more often than not, what it fills the Akasha with is not necessarily good things. ... From a magickal point-of-view, since every man and every woman is a Star, we must consider our own bodies as being our 'Earth'. Thus it can be said that we too have an etheric or Akashic Shell around us. It doesn't record everything occurring on the planet Earth but rather only that which the Soul experiences in its incarnation. ... Call it what you want; a Shadow, Shell, devil or demon, the Augoeides or even a daimon, but the basic theories remain the same with three primary differences. The first is whether or not these 'doubles' have a consciousness of their own or are they simply a vehicle that encases a certain type of energy (Knowledge), the second is their 'intent' or 'purpose' and the third question often asked is whether or not they're good or evil. The answer to all three of the above is yes. It is an independent entity from us with an obvious consciousness; its intent is to assist and guide us in our incarnation while storing the sum total of our experience and whether or not it's good or evil depends upon what we, as mortals' want from it and teach it. ... Consider the fact that if a person has died, his death does not negate his daimon's existence. Magick teaches us that energy cannot dissipate but it also teaches us that the daimon can not ascend into the higher spiritual realms. But it will survive and if a person had bathed the daimon in vile, lustful or murderous things in either thought or action then the daimon will roam the Earth looking for a positive reflection of its master's intent in order to continually fulfill it. So is the daimon evil, or was its master? ... In truth, our own Spirit is but a Fallen Angel encased in flesh with a Soul questing for an experience. In yesterday's blog I wrote - "However, below the Abyss, as with All things, when the Sons of God (the perfection of Angels) descended through the Sun they automatically became bathed in duality." ... 7:15am For the history buff: The castle of Countess Elizabeth Bathory was raided on this date in 1610 and she is arrested for the murders of over 650 people. Legend has it that she was located in the basement hunched over a mangled body of a young girl, while three other young girls were found bound, gagged and chained to the wall. She was said to have jumped up and yelled, “You shall pay for this intrusion,” thinking it was her servants, but instead she heard as a reply, “ … this is not one of your servants, but the Palatine Prince of Hungary who stands before you and has come in the name of the King to bring justice to these accursed walls.” ................... and Albert Pike was born on this date in Boston, Massachusetts in 1809. He was a well-known Masonic author and composer of the ritual for the concordant body, the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, he was elected Sovereign Grand Commander of that body in 1859, an office he held until his death on April 2, 1891. ........... also, Edward Gein’s mother, Augusta, died on this date in Wisconsin in 1945. He would leave her room completely as it was the day that she died, thus would be born the legends behind the ‘mother’ in the infamous movie titled Psycho. Shortly after his mother’s death Edward would begin his murderous killing spree. ........... and to continue, Stephen Mace was born on this date in Milford, Connecticut in 1948. He has written such books as Stealing the Fire from Heaven, Squeezing Being, Sorcery as Virtual Mechanics, Nemesis & Other Essays and Sixteen Essays on Magick and the Politics it Implies. ................... and finally I should mention that Ann Livingston made her living as an accountant, but she was also a UFO investigator and writer or MUFON and had in fact, published an article entitled Electronic Harassment and Alien Abductions in the November 1993 MUFON Journal. The article was highly critical of Julianne McKinney, director of the Electronic Surveillance Project of the Association of National Security Alumni. McKinney totally regards the UFO phenomena as merely a ploy to cover up experimental machinery or experimental psychology. On this particular day of December 29th, at 7:15 AM, her apartment, which was close to O’Hare airport, in Chicago, Illinois, was lit up brightly by a blinding silver white flash. That very same day as she walked to her car in the parking lot five men dressed in all black suits, accosted her. She described the MIBs (Men in Black) as being almost faceless and carrying long, flashlight-like black objects which rendered her unconscious. She has no recollection of where she was taken, nor could she account for her lost time but shortly afterwards she developed a fast-form of ovarian cancer. This was not her first time abducted but it proved to be the most fatal.

