~ JANUARY 15th - 21st 2009 ~

Wednesday January 21st 2009 – 7:15pm Luna writes - "Jerry 93! I have been thinking....and correlating...and I have concluded that when the old skilled ones ov love and war are dilly dallying around in emails about hula girls and pillow talk, that we are actually engaged in a magical working that is outside ov ourselves....that outside our doors, our younger-lings are battling away in terrible tantrums of puppy love and other nonsense-icles.  I am very happy to be an elder now. I wish them all well....but I can feel them scratching and clawing away....there is nothing that we old farts can do, but to rock away in our own happiness talking about LOVE...and how to do it....I hope all of them (meaning about half a dozen of you half pints) are tuning in tonight! All we can do is send them Love and lot's of pornographic psi images! 93s )O(."  ......... Reply: Yes, I agree - "we are actually engaged in a magical working" by babbling sexual experiences and data etc but I must be doing something wrong. I am almost 58 and here I am still sleeping with young college age girls that I pick up on Telegraph Avenue; they keep me young, keep sexual thoughts in the forefront of my mind and I go to sleep with a smile on my face. How can I send psi images if I don't practice what to send?  :)-

4:55pm Jerri writes - "93 Jer! Ok...so, you really want to know (regarding the 3:07 pm posting today)?? It's the meat AND the motion! Sorry guys, but size DOES indeed matter (honestly, it's more in the width than the length though)!!! Let me break it down for you...If you have a smaller penis but have talent...ok. That's very good. We like this and are happy. But, If you are well endowed, with no skills--this is NO GOOD whatsoever...we are unimpressed and severely disappointed!!! Seriously though, if you have a large penis AND know how to use it? That is LOVE baby. Love! AND to dispel yet another myth...Yes, it's true. Women can be pigs too!!! Hehehe. 93 93/93 Jerri." .......... Reply: There is nothing 'pigggish' about talking honestly about ones views on sex. I just wish more women would be as open as the men. Most guys have no problem talking tongue in cheek on this subject and although women like to talk alot amongst yourselves its difficult to get you to open up and explore a conversation ... well, speaking of 'tongues' ... I am reminded of a quote from the movie Braveheart where Nicolette tells Princess Isabelle - "Englishmen don't know what a tongue is for." ... And being half French and a Crab (69) I can tell you that it's neither the meat, nor the motion; it's the prelude!

3:50pm Luna replied to my 2:55pm posting - "93! R!  I'm comin' over to your island, El Cappy! Save some Hula Girls for me! 93s Panninggazz da Pyrat." ..... Reply: Do you like em' raw or with a few sprinkles of hot sauce on their ass? ..... Luna replied -"Raw with two whole jalepenos...you know, about the size of two of my forefingers." .... Reply: My mouth is watering  :)-

3:10pm Boy today has run the gambit of entries ....

3:07pm John writes, after reading my 12:15pm posting - "If women are only three or four inches deep what is all this fuss about size then?" ..... Reply: and he goes on and on, he’s a man with a mission. Be that as it may, size is one of those great 'myths' originating as a macho thing amongst men but there is no truth to it; the average man, both black and white, is a little over six inches. That is a fact. Do your research. However, I'd like to remind you – “It’s not the meat, it’s the motion.”  What do you women think?

2:55pm Luna replies - "The Firesign Theater Rocks! and you are hilarious....you are King of your own Monster Island.” ....... Reply: Ya, Groooowl! Pound my chest with one hand; slap my penis against a palm tree with the other and don’t call me late for supper! Coconuts and little Hawaiian girls on a half shell will do!

2:35pm Luna sent a great email re: "Corn Blog January 21st 12:15pm" - "93! I can't tell you how much this blog entry comforts me. For those of us who are not initiated, reading the secret doctrines, and the correspondence that you initiates write back and forth in secret language....well, sometimes it just makes us unwashed folks paranoid and crazy.  We literally cannot figure out if you people are talking in complete code, about sex, about kundalini energy...or all of the above.....so, reading this humorous bantering today was nice!  93s )O(." ....... Reply: Regardless how initiated we are, or are not, we are all still Bozos on this bus! And speaking of the Firesign Theatre, on the same album we find the quote by Teslacles Deviant to Fudd's Law - "It goes in, it must come out."  ... which is kinda appropriate to my 12:15pm posting, no?

12:15pm Kath writes quite abit but I found it amusing when she wrote - "So Tifereth is Solar male-like and the 6th Seffiroth so I guess this is why you guys work out of the Sun and we the Moon? I mean you guys comes with a standard 6" penis, no?" ...... Reply: this is one of those questions which is simply hard to answer but of course she's referring to 'average.' If length implies a Sepherothic connection for the man I'd be working out of Netzach the sphere whose color is green and I hate vegtables so what does all this mean? A gag reflex? ... Plus, if length or depth implies a Qabalistic connection then the average woman's vagina is only 3 to 4 inches deep and hardly 9 inches which is the number of Yesod the Moon. So do woman really work out of Yesod or do they function between Binah-3 and Chesed-4? ... Hey, wait a minute, isn't the Abyss or Chaos between these two spheres? Come to think of it; I've been married twice before, I think you're onto to something Kath!

11:50am Luna sent an update on Steve Cohen's condition. She writes, "93! Steven is still holding his own. He is cheerful and will be back online asap.  We completely dusted and cleaned his apt. Thank you for all of your support and energy....he is feeling it! He sends his love and thanks to you all. 93s )O(." ........ This is great news, thanks!

