~ JANUARY 22nd - 31st 2009 ~
Saturday January 31st 2009 - 3:35pm - I am starting a special MEMORIAL PAGE for Steven Cohen. I was there when Steve was initiated into Aleister Crowley's O.T.O. back in the early 1990s. I have considered him a friend ever since. He was gentle soul, a person who is hard to forget if you ever met him. I've been working on the memorial page design with photos etc all morning. If you knew Steve and would like to write a brief paragraph about your memories please feel free to submit at : Cornelius93@aol.com.
3:30pm I know, I'm moving slow today. I was forced to attend a 99 cent heated sake drink off at the Japanese Karaoke Restaurant across the street from my house. I think I survived but I was forced to spend the morning cleaning my apartment and sweaping up brain cells. Anyway, Jay, who was there last night, sent me an email about his girlfriend - "... the drink for drink has taken its toll on Jen. When we went to Dave's she pormtly threw up for about an hour then passed out on the couch. I had to leave my poor Jennies there. One thing seems to be certain, partying with Thelemites certainly seems to make one stronger." ... She seems to be the only causality so far .... I hope she feels better. ... Ya, we are a hardened lot! Any word from Ben? (hee hee)
3:15pm Mari writes - "Dear Jerry I'm sorry that you lost your friend. It's a great sadness all the time to say good-bye to the loved one. We know we'll see each other again when we leave our physical bodies in the future as well as they did, however, until then, it's quite heart breaking moment we have to pass through. Now, your friend was free from any kind of sufferings with his physical body. Please take good care of yourself. Your friend is fine in the heaven. Sincerely, Maria."
3:00pm Today is the TRANCE SURREALIST ARTWORK showing by Luna ... Reception: Saturday, January 31, 4:00-7:00 pm, with music and poetry performances (show itself runs through February 16) Luna, a trance-medium artist based in the Bay Area, has brought her eclectic color-pencil drawings and collage work to us here at The Sacred Well. Luna has been a regular participant in the Bay Area pagan/magick community since 1973. Ever since she received her first Thoth deck from Chandria and Grady, Luna has drawn great inspiration from Lady Frieda Harris's artwork on the cards. Now she passes the inspiration along by sharing her artwork with us. At The Sacred Well, 536 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94610.
10:15am It is with great sadness that I report the passing of an old friend. I received this from Luna - "Dear Friends of Steven J. Cohen! 93!
Our magical eccentric friend, Steven J. Cohen aka Shadow Igitur died tonight at 6:51pm.
He was surrounded by the women of his family. His mother, Babe. His sister, Andy. His two neices, and myself.
We circled around his bed at Moffitt Hospital and took turns reading from: "Thirty-One Hymns To The Star Goddess" by Frater Achad.
poem XX1 from the book: Not
Three Eternites are passed . . . I have out-stripped a million Stars in my race across Thy Breast ---The Milky Way.
When shall I come to the Secret Centre of They Being?
Time, thou thief, why dost thor rob the hungry babe? Space, thou hadst
almost deceived me.
Oh Lady Nuit, let me not confound the space-marks!
Then, O Beloved, Thy Word came unto me, as it is written: "All touching; All penetrant."
Thus left I Time and Space and Circumstance, and every Star became as an atom in
my Body, when it became Thy Body. Now never shall I be known, for it is I that go.
But Thou, Beloved, though Thou art infinitely Great, art Thou not energized by
the Invisible Point -- the Infinitely Small?
A Million Eternities are Present. Deem
not of Change; This is the
Here and Now,
and I am
NOT
All Hail the Goddess Nuit
Whose Number is 156
All Hail Shadow Igitur
who left his mortal body
at: 6:51pm, Jan. 30th 2009.
His family has given us the blessing to transmute his entire library into a "Steven J. Cohen Memorial Library"...and the Great Work continues.

January 30th 2009 – 6:45am For the history buffs: Ivan T. Sanderson was born on this date in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1911. In his early career Sanderson was a nature writer but soon became an enthusiastic Fortean author; devoting the majority of all his later books and articles to mysterious phenomena of all kinds from strange monsters, sea serpents to Bigfoot. He was the founder of The Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained. Some of his most notable books were Uninvited Visitors (1967), Things (1967), More Things (1969), Invisible Residents (1970) and Investigating the Unexplained (1972). He died on February 19, 1973 of cancer at the age of 62. …...… also, Zsusanna Budapest (aka Zsusanna Mokcsay) was born on this date in Budapest, Hungary in 1940. She is a Wiccan psychic in San Francisco and a prolific author on the topic of female spirituality. She has authored of such books as Grandmother Moon (1991), The Goddess in the Office (1993), The Goddess in the Bedroom (1995) and The Holy Book of Women’s Mysteries (1989).