Sunday December 28th 2008 – 10:40am I was asked a good question about my beliefs of the origins of the incubi and succubi. In truth, it has always been a perplexing problem but since ‘everything’ that ever has been, or will be, is created by a flawless, perfect God, the idea that he might be the creator of any malefic creature, or that evil might have flowed from him, seems illogical. Still, theologians have debated this for centuries and there are numerous theories as to origins of wickedness. In truth, everything above the Abyss on the Qabalistic Tree of Life is Absolute; containing the possibility of all things yet unmanifested. In affect, God/dess is Perfect. However, below the Abyss, as with All things, when the Sons of God (the perfection of Angels) descended through the Sun they automatically became bathed in duality. A Shadow being was created; a perfect double of themselves which according to Greeks is a daimon. But how did their ‘daimons’ become so evil and driven by sexuality? According to the Qabalah and even The Holy Bible these Fallen Angels were all heterosexual, and male; when they descended below the Abyss, they came desiring a fleshy indulgence with mortal women, they lusted in every way imaginable after their bodies and they sought to copulate and in affect they taught their ‘shadows’ well as to a 'purpose.' These Shadows, or daimons, being pure elemental energy, could not dissipate once created; they exist forever and if a mortal shell is destroyed or leaves this plane, they are free to go about the world to do their bidding as they seem fit, or have been taught. Thus, in can be said that the Fallen Angels were the creators of evil, not God. It’s a simple premise. ... The bisexuality or androgynous of the 'shadow' or 'daimon' is also to be noted because it resides below the Abyss and thus is the reason behind the existence of the incubi and succubi, or of male and female demons.

7:50am Luna writes, re: yesterday's posting of 6:35am - "J 93! I was reading the reply you wrote to Jay's query. About two years ago, I woke up from a nightmare... a true nightmare, with the "person" standing/laying/and jumping up and down on my chest.  The "succubus" was in the form of an old neighbor of mine, who I don't get along with, and would not be happy seeing if I ran into them.  I really tuned in that morning.  I was pretty freaked out.  As I drove out the driveway to do errands, I got the feeling I should drive the opposite way, and take the long way to my destination.  About three blocks down, there she was in her car ... driving right by me in the opposite direction.  I would not have seen her if I hadn't tuned in and driven the regular route. It was a relief, to me, to see her in the flesh and know her whereabouts. Interesting. 93s )O(." ........ Reply: I first learned about these pesky little critters after reading a book by R. E. L. Masters titled Eros And Evil, The Sexual Psychopathology of Witchcraft (1962). Lots of similar stories, it's a great read. It is one of those books which I've owned since mid-High School (circa-1968), or for about forty years which I so enjoy, I'll never sell. It holds the distinction of being one of the first books which I ever read to mention and explore sex magick from a serious point of view, if not from a really, really perverse twist. I learned about the Witches' Sabbath in all its details! One of my favorite chapters is titled 'The Semen and the Demon' but close runner ups would be 'Origins of Incubi and Succubi' and 'Offspring of Demoniality.' Yes, this book filled my young impressionable mind with ideas. 

7:40am For the history buffs: Georgii Ivanovitch Gurdjieff was born on this date in Alexandropol in Russian Armenia in 1877 to a Greek father and Armenian mother. He was a teacher, mystic, and philosopher. His autobiographical which is titled Meetings with Remarkable Men has him journeying to distant monasteries and esoteric schools in remotest parts of Central Asia and the Middle East in search of spiritual knowledge. It is arguably a work of fiction, either as a spiritual teaching device or parable.  He has been described “... as an insane driver who would not last two minutes on a modern road.” Fritz Peters tells that he frequently drove too fast on the wrong side of the road, often he would miss his turn and refusing not to retrace his steps he would look for a new route on his map. One such route brought him head on into a tree outside Paris on Jul 5, 1924 which was almost near fatal. He died on October 29, 1949, after being admitted into the hospital apparently too late, but - “Four hours after his death, his forehead was still warm. And when J. G. Bennett stood alone beside the body in the chapel of the American Hospital, he could hear someone breathing - even when he held his breath and closed his eyes. He suspected Gurdjieff of a last practical joke.” In truth, he was dead and thus ended the life of the man whom the British press call a “fakir and shit.” The Times magazine described him as a “remarkable blend of P. T. Barnum, Rasputin, Freud, Groucho Marx and everybody’s grandfather.”

Saturday December 27th 2008 – 4:00pm Every now and then

someone sends you a story that makes ya smile. This one

occurred on September 30th 2008 when 32-year-old Michelle

Allen of Middleton, Ohio was just quietly minding her

business, urinating on a neighbor’s porch, dressed as a cow, as

cops arrived and simply told her to please go home. Later that

same day the cops were again called when Allen was blocking

traffic and chasing terrified children around her neighborhood

"mooing" ... it was at this point that cops went ahead and

decided to arrest her. The arresting officer said Allen smelled of

alcohol, slurred her speech, and was belligerent. She also

allegedly cursed at the officer and challenged them to 'suck

her udders.' I think she'll go down as having one of the finest,

if not udderly terrifying, mug shot in the history of the world.

She was sentenced to thirty days in jail. ... I only report this

because her birthday is next Tuesday: she was born December 30, 1975.