11:00am To address a question: yes, you'll find numerous meanings behind the symbols of the blood of the Red Lion and the gluten of White Eagle; many often contradictory. Throughout the centuries there have been hundreds of interpretations of what these constitute with no one definition considered prominent. Alchemists have always had a tendency to make their definitions more personal rather than towing a generic line. If you're reviewing ancient Alchemical text you must realize that they will only confuse you when reviewing modern western Tantric thought on the same subject. Yes, you are correct; in many ancient text blood of the Lion is feminine, representing Fire and an animal who walks the Earth Below while also referring to a woman's monthly cycle ... while the white gluten of the Eagle represents Water and refers to the male seed; or 'bird droppings’ from Above. Even within some modern Hermetic Golden Dawn schools this is still being taught but this symbolism is often reversed in modern sex magick schools like Ordo Templi Orientis  [ref: IXth Emblems and Mode of Use]. ... I'd advise sticking to one school of thought.

8:40am Mary writes, "Been reading you're postings on the Formula of ON. Why all the dancing? Why can’t you just spell it out?" ..... Reply: For starters, the formula works in the higher stages of the Ruach. This is an archetypal realm, not bathed in our mundane language but more so in symbols. The best I can do is to offer my readers 'cosmic tidbits' in the hopes that it might trigger an epiphany to get off your ass and do some leg-work. People on Malkuth rarely want to put the effort into climbing the Sacred Mountain of Abiegnus. They always want the mountain to come to them. I am reminded of the famous quote by Mohammed – “If Mohammad can't go to the mountain, let the mountain come to Mohammad.” ... but few realize that the oldest mention of this quote is actually found in ‘Essays’ (1625) by the English philosopher Francis Bacon (1561-1626). In his book Bacon mentions the quote and then adds: “If one cannot get one's own way, one must adjust to the inevitable. The legend goes that when the founder of Islam was asked to give proofs of his teaching, he ordered Mount Safa to come to him. When the mountain did not comply, Mohammed raised his hands toward heaven and said, “God is merciful. Had it obeyed my words, it would have fallen on us to our destruction. I will therefore go to the mountain and thank God that he has had mercy on a stiff-necked generation.” .... Learn well from this story grasshopper!

6:55am I wish to extend a great big 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' out to Rey DeLupos of the Queen of Heaven Clerk House in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Have a great day, with lots of smiles and I'll lift a beer to you tonight, or maybe two or three. ......... and I sent Rey a private email subject simply 'HB' for 'Happy Birthday' ... 8:20am He replied - "Greetings Jerry, :) 93! HA! When I read the subject header I thought you were sending me some notification regarding Hymenaeus Beta!  [chuckle] Needless to say, I hope this post finds you smiling and enjoying the sweetness of Life! As for myself ... Life at the Santa Fe Community Foundation is slowly getting back to a state of normalcy after the frenetic work of the 'season of giving'. I am looking forward to a more sane pace. ;)  Thanks again for thinking of me on this day of my 45th year on Terra Firma! I send you Love and Light! 93, 93/93 Fraternally in L.V.X.,  Rey." ...... Reply: & I send the same back to and your family.

6:15am Ricky replied to last nights 4:45pm posting by writing - "Jerry 93, YES! Of course! Pe! the connecting factor of the male and female aspects! Its so obvious!!! 'One foot planted firmly ON the earth'! ... As far as De Hac Formula Considerationes Kabbalisticae goes, AC definitely "wrought cunningly to conceal"! you are right most went over my head but from your post and this chapter I realized that I have been investigating in the wrong way. I wrote to you the other day about "trying to understand the formula within myself" but I keep going about it from the lowest possible stand point. These couple of weeks, studying these two letters, have given me such a more profound and deeper respect for this art! On so many planes, On so many levels that I can't begin to comprehend the whole as of yet! ... I shall continue to contemplate what you have said along with the study of chapter 87 and hopefully in 120 years I will get it! 93 93/93 Ricky ." ........ Reply: Very good. As I previously said; we know that the equation of 'N' works through Nun 50, Vau 6 and Kaph 20 and now, if you add Phe 80, it'll bring the total to 156. .... Is it just a coincidence that Left & Right Hand Pillars just happen to add to 418 & 156? .... You want more to contemplate? Then read The Stag-Beetle in The Book of Lies.

6:00am For the history buffs: On this date Rome’s third and most ruthless emperor, Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, more commonly known as Caligula, was murdered by members of his own Praetorian Guard in 41AD. He was only 28 years old. …...…. also, The Charleston Courier ran an interesting article in their paper on this date in 1843 titled The Exhibition at the Masonic Hall. It dealt with a traveling exhibition which had come to their city. It seems that in August of 1842 an English gentleman named Dr. J. Griffin arrived in New York bearing a spectacular curiosity, the body of a real mermaid. Griffin explained that he had acquired it in South America, though it had been caught near the Feejee Islands. He also claimed that he was on his way to England where the mermaid would become part of the collections of the Lyceum of Natural History. However, before traveling over seas the mermaid was first put on display in P. T. Barnum’s American Museum in New York. It drew enormous interest and was widely accepted as authentic. Soon afterwards it went on tour around the country but Southerners reached an opposite conclusion than their Northern brethren. The Charleston Courier claimed that the mermaid was a fraud perpetrated by “our Yankee neighbors.” Due to this article a heated exchanges of letters and more articles ensued which either defended or challenged the mermaid’s authenticity. It became an issue of ‘honor.’