Thursday January 29th 2009 – 9:20am Ricky writes - "I was wondering, to what method of astrology do you subscribe, sidereal, tropical? What are the basic differences? And finally could you point me to a good reference book to learn this science?" .......... Actually, I lean toward tropical. Admittedly, Sidereal astrology is the far older system. It is based on where the constellations are physically located when viewed from earth at the time of birth. This system is now mainly used in Hindu astrology. On the other hand, when tropical was being developed by the Babylonians the Sun on the first day of Spring (Equinox) was around the first degree of Aries and so logically, to them, all the other constellations would follow in order. If I had to sum up the difference in a nutshell I would say that sidereal zodiac is mainly used by eastern astrologers while the tropical zodiac is mainly used by western astrologers. ... The house system that I use to formulate all my astrological charts is the Koch house system (pronounced ‘coke’). It was developed by Dr. Walter Koch in cooperation with H. Specht and others in the early sixties and it was published in 1971; or after Koch’s death on February 25th 1970. During his lifetime Koch was a noted teacher, psychic, traditional astrologer, Tarot card reader and author. He was born on September 18, 1895 at 6:25am in Esslingen, Württemberg, Germany. He studied at the University of Tübingen (Ph.D., 1920), was scientific adviser to the Association of German Astrologers and leader of the investigation circle of the Cosmobiosophical Association in Hamburg. The Koch system, often referred to as the ‘Birth Place’ house system, also uses the notion of time dictated by most systems but instead of starting its calculations from the Ascendant as does the Placidus, its calculations begin from the MidHeaven (MC) and sweep downward clockwise. Arguably the main difference in the two systems is that the Ascendant is more important in the Placidus system while the MidHeaven is Key in the Koch. How to understand and define the interpretational difference is that magickally we know that the human ego is dual in nature; rooted in the Qabalistic sphere known as Tiphereth (Sun) on the Tree of Life and is bathed in the above and below. Many astrologers will tell you that the Ascendant or First House rules one’s Ego but, in truth, it rules only the Ego (and images) as presented by the person outwardly into the world; or magickally from the point of the Lower Self or personality in the lower half of Tiphereth. The MidHeaven, on the other hand, is also linked to the Ego; but in this case it not only signifies the image that one presents to the world but more so what internally drives us forward in our incarnation; our ambitions, goals and the direction we take along the path of life that we often conceal from others. It emphasizes a person’s quest for freedom to do their will, or magickally their True Will which is the purpose behind one’s incarnation. For this reason it is seen from the point of the Higher Self found within the upper half of Tiphereth.
6:30am To last nights 7:45pm posting blasting Obama, Mike writes a tome, part of which says - "Give him a chance. Its all the democrats faults for not following his 'change' policy', not his." ... Reply: I agree but the buck stops with him; isn't that what they did with Bush? Dump all the ills of the Republican Senate & House on his doorstep? When Bush was in office everything was 'his' fault because 'he was the President.' If Obama vetoes the bill and orders it rewritten I’ll change my views, otherwise Obama blows! I stand by my views.
6:15am For the history buffs: Jeanne de Anges died peaceably on this date in 1665. She was a Nun of an Ursuline convent in Loudun, France. Some thirty years earlier her demonic possession was considered by some to be the most classic case in the annals of European witchcraft history. The priest in charge of the convent, Urbain Grandier, was accused of bewitching her with the aid of the demon Asmodeus, to compel her to ‘think and do’ impure thoughts. Under torture Grandier supposedly confessed and was burned alive in 1634. …...… also, Emanuel Swedenborg was born as Emanuel Swedberg (or Svedberg) on this date in Stockholm, Sweden in 1688. He was an inventor, author, philosopher and mystic who devoted his life to studying the Holy Scripture and publishing eighteen theological titles. These works present a unique Christian perspective on the nature of God, the spiritual world around us, the human mind and the path to salvation. He was also deeply involved in FreeMasonry and established what is now called the Swedenborgian Rite. Aleister Crowley was so impressed by his writings that he personally believed Swedenborg was at least an Adeptus Exemptus since he had published his thesis on the ‘nebular hypothesis’ to explain the birth of the planets and the universe. Swedenborg died in London on March 29th, 1772, at the age of eighty-four. …...… but on a more serious note; the comic actor William Claude Dukenfield was born on this date in Philadelphia in 1880. He later changed his name to W. C. Fields. He was legendary for his dislike of small children and dogs; he was also an alcoholic famous for such quotes as “Everyone must believe in something. I believe I’ll have another drink.” Throughout his life Fields despised religions, observing that “...more people are driven insane through religious hysteria than by drinking alcohol.” In the end one of the last people to see him alive was his friend and fellow actor Thomas Mitchell. Standing next to the bed Mitchell noticed a small black book protruding out from under the blanket. Upon investigation he saw that it was The Holy Bible. Astonished, he asked Fields, “Your reading the Bible, Bill. Why?” Fields, in his typical dry manner, simply looked up and replied, “I was looking for loopholes.” In a last bit of irony, Fields died in 1946 on the one holiday that he despised the most Christmas. ……. And finally, solely for my own amusement, I’d like to mention that on this date in 1979, it being a Monday morning, seventeen year old Brenda Spencer of San Diego California took up a position outside the Cleveland Elementary School and waited for the principal to unlock the front doors. She was armed with a .22 semi-automatic and 500 rounds of ammo which was given too her as a loving Christmas gift by her father. When the children started showing up, Brenda opened fire. For 20 minutes she had the students, teachers, and even the crossing guard pinned down. In that time she managed to kill the Principal and school caretaker, also injuring nine kids, aged between 6 and 12. Once tired of the game, she simply went home and waited for the police. The only explanation she could give for her actions was: “I just started shooting, that’s it. I just did it for the fun of it. I just don’t like Mondays. ... I just did it because it’s a way to cheer the day up. Nobody likes Mondays.” Her story inspired the classic 1980 song titled “I don’t like Mondays” by the Irish band known as the Boomtown Rats.