11:00am Evelyn sent an email, she writes, “93 Dear Jerry, You didn't HO HO HO three times then spin round 7 times  counter clockwise etc.,  on Xmas Eve by any chance? ( I refer to your entry and  instructions of opening a portal to the Satanic realms on 22nd December). You're lucky your "new friend" didn't bring a crowd of party revellers with her! Luna could well be right - you don't mess with the Santa (or make jokes about his trusty sidekick Black Pete). ...I agree however that the key to such confrontations is to show no fear. I know it is easier said than done. The universally understood phrase "Fuck Off" usually helps too.  Funny but at first I thought you might have been keen to take on the challenge. After all, the visitor may just have been one of those "No names, OK?" kind of gals. ...The Sinterklass legend has ended up burning holes in my pockets twice this year. Now children growing up in Belgium and the Netherlands expect presents on both the 6th and 25th December because apparently, the fat bastard in the red suit who lives in the North Pole is not the same guy after all, but a distant relative of Sinterklass. .... I guess I can't complain too much  since I've been telling the children to accept that supernatural and mythological beings can and do exist, and may have a basis in reality or history. Also, that nothing is impossible.  At least Xmas comes but only once (or twice) a year depending on where you live. .... I'm also sending you all good wishes for 2009. Evelyn”

6:35am In regard to the 25th 6:50am posting, Jay writes, "Hey Jerry, interesting elemental activity you've been having of late. Just curious-- you said you banished a couple of times the other night, but I seem to recall you saying that banishing won't help when it comes to the elemental, that once you've befriended one you're really stuck with it. I was also wondering why it is that a succubus can so easily vanish. Indeed, I've read before that they seem to exist in a very precarious state and your experience here seems to back that up. Thanks for sharing with us. It's always interesting to get a further study into the nature of elementals.." .......... Reply: First, and most important, I'm not convinced that the entity on the eve of the 25th is the same one that threw the book. Most people lose control and panic when something happens or if they are confronted by something their rational mind can’t immediately explain but, as a magicians it is important to simply close your eyes and go within in order to get a first impression before the entity or the inner atmosphere becomes fleeting. To me, both the 'inner' space and my first impressions 'felt' different. Remember, all around us are numerous classifications of invisible beings that do not need our permission to be there. They float in and out of our rooms, walk our stairs and traverse the hidden byways of our homes like insects crawling through tiny passages. Some are good while others are dangerous, if not outright evil. Yes, numerous types of entities populate the realms between, living an existence which allows them to drift between their world and ours at their convenience or whenever beckoned. I think the entity that moved the book was an elemental, which you can banish but if I'm working with a specific elemental over a period of time I try to avoid doing this. I want it to 'grow' in power and manifest so that it can assist me, like a witch’s familiar. I only banish if I feel threatened and never to 'cast it out' but simply to ‘cast it away' for awhile. ... of the entity on the eve of the 25th I'm convinced it was a succubus. There was a dread about it, coldness hard to describe but you felt an immediate ‘intelligence’, not something that is usually accompanying an elemental. An elementals intent is often rooted in your own psyche, as if it were reading your mind and trying to fulfill something. You should search within and ask yourself what is it trying to say? If you can’t figure it out, or you banish too quickly, you’re up the creek without a paddle because the elemental will not be able to try again to impart its message. ... On the other hand, a succubus comes with its own intent and in all cases; they fear the light which is often merely your ‘realization’ that it is there or its exposure. It flees back into the darkness and like a mosquito it’ll wait until it senses you’re asleep again. 6:15an For the history buffs: Jocelyn Kelley was born on this date in Toledo, Ohio in 1956. Over forty years later, on June 23, 1992, she had a great spiritual awakening to the fact that she was a ‘walk-in.’ This implied that Kelley knew her original spirit had left and that she, as someone else, had taken over her body. Smith died. But the idea of visitors from outer space was ridiculed by the press, and unsympathetic officials shelved the project four years later. Smith claimed to have received telepathic messages from UFOs. 6:45am Here is an excerpt from this morning's diary but first, note yesterday's blog entry of 6:50am. Anyway, I wrote in my diary - "Friday December 26th. Moon/Cap. 6:08am Up. It was quiet last night, no ‘nightly’ visitations, or so I thought. But as I sat up in bed and put my feet on the floor, I looked down to see Aleister Crowley’ hardback book, The Magical and Philosophical Commentaries to The Book of the Law, laying there. It was over six feet from the bookshelf. Had it flown so far, you’d think it would have made some noise upon hitting the floor just a few feet from my bed and I, being such a light sleeper, would have heard it? Anyway, the book was open, revealing pages 172-173, verses I:60-62 respectively, I wonder what my visitor is trying to tell me?" ..... as an after thought; I wish she would pick a less rare and expensive book to throw the next time.