Tuesday January 20th 2009 – 4:45pm Ricky from Georgia writes - "Jerry 93! Your post of 8:55 yesterday is very interesting! I see that I wasn't going quite far enough whit it. I supposed that the formula 'began and ended" within Tipharet, I see I was wrong... I never even realized that the paths of the Left hand pillar, plus ayin was 418! I know that energy flows down the left hand pillar and is forced back up the right, but the right hand pillar is not so inviting, with an unfamiliar number to me, 176!? So I began to look else where. Interestingly enough the paths Qoph, Nun, Heh, Aleph, bring this energy up through Tipharet straight to Chessed and then Kether. It doesn't mirror the left but it does add to 156! I am not sure if this is right either though because is in an unbalanced glyph if you draw it out on the tree.. But then again maybe I should be looking for the qualities of 176 that I don't know yet.. The best I have so far is that it reduces to 14 then 7 so it is a number of Netzach, or that 176/4=44=DM.... maybe an allusion to the Red Tincture of the Alchemists? Right track? No? 93 93/93Ricky." ........... Reply: Very impressive thought pattern but a little off. Consider these facts about the Formula of ON:

1. O-Ayin 70 - male ........ N-Nun 50 - female.

2. Both masculine and feminine qualities are not a reference to the division
of the sexes but are internal formulas found in both men and women.

3. Masculine : Left Hand Pillar - Binah/Geburah/Hod
united by The Chariot (Cheth 8) & Hanged Man (Mem 40)

4. Feminine : Right Hand Pillar  Chockman/Chesed/Netzach
united by The Hierophant (Vau 6) & Wheel (Kaph 20)

Everything is very balance at this point on our internal Tree of Life: right and left, male and female, positive and negative; what is found on one side is mimicked on the other. ... However, the Left Hand Pillar requires 'grounding' otherwise 'one foot planted on earth' is Alchemically meaningless and as a Fool we'll walk off a cliff. Thus the path of The Aeon (Shin 300) is required which makes the Formula of Abrahadabra 418 workable. ... I mentioned previously that the majority of the chapters in Liber Aleph begin 'ON' such and such but what about those chapters which do not begin with ON? What are they trying to teach? Although it may go way over your head, read De Hac Formula Considerationes Kabbalisticae. ... We know so far that the equation of 'N' works through Nun 50, Vau 6 and Kaph 20 ... so, what's missing in order for the male to unite with the female half of the equation?

7:00am I heard the man inside the Lost in Space robot died Sunday of congestive heart failure. Lost in Space was a space-age retelling of The Swiss Family Robinson story. Bob May, who had donned the Robot's suit in this 1960s television show, was just 69. Although the Robot's voice was actually dubbed by another man, May is often attributed with saying the infamous line - "Danger, Will Robinson," which has become a national catch phrase.

Monday January 19th 2009 8:55pm OK Mike, here is another clue to 'ON' - there are four paths critical to understanding the male equation of 'O' in the Formula of ON. Examine the Left-Hand Pillar and you'll see that the three central spheres are connected by two paths. The spheres are Binah-3 (Saturn), Geburah-5 (Mars) and Hod-8 (Mercury). The two paths connecting these spheres are Cheth, The Chariot, and Mem, The Hanged Man. If Tiphereth (Sun) enters into this equation into Hod it's do so via The Devil [Ayin -'O'] path and it will automatically move in a downward fashion toward Malkuth. It achieves this goal through the connecting path between Hod and Malkuth known as The Aeon. This path is ruled by Shin, the Hebrew letter attributed to the elemental quality of Fire; it Balance Mem, or the path of Water on the other side of Hod. So, numerically, what do these four paths add up to? .... understanding what has just been said, now you know why Crowley has written so much on ABRAHADABRA in Liber Aleph! ........ and there are four paths critical to understanding the female equation of 'N' in the Formula of ON. What are they?

5:30pm Mike writes a tome but part asks - "Can you give us any hints to the Formula of ON where we might research?" ...... Reply: For starters; Heliopolis is the Greek name for the Egyptian city of the Sun which is also called Annu or simply An. This city was originally founded on the right bank of the Nile just north of present day Cairo around 2443BC by Pharaoh Usertsen the Ist. It was the center of worship of RA, the Sun God. According to The Holy Bible, the Hebrews had their own name for this Solar community. They called the city ON (Genesis xli, 45, 50 and xlvi, 20). ... In Sepher Sephiroth Crowley simply refers to ON-120 as “a name of God.” ... In a piece that he wrote called Gematria, Crowley tells us that 120 = 1x2x3x4x5, “and thus a synthesis of the power of the pentagram.” ... Note: The Equinox Vol.I, No.3, the 5th installment of The Temple of Solomon the King ... Also, Liber XV is the central rite of the O.T.O. both private and public, ON is described as, “Our Lord and Father the Sun who travellest over the heavens.” ... In Magick in Theory and Practice Crowley wrote that ON is the “Arcunum of Arcana whose significance is taught gradually in the O.T.O..”  In Liber Aleph Crowley discusses the symbolism behind this word throughout.  Most notable is the chapter entitled “ON the keys of Death and the Devil, Arcana of the Tarot of the R.C. Brotherhood,” which reads “It shall profit thee much, o my Son, or I err, that I instruct thee in the Mystery of the Paths of Nun and Ayin, that in our Rota are figured in the Atu called Death, and in that called The Devil.” ... These two paths join the Sun to Venus and Mercury respectively and enumerate to 120.  Samekh, or the Atu called Art, which joins the Sun to the Moon also has this same value when spelt in full. The paths of the Devil (O) and Death (N) are united in Peh the Path of Mars or the Tower and these three paths have a total value of 200 or Resh, the Sun.  Yet 120 is also equal to the number of years it symbolically takes an Adeptus Minor to go through all the grades up to Tiphereth where he now presently resides. Also, note Liber 777 Col.CLXXXVII on ‘Magical Formulae’ ... I can go ON and ON but I'm not going to spell it out for you, do some homework now.