And all the playing's stopped in the playground now

She wants to play with the toys a while

And school's out early and soon we'll be learning

And the lesson today is how to die
Wednesday January 28th 2009 – 7:45pm Well, I don't like to banter politics on this blog but I'm pissed. The Democratic-controlled House approved the $819 billion economic stimulus bill containing emergency spending urged by President Barack Obama. It was passed by all Democrats while all Republicans oppose it because it's BUSINESS AS USUAl, there is no change, its all a lie. Obama blows! This bill has massive, I mean millions of dollars of pork belly spending tacked on by JUST the Democrats by 'Special Interests Groups' which Obama claimed would no longer control 'his' goverment. Yes, untold millions of tax payers dollars are being spent on personal projects which won't bail anyone out! So if this bail-out fails, don't blame the Republicans ... thank Obama ... he hasn't even been in office a month yet and his word ain't worth shit.
4:55pm An anonymous Pisces writes regarding my 8:30am posting - "I haven't once commented on the sex toys (you say Pisces--you must be talking to me...hehehe)!!! My first comment was on the water. Mmm...showers, oceans, lakes--ice cubes...I am smiling just thinking about it...but sex toys?? Uh...seriously, I thought in this day and age we all had those...this must mean that the reverse is true and that some signs dislike these items? That is more the point of intrigue to me. In fact, it is downright unfathomable!! I am shaking my head right now...no sex toys? *Does not compute*" .......... Reply: But aren't you now commenting on sex toys? ...... Anyway, my article discusses how Pisces, of all the signs, are more likely than not to 'have' sex toys, so you kinda prove my point. No? ... Also, I don't have any sex toys :/ Then again, maybe Cancers are sex toys?
8:45am Luna just sent an update on our dear friend Steven Cohen who suffered a heart attack last month. She writes - "93! Steven is doing so so today. On Monday night he took a bad turn. Yesterday he was unable to respond to us due to medicine to sedate him, but today he is better, and he is answering questions the nurse asks him. On Monday night he was willful and wished to tell us all his will. Last night Diana and I ran a lot of his energy by laying on of hands...it was extremely obvious that he was still in there and would come back as soon as he got some rest. His energy was very powerful and it nearly knocked out socks off. Diana spoke out saying: "Hey now Shadow! Who is healing who here?" The intent for today is to send him lots of cognitive energy to facilitate his will over the next few days. Other than that he seems to be ok with everything. Let's hang in there with him during this very important time. His mother arrives tomorrow. We will be reading passages from The Book of the Law, and from Liber 90 to him today. Love and 93s )O(." ............ I immediately lit a red candle on my altar to send him energy. I might suggest Liber AL II:21- "Think not, o king, upon that lie: That Thou Must Die: verily thou shalt not die, but live. Now let it be understood: If the body of the King dissolve, he shall remain in pure ecstasy for ever. Nuit! Hadit! Ra-Hoor-Khuit! The Sun, Strength & Sight, Light; these are for the servants of the Star & the Snake." .... I also threw the I-Ching asking what advice I should give us all. I received 42 YI - Increase: now's no time to sit and shiver, But to move on, even to cross the river." The moving line is the second - "Good omens and true virtue joined, essay." This is a good reading as it implies movement forward.
8:30am I also replied to Carl from Illinois - “Glad you enjoyed Cornelia 19 and ‘the sexual proclivities” ... the article is based on the same principle as studying Sun Signs. Although some of the information about your Sun Sign may reflect your ‘outer’ personality or mask which you present to others, there will always be that which doesn’t fit you in the least. This is because there are so many other aspects in your chart from Rising Sign to Planets, to Houses and aspects etc etc which fine tune your incarnation. Your sexual proclivities are the same. Although we can say a Pisces is such and such there are many other factors to consider in one’s quest of love; like which Houses and signs your Mars and Venus lies in and any aspects that they might have to other planets. And more important to consider is your upbringing and childhood religion, as well as friends etc who might influence you pre-puberty as to how you approach the opposite sex. .... I also like what you wrote after reading my article on Sexual Proclivities – “Great stuff. I have to admit that some of the things about Pisces I knew, some suddenly made sense and some things made me think that I need to go shopping (sex toys? Hmmm!).” ....... Did you know that our lineage has an abundance of Pisces, and even attract many Pisces friends and every single one of you who have read my article comment on my mentioning ‘sex toys’ above all else that I’ve written about your sign. Most find the ‘sex toy’ idea amusing; some claim no no, not me, while others, mostly the women, simply pull a ‘Pisces’ and do not want to talk about it. .... You added – “What suddenly made sense was the fact that Pisces find beautiful surroundings and aquatic things like waterfalls and lakes very sexually exciting. I remember my only relationship with another Pisces and it seems that we were naked in the woods by a gentle stream, or taking a shower together, more often than in most of the relationships I've had that have lasted many years longer. Ahh, memories...” ...... Yes, our minds are a terrible thing to waste. I’ve dated many signs over the years but Pisces has been elusive."