6:40am For the history buffs: Vlad Tepes, also known as the Impaler, died on this date in 1476 at the age of 45. He was born in 1431 in Sighisoara, a town in Transylvania and history more commonly refers to him as Vlad Dracula. His entire life was surrounded by the barbarity of war and extreme savagery which encouraged him to commit violent acts of inhuman cruelty of which legends are born. One account claims that he invited hundreds of beggars and other old, sick and poor people to a huge banquet at his castle. After eating, he asked them, “Would you like to be without cares, lacking nothing in this world?” Enthusiastically everyone screamed yes and he obliged them by boarding up the banquet hall and setting it on fire. There were no survivors, which in an odd twisted way ended their problems, as he had promised. It is recorded as the building was burning, he smiled and said, “I did this so that no one will be poor in my realm.” Be that as it may, his preferred method of execution was impalement. In fact, on Easter Sunday 1459, he had hundreds of people arrested whom he had suspected of killing his father and brother and he impaled each on a long sharp wooden stake. Them, to the utter horror of those who watched, Vlad was seen gathering blood in cups from his impaled victims in which he dipped his bread while having lunch. During his brief six year reign Vlad is credited with over 40,000 impalements. Finally, during a battle with the Turks on December 26, 1476, Dracula was killed near Bucharest. Vlad Dracula is considered the base character in Bram Stoker's epic story Dracula. ........... also, Henry Miller was born on this date in Manhattan, New York in 1891. He was the author of such famous works as Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and The Rosy Crucifixion, to name just a few. Like many individuals he had a brief encounter with Aleister Crowley. It is believed that Henry met the Great Beast through the French astrologer Conrad Moricand in 1933. His friend, Anais Nin, has stated in a chapter simply titled “November 2, 1934” from her book Incest, that “Henry has fallen under the spell of a remarkable old man {Aleister Crowley} who is fantastic and psychic, a painter gone mad in Zurich.” In a letter to his childhood friend Emil Schnellock written in October of 1935, Henry Miller included a short but interesting story describing an event which took place between him and Crowley. Obviously the Beast scared him. He writes that after he heard Aleister Crowley boast one day of the ease with which he could read men’s minds, he made it a point of keeping quiet in his presence. He then told Anais Nin, “I said nothing about my worries at all” in front of Aleister Crowley-or in other words he kept trying to blank out his mind. Why? Miller further explains, “I wouldn’t want that guy tampering with me. No sir!” Henry Miller quietly died in his sleep on June 7, 1978. .......... and finally, on December 26, 1995, in the early morning hours in the Torrecilla Baja region of Puerto Rico, a woman claimed to have heard strange noises in her house but luckily her dog’s barking scared off whatever it was. Later, the woman found her Siamese cat dead with the genitals removed, two guinea hens with their throats slit, a chicken with “perforations,” and four ducks and four rabbits dead in their cages. Obviously she had been visited by the Chupacabra, or “Goat sucker.” On the same day, near San German, eleven goats were found dead.

December 25th 2008 – 6:50am Here is an excerpt from my last night and today's morning diary that I like to share with my reader. - "Wednesday December 24th Sun in Capricorn, Moon/Sag.... 11:53pm I was jostled out of bed, from a sound sleep, by ‘something’ touching my left side. It was a distinct feeling; a kind of 'pressure' but not. In the darkness I felt a ‘woman’ present. She was moving ‘away.’ ... It all took place in seconds and then, feeling that she was gone, I closed my eyes and quickly fell back to sleep. 11:57pm Something grabbed my right leg and yank it so hard that I thought I was going to be pulled out of bed. I sat up, heart pounding, very conscious, still feeling a hand [?] around my leg slowly releasing its grip. It was a weird sensation. I got the impression that she had been trying to climb up onto body. I closed my eyes, got into my ‘space’ and felt the woman again; this time very dark, almost shapeless but with a black constantly changing form. She was not threatening but I ‘felt’ her intentions were. ? I asked who she was, she did not comply but ‘laughed’ ... I banished. I then jotted down the time & etcs on my note pad. 12:25am Khephra ... and then I went back to sleep. 1:33pm I was again woken, this time by a heaviness on my entire body; ‘she’ was on me, I was aroused but she quickly stood up upon me waking and moved toward the closet. I sensed she was 'startled' by my waking. She would not listen to my repeated commands to identify herself. I remember her eyes, bulging and white, and I also a heard a distant, very faint laugh. I banished. Calm immediately came over the room. Who or what was she? I sensed that she was no one in my immediate circle astral projecting or anyone that I knew ... very odd. 1:37am No sooner than I got my composure than it started ‘pouring’ out; hard and very windy against the windows. Coincidence? ... 2:05am After typing the above entry, while everything was still fresh in my mind, I went back to bed.