10:05am And I’d also like to mention that finally  CORNELIA No.20 is ready to go into the printers this week and hopefully it will be in my hands by Thursday or Friday. It promises to be a great issue. It is on the history of the Caliphate and what Crowley had envisioned by creating this office. It also reproduces the now infamous ‘Caliphate Letters’ amongst others things. This issue begins with an Introduction; On the Caliph by Frater Petros; followed by a lengthy article titled AN OPEN EPISTLE ON UNDERSTANDING THE CALIPHATE by Frater Orpheus, next is an article titled AFTER THE DEATH OF GRADY LOUIS McMURTRY; An autobiographical sketch of the life of J. Edward Cornelius between 1985-1987 by Frater AO583, followed by MY SWORD TO HIM THAT CAN GET IT by Frater AO583 which explains where Crowley came up with this term and how the Caliphate is passed from one person to the next. This issue ends with a section titled A FEW PHOTOS FROM OUR ARCHIVES. ... We are now taking orders ... Click HERE for details

9:35am We are pleased to announce that we have posted AN HISTORICAL LETTER of JULY 9th 1974 ... In July of 1974 Grady McMurtry was solicited by Ron Wright to write an article for their upcoming “special Aleister Crowley - O.T.O. issue” of Llewellyn’s Gnostica News which they were planning to release in September. He sent Israel Regardie a copy of the article before sending it to Gnostica News. Regardie replied in a letter dated August 1st, “I like your article for Gnostica. It is very clear and concise, with no nonsense. It’s good.” Grady also decided to release the article as an official form letter titled “Aleister Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis” and he printed it on OTO Letterhead. It was dated July 9th 1974. Grady would send copies of letter to anyone who wrote asking for information about the OTO. The entire purpose of the original article was to express his official position about the OTO, give a little history and review briefly the Caliphate letters. In fact, this was the very first place that the Caliphate letters ever publicly appeared. About these documents Grady wrote, “Aleister Crowley gave me a number of Instructions in writing concerning this high office. These are known as The Caliphate Letters. After all, Aleister Crowley would know that a successor to the Prophet in an Oriental Order would be a Caliph.” ... This letter is mentioned in Volume II of RED FLAME, A Thelemic Research Journal; IN THE NAME OF THE BEAST, A Biography of Grady Louis McMurtry,  disciple of Aleister Edward Crowley, 1962-1985, pgs. 109-111. ... We wish to thank Frater Petros for typesetting and proofing this original letter and making it possible for our readers to get a rare glimpse into early Grady.

9:20am For the history buffs: The Order of the Garter was founded by Edward the Third on this date in 1344. Many believe that Edward was a ‘witch’ and that the ‘Garter’ was really a witchcraft order. Others, however, have stated that the Order was created in 1348, that it had nothing to do with witchcraft and they point out that the garter was merely a ‘sanitary towel.’ …...…. Also, Edgar Allan Poe was born on this date in 1809. His poem, The Raven, has forever associated Poe’s name with the reputation of being the black-feathered literary master of the macabre. Throughout the 1830s and 40s Edgar Allen Poe worked on various magazines in and around Richmond, Philadelphia and New York, while publishing his disturbing short stories and poems, like The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado and The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the latter of which is widely considered by many to be the first modern detective story. Poe was never a healthy man, while always being a heavy drinker. He died at the age of 40 under very mysterious circumstances. In regards to Edgar Allan Poe; H. P. Lovecraft wrote, “his elevation of disease, perversity, and decay to the level of artistically expressable themes was infinitely far reaching in effect.” …...…. And Dorothy Clutterbuck was born on this date in Bengal, India in 1880. She was the daughter of Ellen Anne Morgan and Capt. Thomas St Quintin Clutterbuck who was serving with the 14th Sikhs Regiment. In the early 1930s her family moved back to England where she would marry and become known as Dorothy Fordham. She is perhaps the most elusive and secretive of all witches to have figured in the rise of the modern era of witchcraft. She was the High Priestess of a coven of hereditary witches in the New Forest of England who was responsible for initiating Gerald Gardner into Witchcraft in 1939. The coven claimed a direct descent from one of the ‘Nine Covens’ founded by Old George Pickingill. Dorthy died on January 12, 1951 of “cerebral thrombosis, a stroke.” …...…. And also important to mention is the fact that Brion Gysin was born on this date in Taplow, Buckinghamshire in 1916. He was educated in England, at Downside College. Afterwards he moved to Paris where he studied at the Sorbonne and met such renowned members of the Surrealist group, including Max Ernst, Salvador and Gala Dali and Picasso. Gysin’s work was included in the 1935 Surrealist Drawings exhibition in Paris. Three years later his journey to the Algerian Sahara would have a deep and lasting influence on his life. In 1953, having returned to North Africa, Gysin opened the ‘Thousand and One Nights’ restaurant, where the Master Musicians of Joujouka played an ‘extended residency.’ He later spent a number of his years in Paris where, with William Burroughs, they both developed the cut-up technique of writing and experimented with tapes, permutations and the creation of a Dream Machine. Brion Gysin died in Paris in July of 1986. …...…. And finally, it would be negligent of me if I didn’t mention that Bhagwan or Lord Rajneesh was born Rajneesh Chandra Mohan in 1931 in a small village near Jabalput, India and he died on January 19, 1990 in Poona, India of a heart attack at the age of 58. Although taken seriously by some, he was a joke to many. After fleeing India in 1981 he acquired a 64,000-acre farm near Antelope, Oregon and turned it into his new spiritual haven which he called ‘Jajneeshpuram.’ However, his antics began fueling bizarre news stories; like how he had accumulated an absurd number of Rolls Royces from his followers, ninety-six to be exact. Unfortunately his city was doomed. It collapsed amidst rumors of militaristic ‘zombie-like’ paranoia, drugs, sexual debauchery, attempted murder, arson, wiretapping and numerous other charges. In the end Rajneesh was expelled from America. He returned to India. After his death in 1990 the Los Angeles Times referred to his final ashram and posthumous empire in India as having been taken over by financial opportunists, who have turned it into a resort for stressed out Western executives. The newspaper referred to it “Club Meditation.”