8:15am Carl from Illinois, not the Carl mention in this blog on 26th at 11:05am, writes - "I also wanted to say thanks for suggesting that we study Liber Aleph starting from the beginning. That is a book that is SO easy to jump around in because each chapter is like a bite sized little piece of wisdom and it covers such vast terrain. I've read it many times but... This time it will be from the start."
6:35am I received an email from my friend Mari, a cute Japanese woman, about my posting of the movie SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANJO, she writes, "For your reference, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minamoto_clan and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taira. Geji & Heike are famous rivals for each other. There were 4 powerful clans down from the Imperial family, Fujiwara( The most powerful in Politics because they used daughters to marry the Emperor), Tachibana( my family), Minamoto(Genji), Taira(Heike). Genji vs Heike is quite famous in classic stories. So, the film you watched is based on this rivals." .......... Another friend informed me that A Fistful of Dollars [see yesterday's 8:00pm posting] for which the movie Sukiyah Western Duraja was based was actually lifted from an earlier Japanese movie Yojimbo (1961). This is "Kurosawa's Japanese Western movie of the oft-retold tale of a sword-toting samurai in 1600s feudal Japan who finds himself without a master."
6:20am For the history heap: Not much to report today except for the fact that on this date in 1975 at 2:12pm, 'Billy' Eduard Albert Meier of Switzerland began a series of physical and telepathic contacts with extraterrestrial beings from the planet Erra in the Pleiades. One of the space women told him, “I am called Semjase.” Billy was even allowed to photograph her “beamship” during its flight maneuvers. He took over 1,000 of the clearest photos of extraterrestrial spacecraft ever seen, others disagree and argue that he took over 1,000 of the most obvious fraudulent photos ever taken. Be that as it may, since this date in 1989, Billy supposedly has had about four contacts a year with Ptaah, the father of Semjase as well as with other aliens .... but I'm not impressed; living here just off Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, California I can boast the same! They don't call this Bezerkeley for nothing; in fact, this city is held together by 'wing-nuts' on every corner who talk to aliens!
Tuesday January 27th 2009 – 8:00pm The latest movie that I bought on DVD which I'd like to recommend is SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANJO (Japanese 2007) I watched it tonight. This Takashi Miike film is based on Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars starring Clint Eastwood. This is Miike's first American feature, perversely cast with Japanese actors in 99 percent of the roles and instructed to speak in contorted English, rendering some of the dialogue indecipherable. The character played by Quentin Tarantino, who is named Ringo, is a lonesome gunslinger who engages in some mighty fancy gunplay concerning a rattlesnake and an egg in front of a blatantly false campfire and background. We then shift to a remote western town in Nevada named Yuta which is lorded over by two rival clans; a white clan named the Genji led by a cool, sleek, walking-manga illustration named Yoshitsune and a red clan named Heike which is led by the psychotic Kiyomori who insists that everyone call him Henry. It seems both clans are hunting for a hidden treasure in the nearby hills. At the height of their conflict a revolver-wielding gunman ‘with no name’ and burdened with deep emotional scars, but blessed with incredible shooting skills, comes to town. He plies his trade to both sides against each other while indirectly helping a prostitute get revenge on the warring gangs. This movie is bathed in dirty tricks, betrayal and love as the situation erupts into a final, explosive showdown with samurai sword lust, kung-fu barroom brawls, a gatling gun, dynamite and massive gun play, with blood, blood and more blood, which remains completely gripping despite the plot. My favorite scene occurs during a spectacular melee where a sawed off shotgun blasts a hole through one hombre's chest allowing another to take aim through the hole in order to shoot an arrow from a crossbow into another guy. What a shot!!! Click HERE for more details. ... If you like a good western, this is not it but if you want a demented Japanese Samurai transplant in cowboy costumes then you'll love this movie!
5:45am For the history buffs: The renowned Victorian author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson more commonly known by his pseudonym of Lewis Carroll was born on this date in 1832 in Daresbury, Cheshire, England, the son of a clergyman. Although multi-talented in many areas he achieved lasting fame as the author of Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871). He died in Guildford on January 14, 1898. …...…. and finally, John Francis Toye was born on this date in England in 1883. He was the cousin of the noted artist Gerald Kelly, whose sister Rose misguidedly married Aleister Crowley. Toye once wrote, “Of all the extraordinary people I met … undoubtedly the most extraordinary was Aleister Crowley. Crowley, like the author of Hadrian VII, whom in many ways he much resembled, was a genius gone wrong, with a remarkable talent for Browningesque verse, a soaring imagination, and a sense of humour altogether exceptional. Indeed, in retrospect, his sense of humour stands out as his most striking attribute.” He goes on to give an example of Crowley’s humor by telling us that when Crowley bought his estate in Scotland, on Loch Ness, he posted signs saying “Beware of the Ichthyosaurus!” and “The Donotheriums are out today!” John Francis Toye died in 1964.