Thursday December 25th, 6:15am I’m up, it’s Christmass. Fuck. I had no more ‘episodes’ during the night, which I might add was very strange. A female vampire, a lustful succubus on Christmas Eve, just what I needed! Maybe next year I won't pick on Santa so much?"

6:30am Here is a Christmas story for all to appreciate. It occurred on December 25, 1943. It was a cold day, one of those typically snowy English winter days which found Grady McMurtry sitting in Aleister Crowley’s apartment at 93 Jermyn Street enjoying a nice dinner. Afterwards, as they were sat talking and playing chess, there came “a raucous noise at the door.” Crowley looked up saying; “I wonder what in the world that is?”  He slowly got up out of his chair and walked toward the door. Opening it, he found four young English boys engaging in the British festivity of caroling on Christmas Day. It was customary to continue caroling until given money for the service. Crowley, not amused, did what most of us have probably always wanted to do. He slammed the door in their faces, screaming at the top of his lungs “To the lions with them! To the lions with them!” Not surprisingly, that day the kids went away not a penny richer. Whenever Grady told this story, he always joked, “That’s the Aleister Crowley I knew.”  

6:25am For the history buffs: In the early morning hours of this day in 1886, eleven year old Aleister Crowley experimented with his cat, Mrs Hagar, to see if really did have nine lives” He poisoned it, choked it, used chloroform on it, burned it and threw it out the window, amongst other things. Needless-to-say, Crowley was proud of the fact that he proved the superstition was not true. Yes, boys will be boys. ........... also, Robert LeRoy Ripley was born on this date in Santa Rosa, California in 1890. Robert L. Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! cartoon panel was a staple of American newspapers in the first half of the 20th century. The cartoon featured true-life oddities from around the globe, always with the tagline “Believe It... Or Not!” Ripley’s first such cartoon appeared in the New York Globe in 1918. As his readership grew Ripley began traveling abroad to find tidbits for his cartoon; he became famous as a globe-trotting adventurer, eventually claiming visits to 198 different countries. The cartoon’s success spawned radio and TV shows, books and museums which continued into the 21st century.  He died of a heart attack on May 27, 1949. ............. and Adolf Josef Lanz (Liebenfels) claimed that it was on this date in 1900 that he founded the Order of the New Templars.  He said that he set himself up as the order’s Grand Master and adopted the swastika as his emblem. In 1907 Jorg Lanz von Liebenfels, with the aid of his wealthy friends, purchases the ruins of an ancient medieval castle, Burg Werfenstein, just outside the village of Struden near Grein in Upper Austria. Lanz soon converted the castle into the headquarters of the Order of the New Templars (ONT). ................. On December 25, 1924 Edward Rodman Serling was born in Syracuse, New York. The world knows him as the television writer Rod Serling; inextricably linked to The Twilight Zone. ................... and it was on December 25, 1925 that Carlos Aranha was born in born in Cajamarca, Peru, although he told his wife he was born in 1931 to ‘appear to be younger.’ He also changed his last name to Casteneda in 1959 when he became a U. S. citizen. He became the best-selling author of a number of books; such as Journey to Ixtlan, which deals with a Mexican Yaqui shaman, named Don Juan Matus, and his pharmacologically induced visions. However, a friend of Castaneda at UCLA declared, “I believe Carlos Castaneda is the greatest psychic fraud of the 20th century.”