Sunday January 18th 2009 – 8:10pm Ricky writes - "Jerry 93, Some notes on ON that I wish to share with you. I still am not grasping the use of the formula within myself. It would seem that ON (being the name of 'Our Lord the Sun' is inherent in Tipharet, united and in full. In descending from there it must split (into male and female) moving to Hod and Netzach respectively. The combination of these, or their Child, is in Samekh, the forces combined or in their purest form.  Thus it is the influence of our Angel into the Consciousness from Subconsciousness. Is this what is meant by "no more disturbances on the lower planes" becoming 'in tune' with the messages being sent by ones daimon? If this is so then it is a glyph of the Great Work in Tipharet! Aha! It is a continuous glyph of Union on all sides! So far at least.  I know that there is so much more to the word than this, so much that I will probably be working out other details of it for some time to come. I just want to make sure I'm not making a wrong turn so far. 93 93/93 Ricky." .......... Reply: The full formula cannot be grasped until you're at least a VIIth Degree OTO initiate wherein you learn the secrets of what really occurs 'within' the Minerval Tent and you can become an utter of the Word. A clue; the Minerval Degree works out of the sphere of Chockmah. ... Ricky, I know you're not that high up in Order as yet so to try to explain the symbolism as to how the Formula of ON works would all but be impossible in such a short blog.

1:15pm I was heading to the Mediterranean Cafe on Telegraph Avenue to meet up with Ben, Jay and Jennifer when out of the blue I heard some sweat little voice scream – “Jerry!” I turned and it was Aisha. She brought great smiles to my heart. I haven’t seen her, or heard from her in ages. She use to post a lot on this blog but fell off the Earth for awhile. Anyway, she’s back from Tokyo and living with her family in L.A., she’s up here for the holiday and she says ‘Hi!” to everyone.

11:08am I replied to an email - "Yes, I have I heard the same comment made by the ex-Thelema Lodge OTO initiate; a toad-like fat man named Jeffrey Summers whom I hear has found the need to trash me as heir to Grady's Caliphate. I once considered him a friend but his legacy and proper title is that of 'back-stabber.' Anyone who has known me over the years will attest that I am warrior; not just after work, not when I have free time but EVERY MOMENT OF MY LIFE! I have no problem rallying the troops with lawsuit against any adversary as attested by my past; I stand by the Law of the New Aeon with both my Words and my fist. I am a fighter on all planes. This is the qualification of a Caliph! If you are a weekend-warrior or a coward then the sword of the Caliphate will never be grabbed by your hands. And if you're like Jeffrey, your hands will hold only food and little more. Beside, if you knew the truth behind Grady McMurtry and my relationship, there would be little doubt in your mind that he didn't groomed me for the role." ...... I would now like to add that the Caliphate's main purpose is to 'grab the sword' and defend the Law of the New Aeon. I can groom many individual's for this role in my A.'.A.'. lineage but, in truth, only a warrior can grab the sword when the time is right.

7:06am There is an upcoming showing of the TRANCE SURREALIST ARTWORK by Luna ... Reception: Saturday, January 31, 4:00-7:00 pm, with music and poetry performances (show itself runs through February 16) Luna, a trance-medium artist based in the Bay Area, has brought her eclectic color-pencil drawings and collage work to us here at The Sacred Well. Luna has been a regular participant in the Bay Area pagan/magick community since 1973. Ever since she received her first Thoth deck from Chandria and Grady, Luna has drawn great inspiration from Lady Frieda Harris's artwork on the cards. Now she passes the inspiration along by sharing her artwork with us. [The Sacred Well, 536 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, 510.444.WELL (9355) www.sacredwell.com] ... We’ll be reposting this entry on 26th and leaving it at the top of our blog until the 31st. This will help remind you that if you don’t at least drop in and say hi you’ll be turned into a toad ... and not one that will be sent to a French restaurant. That death will be too swift. You'll be changed into a psychoactive toad. You'll wake up to find yourself in some fat, ugly salivating hippie's apartment where he and his friends will lick you over and over and over again until you die; all in their quest to get high. Or maybe not, it could be a French restaurant  ... in any case, be sure to show up and support Luna!