Monday January 26th 2009 – 7:45pm Ricky writes, "Jerry 93, I understand what you say about 'pinning down' one specific meaning to the formula being dangerous. And I imagine I ran your patience thin with all my question, sorry about that. I just figured that if I am going to get anything at all out of this Order it would be best to understand Crowley's theory behind it. I know I don't yet posses the weapons in my arsenal to fully grasp it, and that is hopefully what the initiations will give me. Anyway thank you for all your help thus far. On a separate but yet related note I was contemplating initiation today and had some interesting thoughts. It would seem that initiation, in a way, tells a story and in respect to everyday life it has its parallel in, well, life itself. As life seems to be one big initiation.. What I mean is this, only when one has a new experience, (not talks or reads about it) only then can they relate this new part of themselves to the whole and thus understand their universe more fully. I imagine it is the same way with initiations in an order like OTO gradually unfold a story to explain their secrets. How is initiation in a vertical school different from this or what is the same? 93 93/93 Ricky." .......... Reply: No, you did not run my patience thin; you were actually articulate and asking good questions. ... Anyway, the distinction between Horizontal Schools versus Vertical Schools is direction; one deals with things 'outside' the Self while the other 'inside.' Yes, it is true, both have spiritual quests but where one has you place your 'Fraternal' Oaths to a mundane Order (and to specific people), the other has you place your 'Magickal' Oaths to Self and humanity. Horizontal Schools work primarily in establishing a foundation on Malkuth (Earth) and require what is known as 50/50. They promise you certain things in return for you giving 'them' certain things. In other words, they offer you a quest in return for obedience ... but both individual and Fraternity MUST keep their part of the bargain or the Quest is worthless; read An Open Epistle on Oaths. ... A Vertical School requires nothing of you, your quest is 100% toward Self but as in the case with all magick, you get out what you put in; yet what is requested of you in return is not toward the Order itself but toward humanity by assisting others on the Path.
11:05am To Carl who is "upset" that he sent an email a few weeks back and that I answered it on my blog but didn't tell him, so he misssed it - sorry but I don't reply to every email personally. Some I do, some I don't ... everyone knows, if you have a question it may well answer it on the blog.
11:00am Greig from England writes – “Hey Jerry, 93 I hope all is well with you in beautiful California? I have a wee question for you I was hoping you could answer. I was meditating on what it means to be born into a certain zodiacal sign. I realise that all the signs have different pluses and minuses, but do the signs represent a peaking and troughing of the soul in general? What I mean is, does the soul move through the signs in a progressive manner from incarnation to incarnation, thus gaining experience from the nature of each sign? If this is correct, would the soul be progressing upwards through a zodiacal spiral towards higher and higher consciousness or does it progress more randomly than that? I hope I have presented my question coherently! All the best, 93 93/93 Greig.” ......... Reply: There are some who believe that our Soul goes through a series of experiences from one life to the next; from Aries to Pisces but this often leads to the belief that a Pisces is better off than an Aries as we debate such in the pit of Because. If our Spirit incarnates in order to gain an experience to discern between good and evil; as the ancient believed, then depending upon how our previous incarnation ended would determine the next sign. I believe the order is random but not necessarily something that is determined merely by a Sun sign as much as our entire chart. In other words; being born a ‘particular’ Sun sign is not as important as ALL the factors within the birth chart and how they affect us. Myself, being born a Cancer, is not out to achieve the same experience of every Cancer. Thanks to modern astrology and the everyday mentality of people asking, “What sign are you?” we’ve become jaded with the belief that our Sun Sign is the most important aspect of our birth chart because the Sun is the ‘center’ of our Universe and it is our ‘outer’ personality or mask which we present to others. The Sun is also our creative self-expression who’s Light animates everything that we embrace in our life. It is our identity but this identity is not, and very rarely is, a true representation of our over-all incarnation in a nutshell. The part of our astrological chart to focus upon in this regards is known as our ‘Lot of Fortune.’ But of all the astrological symbols shown in our birth chart none is more confusing than the ‘Part of Fortune’ or ‘Lot of Fortune’.
10:30am To address another part of Mary's email from yesterday. I agree that what drives us is our libido and it's eternal quest of the unknown or the mysteries of the another's anatomy. Without our libido, on its lowest level, seeking the opposite, then humanity as we know it will cease to exist. It is nature's gift of survival. Of course, I agree that in childhood "we play doctor" to explore and examine the "mechanism of the opposite sex" or even the same sex ... but as I see it, the older we get we become more animal as our libido becomes sexually driven to the point where exploration takes a back seat to conquest. Maybe I'm too much of a romantic Cancer where I think the journey is more important than the arrival. Ah, VIIth Degree; anyone can be naked and get laid but only Pan can play! ... Grady McMurtry visited Aleister Crowley a few times between October 30th thru November 11th 1943 during which he was told what VIIth and VIIIth meant in order to fulfill the IXth. On December 13th 1943 Grady wrote the poem PANGENETOR.
9:50am The Chinese year of the Rat is no more, as of today we celebrate a 'new' Chinese year! We officially enter the Year of the Ox! This is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work.
6:15am OK Mary, I agree, my posting on the 21st at 12:15 where Kath and I discuss 'vagina depths' and 'penis sizes' could reflect 4 (depth of the vagina) + 6 (average penis size) = 10 Malkuth, or the body of a baby. Maybe you are onto something? Maybe the symbol of + does equals the mingling of fluids, the two lines, up and down, yin and yang, Eagle and Lion, into a single concoction? And then the symbol of = could also represent the vaginal opening where ten emerges. What do the other female Qabalists think?