11:35am A student writes in regards to yesterday's 5:00pm posting - "I will give you more feedback on my first house in reflection with my outer image later when I can write. But a few days ago I started asking many of my closest friends what there first impression of me was .. I will also ask a few more casual friends. Just an experiment but it occurred to me that it might give me some insight into this and the results so far have been interesting!" .... Reply: Keep in mind that as a member of the Lover grade it is technically not the ‘image’ or ‘impression’ that others have of you that you’d like to get under control as much as those images which ‘you’ want them to think about. There will always be people who’ll love you and hate you, think you’re brilliant and think you’re stupid; consider how Crowley was seen in the world. You’re no different and asking people their ‘first impression’ of you is like taking a Political Poll; in other words, it all depends upon who and where you ask but in truth, who gives a shit? Family, girlfriends, acquaintances and friends come & go but in the end the only person to survive is ‘yourself’ ... what was it that they said to you in your First Degree (OTO) initiation around the Sacred Well when you were being prepared for birth?  Oh ya – “This is the Pathway to the Knowledge of Thyself. Be true toward thyself” etc & etc. ... Good advice. So, what is required of a Lesser Adept is to ignore everyone else and examine your own birth chart, your life, the direction that you want to go in your new ‘consciously’ chosen incarnation as dictated by your magickal motto and then determine how to mold the clay [i.e. your MOE] to fit the direction that you want to go. Change, like ‘control’, always starts from ‘within’ ... and as a Lover, a Lesser Adept, you should not be looking forward toward Kether but backwards toward Malkuth and now, with your Sun, you should be ‘Illuminating’ the below and tending to the growth of your little world. ... Many Lesser Adepts fail simply because they think that going forward is the Key to success at this point ... silly rabbits.

5:40am I want to give my readers an idea of what I have done throughout 2008 ... first, if you don't know how I work on this blog, let me explain. I have a Word file where every entry is added and formatted, day by day, and then up-loaded onto this page into this squeezed format. The original document has full pages, single spaced [no pictures] and I just tallied up the page count from January 1st to today and I got a whopping 577 pages of blog entries. ... Also, besides oil painting, I hold Open Houses, give lectures, socialize, hit the bar alot and I like to throw parties. I have also released four issues of CORNELIA (magazine) at an average of fifty pages each; or roughly 200 pgs total. I have also written numerous A.'.A.' Epistles, and I've compiled a 275 pg 'AA Work Book for the man of Earth Grade.' And if that is not enough I've written three other books; one on 'Magickal Theory and The Holy Guardian Angel' which is completed, another titled 'Aletheia, Understanding the Truth behind Astrology' and a third book on 'The History of the Roman Coins of the Cornelia Family', of which the latter two are almost complete; all in all about 500 pages between the three. ... I should also mention that I've answered literally thousands of emails throughout the year with copies on file of most ... and my Magickal Diary for 2008 is single spaced typed and as of today it is 860 pgs. ... I'm not even going into detail of all the other things that I do like daily rituals, or socializing at the local Coffee Houses, or spending time with my son Faustus, or dealing with serious health issues or even of A.'.A.'. or W.C.C.P.S. related projects, or of other misc things that I've worked on or done throughout this year ... etc, etc & more etcs ... but I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you ever wonders why I don't answer all my emails quickly it might be because I'm just a little bit busy or preoccupied from time to time. [big smile here] 

5:30am For the history buffs: Ignatius of Loyola was born on this date in Loyola Castle, Azpeitia, Guipuzcoa, Spain in 1491. He was the youngest of thirteen children and was baptized Iñigo Lopez de Loyola. He was canonized in 1622; declared by Pope Pius XI to be the patron saint of spiritual exercises and retreats. He died on July 31, 1556. ............. also, Charles Stansfeld Jones joined the AA on this date in 1909, taking the motto O.I.V.V.I.O, which stands for Unus In Omnibus, Omnia In Uno. Later Aleister Crowley would write that Jones “…tried to improve the Tree of Life by turning the Serpent of Wisdom upside down! Yet he could not even make his scheme symmetrical: his little remaining good sense revolted at the supreme atrocities. Yet he succeeded in reducing the whole Magical Alphabet to nonsense, and showing that he had never understood its real meaning.” ............ and on December 24, 1973 it was predicted that the ‘Christmas Comet’ more properly known as Kohoutek, was to destroy the Earth on this date. It missed.

Tuesday December 23rd 2008 – 5:35pm David Hohl sent me an email. He writes - "As an update, I wanted you to know that In Search  of Lovecraft was picked up by Maxim Media International and they just told me the dvds will be pressed and ready in mid-February for distribution. They just finished the cover art and are now working on the DVD menus and special features." .... I replied, "I’m drooling thinking about the Lovecraft movie; keep me posted. The cover design looks ‘fantastic’ ... they did a nice job.