7:00am For the history buffs: Quite a cast of characters celebrate their birthday today; for starters the French mystic Louis Claude de Saint-Martin, better known by his pen-name ‘le philosophe inconnu (The Unknown Philosopher) was born on this date in Amboise in the French province of Touraine in 1743. After a short carrier as lawyer he joined the army. He became an officer. He became very active in Free-Masonry and later resigned his commission to become a disciple and the private Secretary of Martines de Pasqually whom he assisted in organizing a new system of High Masonic Degrees. Saint-Martin published many books during his life: On Errors and the Truth (1775), Natural Table of Correspondences Which Exist Between God, Man and the Universe (1778), The Man of Aspiration (1790), Ecce Homo (1792), The New Man (1792), The Spirit of Things (1800) followed by his masterpiece of philosophical synthesis, The Ministry of the Man-Spirit (1802), to name but a few. He died quietly on October 13, 1803 in Aunay. …...…. and speaking of odd gentleman, Joseph-Antoine Boullan was born on this date in 1824.  He seems to have been fascinated by the human excretory organs and their functions. He often participated in rites that were ‘scatological’ in nature. Boullan took over the Satanic Church of Carmel in 1875 after the death of its founder Pierre-Michael Eugene Vintras on December 7th. It is written that “documents survive showing that Boullan and his followers of The Church of Carmel engaged in, or thought they engaged in copulation with angels, cherubim, seraphim and the spirits of famous people like Cleopatra and Alexander the Great.” Boullan died on January 4, 1893 at the climax of a ‘Battle of the Magicians’ between the Church of Carmel and the Kabbalistic Order of the Rose Croix which was run by his old foe Stanislas de Guaita. …...…. and keeping with the theme, Alfred Percy Sinnett was born on this date in London in 1840. He would become the Theosophical Society’s vice-president. He wrote The Occult World (1881) and Esoteric Buddhism (1883). He died in 1921. …...…. but most important to mention is Robert Anton Wilson, he was born on this date in Brooklyn, New York in 1932. He claimed that he had entered Chapel Perilous “quite casually one day in 1971 while reading The Book of Lies by the English mystic Aleister Crowley ... in a ‘blinding flash’ or at least a mini-Satori, I knew Crowley’s secret.” Although Wilson has written many books, the one he coauthor with Robert Shea titled Illuminatus! Trilogy (1975) has become an  underground classic. A few of his other most notable books are The Cosmic Trigger (1977), Schrodinger’s Cat (1979), The New Inquisition (1986), Right Where You Are Sitting Now (1992) and Prometheus Rising (1994). In regards to The Cosmic Trigger, Wilson once wrote, “From the date of the first printing to the present, I have received more mail about Cosmic Trigger than about anything else I ever wrote, and most of this mail has been unusually intelligent and open-minded. For some reason, many readers of this book think they can write to me intimately and without fear, about subjects officially Taboo in our society. I have learned a great deal from the correspondence, and have met some wonderful new friends.” Robert Anton Wilson died on January 11th 2007 after a long illness. …...…. and finally, to round off today’s cast of characters, I’d like to point out that Michael Paul Bertiaux was born on this date in Seattle Washington in 1935. He was consecrated a Bishop on January 18th 1966 by Hector-Francois Jean-Maine (born 1924) who was a Bishop of the L’Eglise Spirite Albigeoise and an initiate of the Haitian voodoo tradition. Michael Bertiaux’s responsibility was to disseminate Jean-Maine’s teachings to the white population of America. When once asked by a reporter if he was a black magician, Bertiaux simply replied, “yes ... but black magic is merely a sensational term designed to keep the frivolous away and create barriers.” Bertiaux is the author of the Voudon Gnostic Workbook (1988)

Saturday January 17th 2009 – 9:35am For the history buffs: Nicolas Flamel, the noted French Alchemist, successfully turned mercury into silver on his very first attempt during an alchemical experiment on this date in 1382, or so he claimed. …...…. Also, Sir Francis Dashwood of the ‘Hellfire club’ would often toast to “Brother Benjamin, who remained our friend and secret ally all the time he was in the enemy camp,” or so Dashwood’s illegitimate daughter later said. She also claimed that this gentleman, or Brother Benjamin, had sent numerous ‘intelligence’ to London by devious routes and by courier from France. With this as only part of the evidence, some historians claim that she was referring to Benjamin Franklin, who was born on this date in 1706, as being the person who sold American Revolutionary secrets to the British and who was not as patriotic as some would like to believe. …...…. also, Harry Price was born on this date in Shrewsbury, England in 1881. His interest in the paranormal began in 1889 when he saw his first performance by a stage magician. From that point on he became an amateur conjurer and collecting what would become an immense library of books on magic. He was known as Britain’s most famous ghost investigator and the founder of the National Laboratory of Psychical Research in 1923. He spent many hours at alleged haunted houses and in the investigation of Spiritualist and mediums. He turned his investigation into the haunting at the infamous Borley Rectory into two books titled The Most Haunted House In England (1940) and The End of Borley Rectory (1946). Both books became very popular and entrenched Price solidly as the organizer of well-run paranormal investigations. Harry Price died in March of 1948 at his home in Pulborough, West Sussex. …...…. also, on this date in 1971, the ‘Duke of Madness Motors’ skit on their Dear Friends album was recorded. It was one of my all time favorite. It’s about Aleister Crowley selling used cars on the edge of the Abyss. …...…. and finally, on this date in 1996 Phil Schneider was found strangled in his hospital bed with a catheter wrapped around his neck. Needless-to-say, the circumstances of his death are highly suspicious, if not controversial and some believe that he was murdered. However, the government’s position was that it was an ‘accident.’ Schneider was a self-taught geologist and explosive expert who supposedly worked on many of the U.S. government’s ‘deep underground facilities’ after World War II. One of the bases that he worked on was the secret facility outside Dulce, New Mexico where, according to Schneider, UFO ‘greys’ or humanoid extraterrestrials worked side by side with American technicians. UFO theorists claim, if Schneider was telling the truth, then he obviously broke the code of imposed silence and the penalty for that blunder was presumably termination  by ‘accident.’