5:24am Ricky sent other emails while my computer was down over the weekend trying to understand the Formula of ON and Abrahadabra in Liber Aleph. All I can say is that the formula of Abrahadabra is found throughout the Tree on many levels; to give it any one attribute would be dangerous. Where it is today, it will change tomorrow; unless of course you are standing still. ... Also, each chapter in Liber Aleph is a lesson which must be accomplished from the beginning of the book to end ... to skip and try to make sense out of the often rambling attributes only leads one down into a pit of Because. Since it appears that Ricky, and a few others, are really trying to make sense out of this book I must advise you all to go back to the beginning and read no chapter until the previous has become 'yours.' Alot of questions you guys are beginning to ask border on O.T.O. Upper Degree secrets which are laid out clearly in the book and it would be inappropriate to discuss these with outsiders of my A.'.A.'. lineage. If I have given you a taste in this blog as to why this book is so important .... then read it. There are no short cuts to IXth Degree; you either know it, or you don't. I cannot teach it to you.
5:18am Ricky writes - "Jerry 93! OK, I think I am starting to understand "The Oeconomy of this Way... fulfilling itself wholly within thine own sphere." I forgot that the 'Sanctuary of Gnosis' has not been attained at the point where this formula is expounded on and that there is a physical aspect to it symbolized by the path of Shin. And this path has the same number as Ruach Elohim, the Spirit of God. Makes alot of sense in regards to the word Nous (being the Greek philosophical term for mind) which is 'made flesh.' My last email seems superficial now. Some how I failed to realize Binah is always active in us since we have the ability to create rough outlines of Ideas and this is the beginning of the active process of the left hand pillar. This is laid out in the chapter 'DE FORMULA TOTA'. Would it be correct to say that if we remove the roll of the Eagle, it describes the formula of ON as we have been discussing it? 93 93/93 Ricky." ........... Reply: You are thinking too hard ... to your question - no.
5:00am For the history buffs: Hans Holzer was born on this date in Vienna, Austria in 1920. He is a world-renowned parapsychologist, lecturer and author of more than 119 books dealing with paranormal phenomena, witchcraft and UFOs. He has been an active writer in television and films. He was a TV producer of the In Search Of series. A few of his classics books are Ghost Hunter (1965) Ghosts I’ve Met (1965), Yankee Ghosts (1966) and The Lively Ghosts of Ireland (1967). …...…. also, Andrew Standish was born on this date in 1930. Approximately nine months earlier his mother, Stella Taylor, reportedly cheated on her husband Len Standish. She had an affair with Aleister Crowley while the latter was briefly visiting Brussels. Unfortunately, Mr. Crowley, who kept extensive diaries about all his affairs and often dropped names like water; never once mentions either Stella or ‘his’ new son anywhere. Be that as it may, when young Andrew grew up he decided to claim his ‘rightful heritage’ by changing his name to Amado Crowley. However, he has never offered one shred of evidence to prove his claims about being Aleister Crowley’s illegitimate son. He is the author of such books as The Secrets of Aleister Crowley (1991), The Riddles of Aleister Crowley (1992) and The Wrath of Aleister Crowley (1994). …...…. Also, for the wiccans, Roy Bowers was born into a Methodist family in London, England on this date in 1931. He is more commonly known as Robert Cochrane. He was a practicing English ‘hereditary witch’ who in the early fifties founded his own coven based on his family tradition; calling his group the Clan of Tubal Cain. The noted witch Doreen Valiente was initiated into his group in 1964 but soon became disillusioned with Cochrane as she realized he was more fiction than fact. To this day, many of his hereditary claims have yet to be proved. He died in 1966 on the eve of Summer Solstice in what some have claimed was a ritual suicide after ingesting belladonna, more commonly known as Deadly Nightshade. Others claim it was simply an accident. …...…. and finally, for the UFO hunters; Bob Lazar was born on this date in Coral Gables, Florida, to unknown parents in 1959. He was adopted by Albert Lazar and his wife. Bob Lazar gained world wide notoriety in November of 1989 by going on a Las Vegas television station and announcing to the world that he was a physicist who worked at the top secret Area 51 involving ‘Flying Saucers.’ He claimed to have seen a total of nine flying saucers housed in hangars built into a hillside. He even said that he had hands-on experience with one of the craft and he could describe its propulsion system in detail. Lazar says he read briefing papers about the alien presence but that he saw no aliens himself, aside from a fleeting glimpse of a small figure through a window at the facility.

Saturday January 24th 2009 – 7:10am Happy Birthday Mr. Olson.