5:15pm To a student I wrote - "Ah, great term – Mercurial prostitute. Oddly, I’ve used it for years to describe myself in my diary. After many an entertaining afternoon I note in my diary the letters ‘MP120’ or simply the words ‘Mercurial Prostitute’ which has always meant to me a distinction between finding a women to get laid compared to one who enjoys the finer points of simply analyzing and playing with the male anatomy while we both talk about magick, the Universe and all things of interest. ... Its hard to find a playful woman who truly appreciates a good conversation ... "

5:00pm To a student I wrote - "Tiphereth is a dual sphere; the Lower half rules the Lower Adept of ‘Hod, Netzach and lower Tiphereth’ ...  its task to put all things ‘downward’ toward Malkuth under control while the Higher Adept focus upward. What do Hod and Netzach imply as tools pendant to Tiphereth?  Use them, don’t be a pawn by them. ... Also, have I not told you that the Lower Adept rules the lower ego; epitomized in your chart by the First House?  This house places more importance on ‘Do what thou Want’ above one’s True Will as dictated by ‘Do what thou Wilt’ and more often than not, it portrays your ‘Personality’ or the image as it is seen and interpreted by others, but it is not necessarily the real you as it is understood by yourself and concealed in the 10th House. ... So what do you have to get under control? ...Your ‘image’ ... as seen by others because it is the vehicle of your Star." .... Ah, what is a Lesser Adept supposedly to be adept at if not his reality?

2:45pm Frank sent an amusing email. He wanted to know, me being such a 'spiritual' person and all, why I often use graphic sexual jargon of the lowest common denominator when discussing 'High Magick.' It was a good question. It truth, most of humanity is unable to think from an archetypal level. Reflecting intellectually through the use of images and symbols does not come natural for most people. But there is a way to ‘sidestep’ this dilemma. First, you must realize the basic fundamentals of ‘As Above, So Below.’ Next you must grasp the fact that what happens on one plane, like the mundane, will be mimicked on the next or the Above. It then becomes easy to realize that if I’m talking graphically about human nature from a sexual point of view as it blindly, if not unconsciously, seeks a mate then obviously this pattern of 0=2 uniformly exists on every level. So the best way to ‘lay’ a foundation in the average person’s mind is to talk to them on the level where they reside while offering them tidbits of thought to ponder from a higher level as if baiting them up the Sacred Mountain.

11:25am I had to remove the 'picture' and my posting from earlier this morning which stated “I found a rare photo taken after I had swore the Oath of the Abyss and I thought I'd share it with my readers” which then portrayed me after I had embraced the Goddess Nuit and when I just just ”coming back across the abyss!” ... For some reason every time I kept adding a new entry I could not get the picture to line up with its appropriate entry once the page was uploaded and, after numerous attempts, getting more and more frustrated, I finally gave up and deleted both. Sorry if you missed the picture, it was a good one ...

10:50am A student wrote – “I have been reading the 1st chapter in The Book of the Law...and one cannot consider Nuit without Hadit. I am realizing that I've always thought of Hadit as my Ego...the way that I define [myself] “ .... Reply: Very good, Hadit is the ‘point’ of focus as defined by Self. He is the ‘male’ in everything and the positive quality from every point of view.  Remember, if we take away all the religious clutter of centuries our Soul is simply the lowest quality tethered to our human body of the divine spark or spiritual essence known as our ‘Spirit.’  ... Our Soul is Hadit, our Spirit is Nuit. In other words, Soul/Hadit and Spirit/Nuit are rooted deep within and without; they are one and the same and inseparable. However, they function differently. The Soul (Hadit) is not only the conscious or animating force of our Divine Spirit (Nuit) which utilizes the human body in order to gain an experience through incarnation but it is also our unconsciousness, our dream world and all other areas where the fine line of reality is not so clearly defined. In many respects we can say that our Soul (Hadit) is the ‘point-of-view’ on Earth of our Spirit (Nuit) rather than an actually independent quality. In other words, it is the tool of ‘perception’ which allows the Spirit to be reflective of its surroundings in order to function within everything that happens in our personal universe. ... We, being Hadit, like our Soul itself, are for all practical purposes in the ‘middle region’ or as the Greeks would call it Metaxu which actually translates as a bridge between two things, or an intermediate realm.  Thus, if Hadit is looked upon as Earth, it is truly in the middle of infinite space. Historians, however, hotly debate the actual location of Metaxu but, in truth, it is neither our conscious world of perceptions nor is it our deep internal Spiritual realm of which we are oblivious. It lies ‘somewhere’ between the two. 