12:00pm Weiser Antiquarian Books Catalog Fifty-One - Dion Fortune & the Inner Light; Click HERE to view it. ... Most people reading this are probably already familiar with the details of Dion Fortune's life and works, but for those who aren't, she was born Violet Mary Firth, to a Yorkshire family then living in Wales, in December 1890. From a young age Fortune was said to have manifested strong psychic talents, but her youthful interest lay mainly in the then-nascent field of psychology, and it was not until her mid-twenties that she became seriously involved in the study of the occult. She quickly immersed herself in esoteric studies, joining the Theosophical Society and an offshoot of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, before founding her own esoteric group. This she named the Community (later renamed Fraternity and then Society) of the Inner Light. The group thrived in the late 1920s and throughout the 1930s, although its activities were reduced - and refocused - during the Second World War. Unlike many such groups it survived the dark days that followed its founder's untimely death in January 1946, and continues to this day as a working initiatory organization. ... Dion Fortune was a prolific writer and produced a considerable body of literature during her relatively short life. Books such as her practical and straightforward guide to the Kabalah: The Mystical Qabalah, her "received" book The Cosmic Doctrine, and Psychic Self-Defense, remain bestsellers, and she is also remembered for her occult fiction: Moon Magic, The Sea Priestess, The Winged Bull, etc., all of which remain popular. ... This catalog contains representative examples of most of Dion Fortune's major works, from modern paper reprints through to scarce early editions. Amongst the latter are a First Edition of Dion Fortune's first published novel, The Demon Lover (1927), the first (Privately Published) edition of the novel that she considered to be her best: The Sea Priestess (1938), and a First Edition, in the scarce dustjacket, of her novel of black magic and obsession, The Winged Bull (1935). Several of the other early editions of works of her works that are listed have an interesting association, in that they once belonged to Edward Noel Fitzgerald (1908-1958), a IX degree member of the O.T.O., and friend and follower of Aleister Crowley's, who also had a short involvment with the Fraternity of the Inner Light in the mid-1940s. ... Also unusual - although nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as those early works - is a typescript "edition" of The Esoteric Orders and Their Work, Privately Published by The Society of the Inner Light for use within the order during the immediate postwar period when ongoing rationing prevented the "proper" republication of many books and out-of-print copies were hard to find. Two somewhat later typescript-like productions are actually the First US printings of Through the Gates of Death (1966), and The Training and Work of an Initiate (1967) both of which were published by Dorothy B. Hughes (1904 - 1993) the American crime-writer and critic who presumably had a passion for Fortune's work. At the time of their release the reawakening of interest in the occult and mysticism that accompanied the growth of the sixties counter culture was only just starting to blossom, which probably explains why the books had to be quasi-privately published in this rather basic format. ... From October 1927 until August 1940, when wartime paper shortages brought about the suspension of publication, Dion Fortune's group produced a monthly house journal, The Inner Light. Fortune was not only the journal's Editor but it's chief contributor: it is no exaggeration to say that many of her important occult writings first appeared in the journal's pages, usually in serial form, and often with significant textual differences from the later collected versions. It also included numerous essays, articles, book reviews etc., many of which appear to have never been reprinted. As The Inner Light was generally only made available to members or associate members of The Fraternity, it had a relatively small print run, and issues are seldom seen. The second section of the catalog comprises an unusually good collection of issues of this scarce journal.  ... Aside from her own books and The Inner Light, Dion Fortune also contributed essays, letters and reviews to a number of other journals, such as The Occult Review. The third section of the catalog comprises a small selection of these, dating from 1926 to 1932. The fourth section lists a group of audio cassettes with readings of a number of her Dr. Taverner stories by actor John Carradine, whilst the final section list a short number of biographical and other studies of Fortune.

10:00am Rickly writes, “Jerry 93, If I understand the formula of ON correctly, it would be what one is aspiring to in OTO. The articulation of the 'Sanctuary of Gnosis' of the IXth degree. Do you mean to say OTO no longer initiates into its own highest Mystery? I would hope this wasn't the case. Your remarks about Aleph though are amazing! I never made that connection! It sheds much light on the book. What I was meaning with samekh was the Art card in the Book of Thoth. It would seem that it is the child of ON. Is this an incorrect idea? 93 93\93 Ricky.” ........ Reply: Sadly, it’s a very complicated Formula to simply write in a ‘nutshell’ ... remember, Crowley wrote an entire book [i.e. Liber Alph] on obtaining to its secrets from A to Z, or is that from ‘O’ to ‘N’ ???  Anyway, about OTO, yes, they absolutely no longer teach Crowley’s inner core teachings regarding ON. In fact; they have ‘redesigned’ the entire Hermit Order to reflect Dave Scriven and Bill Breeze’s new teachings, with new initiations and pure Masonic clap-trap. I know this to be true because I was in the Hermetic Order for over 27 years and I adamantly fought against the revisionist but they are all ex-Mottaites and the idea of learning anything from Grady McMurtry’s A.’.A.’. has never sat well with them. Its easier to simply re-invent new secrets rather than admit that you never knew the old ones. ... As for 'the child of ON' ... bravo; most of my own students don't catch that. I always thought it was so obvious ... especially if you know the formula of ON which unites the left and right pillars.