6:45am For the history buffs:
Friday January 23rd 2009 – 11:10am Jay writes - "Okay Jerry, I've been reading the Kybalion (loving this Hermetic philosophy) and have come into an interesting train of thought. Hopefully this won't fall too much under the category of "pesky Scorpio." Reading through the idea that The All is Mind I got to thinking about the relationship between matter and mind-- the very issue plaguing contemporary philosophers. Why do we perceive such a distinction? From the notion of opposites it seems that matter and mind are just at opposite extremes of the same scale (the nebulous middle ground residing, perhaps, in the astral). What philosophers are missing (being agnostic at best) is the notion of elementals. The human mind is complex because the human brain is a very complex object capable of an unbelievable amount of different permutations. The mind of, say, a chair is very simple; we call this mind an elemental. A chair, having no Will and no capacity to affect itself or its surroundings has a comparatively simple mind, a blind force. Magicians are capable of affecting the universe differently than non-magicians because we commune with the elementals, uniting the "individual" mind to the mind "outside" (at a higher level there is no distinction as all dissolve into 0). But this analogy leads to the conclusion that the mind is the HGA, which I'm not sure is accurate. I feel I'm on to something here, but am just not putting the pieces together in the right order. What are your thoughts? Or have I completely inundated you at this point?" .......... Reply: Yes you are a 'pesky Scorpio' but we love you anyways. Be that as it may, you're thinking too hard and forgetting that the world is filled with objective and subjective beings; not everything is simply the 'Higher Self' ... it's not that easy. The 'rational mind' will always force you to think solely of Self as if trying to keep your focus Earth bound via the pit of Because ... remember, in Crowley's diary dated August 3, 1918 during his Magical Retirement on Esopus Island, he wrote, “Having been trying to get into dhyana for half an hour: not the least use. What’s wrong? If this goes on, I shall be eligible for membership in the Theosophical Society.”
7:00am For the history buffs: Today is just one of the many recorded dates believed to be when Grigori Efimovich Rasputin was said to have been born in 1872. Although some place the date much earlier in the 1860’s. Regardless, historians all seem to agree that it took place in a small village of Pokrovskoe in Siberia. The rest is shrouded in a little historical mystery and myth. Rasputin was known as the Mad Monk. He was killed on December 17, 1917 by a cabal of aristocrats who feared Rasputin’s influence had grown too great. Rasputin’s death became the stuff of legend: assassins fed him enough poisoned cakes and wine to kill ten men and when the poison failed they shot him and beat him. Still Rasputin didn’t die, until finally he was bound and tossed into the Neva River. After his body had been recovered the autopsy showed that he drowned. …...…. Also, Dr. Tony Agpaoa, ‘The Psychic Surgeon of the Philippines’ died on this date in 1982 and was interred in a glass coffin. Many believed him to be a ‘quack’ who drove around in a gold-plated Mercedes while seemingly performing surgical services by plunging his hands into the body in order to remove cysts and to drain infected areas, all done by sleight-of-hand. In 1968 when Agpaoa visited Detroit to perform ‘surgery’ he was arrested and charged with medical fraud. Choosing not to prove his ability, he skipped his $25,000 bail and fled back to the Philippines. …....... and keeping with the flavor of the day, Dr. George King was born on this date in Shropshire, England in 1919. Early in life his deep spiritual interests found expression in traditional Christianity, but he soon learned there was more to life and he turned to psychic phenomena and yoga. His ‘transformation’ occurred on May 8, 1954 when he was sitting alone in his London apartment. He claimed to have heard a loud distinctly human voice saying, “Prepare yourself! You are to become the voice of Interplanetary Parliament.” It came out of nowhere and ended as abruptly as it had happened. He then claimed that a few days later an unidentified world-renowned Yoga Master from India walked ‘through’ his locked door and taught him a series of highly specialized exercises which would enable him to bring about a state of consciousness necessary for the establishment of mental rapport with the Cosmic Masters who inhabit the higher planes of other planets. On their direction King founded The Aetherius Society and began publishing the journal Cosmic Voice. He lectured throughout Britain serving as the channel for numerous transmissions from Cosmic Intelligences whose messages, according to King, constitute the most priceless metaphysical library in the world, with a range and depth of spiritual teachings without equal in the annals of occult truth. In June of 1959, guided by the ‘Cosmic Authority’, Dr. King came to America where The Aetherius Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization in November of 1960. On July 12, 1997 Dr. King passed away in Santa Barbara, California. …....…. And finally, Regina Kahl was given Minerval initiation into Aleister Crowley’s O.T.O. in southern California on this date in 1931. She is most famous for the photo of her as the High Priestess sitting on the Gnostic Mass altar at Agape Lodge. Grady Louis McMurtry described her as “a big, square gal from Texas, built sort of like a rock.” She was a teacher of ‘court voice’ at UCLA campus.