10:45am To a female student I replied: Your ‘discovery’ about Left & Right Pillars and men and women is very good. On the higher level man seeks Nuit, the Goddess within while women seek Hadit, or the God manifested. Understanding this on the lowest animalistic level, while reflecting upon the Laws of ‘As Above, So Below’, consider the fact that men seek pussy while a women seek the cock. Men find the answer to their cock by seeking the within, while women find the answer to their pussy by that which is extended outward into the world. ... Of course all this is just metaphorical because it doesn’t account for bi-sexuality which is another story and the root of XIth Degree OTO magick. ... Also, as for yourself finding answers to your pussy (metaphorical for Self) outwardly into the world does not mean that you will not climb the Tree of Life in quest of Self inward but it implies you’ll be using a different method than that used by a man. ... Anyway, first you must remember that above the Abyss lie both male and female qualities of God and Goddess; the anima and animus respectively. Our quest for such is indicative of the magickal formula of ON which states that both sexes must go within to understand Self; each traversing the sacred mountain of Abiegnus differently while seeking their opposite while manifesting the quest on an almost ‘unconscious’ level in their reality. ... I seek the eternal feminine within, my goddess, while looking at females around me as representatives of her; i.e. the fundamentals of Tantra. ... Yes, O=2 is in everything; bravo. You quoted me as writing:  "the quest for the opposite has always been and will always be, until the end of time." While adding “And love is the glue that unites them.” ... Yes, it is, and consider AL I:29 - “For I am divided for love’s sake, for the chance of union.” Or AL I: 41 – “There is no bond that can unite the divided but love.” ... I agree with Crowley’s assessment that ‘Love’ is a quality of Venus; rooted in ‘N’ of the formula of ON; the feminine half of the equation.  Consider these ideas:

a. Men work off the Left Hand Pillar [O] and the paths of Shin, Ayin,

Mem and Cheth.

b. Women work off the Right Hand Pillar [N] and the paths of Phe,

Nun, Kaph and Vau. 

c. Men are often equated as ‘Mars’ (5-Geburah) while women are

‘Venus’ (7- Netzach)

d. Men quest on the ‘Descending’ Pillar downward, women quest on

the ‘Ascending’ Pillar is inward.

e. Men, rooted naturally in Geburah’ seek ‘Hod’, while women who

are naturally rooted in Netzach seek Chesed. 

f. Men naturally bring ‘down’ the mother, the Goddess or Binah which

is the animus (female), while women are naturally drawn ‘upward’

toward the father, the God toward Chockmah which is the anima

(male).

On the lowest mundane level a woman accepts the male sperm, drawing it within and upward, metaphorically toward ‘Chockmah’ the seat of Stars yet born and once a ‘Soul’ has accepted the 'seed' as its incarnation it is drawn over into her womb (Binah) and down her Left Hand Pillar to inevitably be birthed as a child. ... 6:15am For the history buffs: Joseph Smith was born on this date in Sharon, Vermont in 1805. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York. It is a well-known fact that Joseph Smith read the magical treatise by Francis Barrett called The Magus (1801). From this he learned how to use a ‘crystal’ in order to obtain angelic visions. However, at first, he predominantly sought buried treasure and missing items. All this information came to light when historians realized that Joseph Smith was arrested as a fraudulent ‘glass looker’ and was found guilty in Bainbridge, NY in 1826. Court records clearly state that Joseph Smith, “had a certain stone which he had occasionally looked at to determine where hidden treasures in the bowels of the earth were.” Then, in 1823, Joseph Smith said that he was visited by an angel named Moroni, who told him about an ancient record containing God’s dealings with the former inhabitants of the American continent. How the Angel appeared, whether it was in person or in the crystal, has long been debated. In 1827, Joseph Smith supposedly retrieved these ancient records, which were inscribed on thin golden plates, and shortly afterward he began translating its words by the “gift of God.” The resulting manuscript, known as The Book of Mormon, was published in March 1830. After which he re-buried the golden plates. On April 6, 1830, Joseph Smith organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became its first president. Sadly, Joseph Smith was persecuted much of his adult life and was killed along with his brother Hyrum by a mob in Carthage, Illinois, on June 27, 1844. Arguably there are two ways to look at Joseph Smith’s life. You can either view him as a fraud and an opportunist who shamelessly exploited his religious followers, who was murdered by an angry mob, infuriated by all his crazy beliefs, or, if you are a Mormon, he is the greatest man who ever lived. ............... also, on December 23, 1887 Rev. A. F. A. Woodford died. He was the person who found the original ‘Golden Dawn Cipher Manuscripts’ in a cupboard where Kenneth Mackenzie, a leading Masonic figure of his time, had stored them before his death. Woodford later showed the manuscripts to Dr. Westcott, due to Westcott’s reputation as being a scholar of ancient lore. He realized that the cipher used in the manuscripts was similar to that used in the 15th century by Abbott Trithemius to encode some of his writings. He then began to translate the manuscripts and soon discovered it contained a series of five condensed Masonic ritualistic grade initiations. Westcott then commissioned S.L. MacGregor Mathers to re-write the rituals into a more workable shape. Is it any wonder that the first governing triad of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn were these self-same individuals?