9:45am For the history buffs: According to the actual Membership List of the Golden Dawn Aleister Crowley was initiated as an Adeptus Minor by MacGregor Mathers, or Frater Deo Duce Comite Ferro, in Paris on this date in 1900 and not as he remembers on February 20th, although he does get the year correct.  Crowley took the magical motto of Parzival. …...…. The story of the ‘New Jersey Devil’ which was seen by over 1,000 people between January 16 to the 23rd 1909 is very well documented. It began when Thack Cozzens of Woodbury saw a flying creature with glowing eyes flying down the street. Further down in Bristol, John Mcowen heard and saw the creature on the banks of the canal. A patrolman named James Sackville even fired at the creature as it flew away screaming, while E.W. Minister, the Postmaster of Bristol, saw a bird-like creature with a horse’s head that had a piercing scream. When daylight came the residents of Bristol found hoof prints in the snow. Two local trappers said they had never seen tracks like those before. On the following day the Lowdens of Burlington found hoof prints in their yard and around their trash, which was half eaten. Almost every yard in Burlington had these strange hoof prints in them. The prints went up trees, went from roof to roof, disappeared in the middle of the road, and stopped in the middle of open fields. The same tracks were also found in Columbus, Hedding, Kinhora and Rancocas. A hunt was organized to follow the tracks but the dogs wouldn’t follow the trail. …...…. Also of note; Edith Starr Miller, better known by her title of Lady Queenborough, died in Paris, France on this date in 1933. Her name is often linked with the Order of the Golden Dawn and the British Fascist movement. She wrote only three books during her life. The first was called Common Sense in the Kitchen (1918), the second was titled Occult Theocrasy and published posthumously in France in 1933 and a third was simply called Judaism. Without fully realizing it, her book Occult Theocrasy relied heavily on the published works of self-described 33° freemason, Domenico Margiotta, along with the infamous hoaxers Dr. Karl Hacks and the anti-Mason Leo Taxil, Diana Vaughan and Dr. Bataille, which means that all the facts in her book are suspect. …...…. And finally, Bruce King who was born in Chicago IL on July 22, 1897, died on this date in 1976. He was a well known author who published works on astrology under the Pseudonym of Zolar. He wrote the classic book The Lure of the Heavens, A History of Astrology (1972). In seems shortly before King died in 1972 he called Dr. R. Donald Papon to his apartment, held his hand, and told him that he will be the “next Zolar.”

Thursday January 15th 2009 –  10:35am Ricky writes - "Jerry 93! Since you posted the last part of 'Tales from the Caliph' I have been studying the formula of the ON. I can't seem to find where Crowley explains it, except the few chapters in Liber Aleph on Death and the Devil trumps, and I believe I am starting to understand why its not readily available. What I have to ask about is its relevance to Samekh. It would seem that the Art trump in the Book of Thoth is a rather graphic explanation of the formula of ON. But is it an explanation of the 'formula in motion' or the end it produces? Any way basically what I have beside the 'practical' application referred to in the Book of Thoth, is that it is a uniting of opposites and a glyph of the Great Work. Am I on the right track? Or could you elucidate this formula for me? 93 93/93 Ricky." ........ Reply: As the story goes; in 1910 Aleister Crowley met a German gentleman named Theodor Reuss who was the OHO or 'Outer Head of the Order' of the German-based organization called the Ordo Templi Orientis and he joined the Order. ... Then in New York, on July 8th 1916, Crowley and his Scarlet Woman Soror Hilarion attempted to create a 'Magickal Child' using the OTO methods. It was Crowley's intention, or belief that he needed to find an heir to assume his magickal throne. It is a complicated story but, in time, the child turned out to be none other than Frater Achad. It seems, unbeknownst to the Beast, during the previous month on June 21st 1916 Frater Achad had taken the magical Oath of a Magister Templi [without telling him]. This meant that he vowed to interpret everything which occurred to him as a particular dealing of his God with his own soul, thus throwing himself into the Abyss as a 'child'. Hence, becoming Crowley's 'magickal son.' ... Then by 1918 we find Crowley with a new Scarlet Woman; her name was Roddie Minor, or Sister Achitha. While living with her, Crowley began writing Liber Aleph as an Epistle to his new 'Son', Frater Achad. It was finished in 1918 and was never meant to be published. It was his private Magickal Teachings to his son ... Karl Germer, the idiot, published it in 1962, years after Crowley's death. ... I know this all to be true because I heard it directly from Grady McMurtry; being Crowley's heir, Grady was taught the truth about Liber Aleph and, me being Grady's heir, he taught me. I have vivid memories of Grady leaning forward holding Liber Aleph, chuckling and asking me, “Have you ever wondered why so many chapters in this book are titled ‘On’ such and such?” A lightning bolt of realization immediately struck me. He then laughed, “Does this blow your mind?” I must confess, it did. .... I would later published alot of what Grady taught me about the secrets found in Liber Aleph in Red Flame, A Thelemic Research Journal No.7 ... since the O.T.O. 'officially' decided to discard the info and no longer teach it it favor of spreading Masonic clap-trap. ... as far as looking toward Liber Samech or The Book of Thoth; they won't help much in understanding the formula of ON.

10:25am For the history buffs: Tom Longstaff, the famous mountain climber and President of the Alpine Club, was born on this date in 1875. In his biography titled This My Voyage (1950) he wrote that his old friend Aleister Crowley “was a fine climber, if an unconventional one. I have seen him go up the dangerous and difficult right (true) side of the great ice fall of the Mer de Glace below the Geant alone, just for a promenade. Probably the first and perhaps the only time this mad, dangerous and difficult route had been taken.” He died in Scotland on June 27, 1964 at the age of 89. …...…. and the only other thing I’d like to mention is that on this date in 1947 a corpse was discovered which began one of the most famous unsolved murders cases in the history of Hollywood - the Black Dahlia. The woman’s real name was Elizabeth Short. Her nude body was discovered in an empty lot in two separate pieces. It had been bisected in half at the waist and drained of all its blood. The body was also covered with numerous mutilations, cigarette burns and her mouth was cut wide open from corner to corner as if to give some frightful smile.

5:45am Doctor's apointment, other visits and lots of etcs got me tied up yesterday as well as the better part of today. It has thrown me way behind in everything from answering emails to posting on this blog ..... auggghhhhhhhhhhh!  Mea culpa!