Thursday January 22nd 2009 – 7:10pm Regarding the Formula of ON that we’ve been discussing over this last week, Ricky from Georgia writes, “Jerry 93, Just a quick observation. It seems that the path of the Empress must be a part of the equation also. I say this because the energy descending through the left hand pillar must come from somewhere because Binah cannot 'create' energy She only forms that which She receives from Chokmah. In fact by the 'Law of the Conservation of Energy', energy cannot be created at all! So it only seems correct to 'convert' the ascending energy from Chokmah through the 'door' to Binah much in the same way it 'converts' in Peh. Beside this, in 'De Hac Formula Considerationes Kabbalisicae' Crowley mentions that the letter of Venus, D, is an Eidolon of H or the Star, Nuit. I don't think it is coincidence that D or delet is the letter of the path connecting the two highest Sephira in this formula. He goes on to say that "Heh being Our Lady NUIT Starry, is an Anchor to this Magick" I take this to mean that that energy comes from Not and returns to Not. Sounds kinda like the 'Law of the Conservation of Energy no?... What do you think? 93 93/93 Ricky.” ........... Reply: Good ideas but also consider the sexual implications of what Aleister Crowley has stated in Liber Aleph in the chapter titled DE HAC FORMULA CONSIDERATIONES KABBALISTICAE about Abra-Had-Abra when he states that the “Substance is the Father, the Instrument is the Son, and the Metaphysical Ecstasy is the Holy Ghost, whose name is HRILIU,” or basically semen (Abra), the phallus (Abra) and the orgasm (Had). Crowley furthermore refers to these three qualities as the sacred letters R, B and D. The letter R is the Hebrew letter Resh which rules the Tarot card of The Sun whose ruling attribute is the Sun itself, a double reference to semen. The letter B is Beth, ruling The Magus card whose attribute is Mercury or the phallus. D is Daleth, rules Venus as the ‘ecstasy.’ In Energized Enthusiasm Crowley states - “The Greeks say that there are three methods of discharging the Lyden Jar of Genius. These three methods they assign to three Gods” and that “These three Gods are Dionysus, Apollo, Aphrodite. In English: wine, woman and song.”
R
Wine
Sun
Apollo
Substance
D
Woman Venus
Aphrodite
Ecstasy
B
Song
Mercury Dionysus
Instrument
It is important to realize that these three letters or Resh-Beth-Daleth spell out in Hebrew the ‘Word’ (רבד) but not a ‘Word’ in the sense of anything mundane - it is the sacred Word (Nous) made flesh.
11:45pm I just want to point out that when I woke up this morning I found not one email waiting for me and here it is almost noon, and still not one email. Compared to yesterday, all I can say is - "What a difference a day makes."
7:45am For the history buffs: There is a lot to report today so I’m going to edit out some entries and abridge others rather than making this section a tome. Francis Bacon was born on this date in 1561 at York House in London. He was an English philosopher, statesman, FreeMason, essayist and spy. It has been speculated that he ghost wrote many of the books for William Shakespeare but this assertion remains highly controversial. He did write such works as Colours of Good and Evil (1597), Meditationes Sacrae (1597) and De augmentis scientiarum (1623) to name but a few. His death had a considerable element of irony. It seems that in March of 1626, while driving his buggy one snowy day in London, he was inspired by the possibility of using snow to preserve meat. He immediately purchased a chicken to investigate this possibility but during the endeavor of stuffing it with snow he contracted a fatal case of pneumonia and died on April 9, 1626. …...…. next, Baron Karl von Reichenbach, died on this date in 1869. He was a German scientist and philosopher who coined the phrase ‘Odic Force.’ The term Odic or Od he derived from the name of the Norse god Odin, the creator of life. He used the term to refer to his theories about a hypothetical energy or life force which he believed permeated all living things from plants, animals to humans. …...…. next, Alfred R. Orage was born on this date in Yorkshire, England in 1873. His brilliant literary skills and wide range of interests led him to edit the enormously influential journal called The New Age from 1907 until 1922. Upon quitting he moved to Fontainebleau where he joined his teacher, Georgii Ivanovitch Gurdjieff. He also established The New English Weekly in April 1932 in which he had hoped to spread the words of Gurdjieff. He died on November 5, 1934. …...…. also important to mention; Karl Germer was born in Wuppertal, Germany on this date in 1885. In the early thirties Aleister Crowley stayed at his house in Germany and there, during one of his sexual adventures he allowed his ‘semen’ to stain Germer’s new black satin sheets. This was an outrage according to Karl Germer, or so he complained. Crowley found Karl Germer’s attitude absolutely ridiculous. In his private diaries Crowley writes, “I replied with the Mild Wisdom of the Sages: Since when, pray, have Cunts been water tight?” After Crowley’s death Germer assumed the position of Outer Head of the Ordo Templi Orientis, of which he held for almost fifteen years. He died on October 25, 1962 of prostate cancer. His successor, Grady Louis McMurtry, wrote that “surgeons had made the incision at the level of the Lower Penal Sign known to our Order, found that the cancer was inoperable, sewed him up, and sent him home to die. Naturally Sacha was completely incapable of changing the bandages, the wound became infected, he was taken back to the hospital, and it was while the nurses were trying to clean him that he died screaming.” …...…. also, Robert E. Howard was born on this date in 1906. Howard was a close friend of H. P. Lovecraft and is probably most famous for creating the stories of Conan the Barbarian. …...…. and to keep with today’s flavor, Douglas ‘Wrong Way’ Corrigan was born on this date in 1907. He became a legendary aviator, not so much for his accomplishments but rather because he seemingly misread his compass in 1938 and created a navigational error by flying from New York to Ireland when he was supposed to be flying from New York to California. He died on December 9, 1995. …...…. and Rupert S. Gleadow was born on this date in Leicester, England in 1909. He was a noted British sidereal Astrologer who wrote The Origin of the Zodiac (1968) and The Zodiac Revealed (1968) as well as a lengthy series of articles in American Astrology Magazine. He died on October 30, 1974. …...…. and finally, Linda Denise Blair was born on this date in St. Louis, Missouri in 1959. She was the little pea soup spitting wonder that played the possessed eleven-year old Regan MacNeil in the movie entitled The Exorcist. .... ok you can scream at me - "No More!!!!"
