~ FEBRUARY 15th - 28th 2009 ~

Saturday February 28th 2009 – 6:50am For the history buffs: Mina ‘Moina’ Bergson the gifted artist and clairvoyant was born on this date in Geneva, Switzerland in 1865. She was the wife of Samuel L. MacGregor Mathers, one of the founders of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. After his death in Paris she returned to London in 1919 where she established the Alpha et Omega Lodge, which she ran somewhat successfully for nine years. She died on July 25, at the age of sixty-three at Saint Mary’s Hospital in London. Her body was cremated. After her death all the magickal furniture of Moina’s Golden Dawn Temple, as well as her writings and private papers, were burned per the orders that she received from the Secret Chiefs. It an odd twisted way it was fulfilling her magickal motto of Vestigia Nulla Retrorsun which means “I leave no trace behind.” …...…. And it was on February 28, 1946 that the great goddess appeared to Jack Parsons in his Babalon Working claiming, “yea, it is I Babalon, and this is my book ...” of which she began dictating and thus was written The Book of Babalon. …...…. And Richard Ramirez was born on this date in El Paso, Texas in 1960. Besides being called a “spineless, gutless punk” he was also known as the Night Stalker; a term taken from a song on AC/DC’s album titled Highway To Hell. This was Ramirez’s favorite heavy metal band. His nighttime killing spree and sexual attacks of random victims began in June of 1984 and proceeded for about five months. He boasted of being a ‘Devil worshipper,’ a ‘Satanist’ and he was notorious for scrawling an inverted pentacle in his victim’s blood on the wall of each crime scene. He was found guilty on September 20, 1989 and sentenced to death.

Friday February 27th 2009 – 6:45am Ed Wormuth sent me an email about - "Birthday Clock., It tells you how many hours and how many seconds You have been alive on this earth and when you. Were probably conceived. How cool is that? This is cool. After you've finished reading the Info, click again, and see what the moon looked Like the night you were born. This is neat. Who says our time clocks aren't ticking....if you want a copy of your birth click on friendly version at end.  Click this:  Birthday Calculator." ... Yes, it was fun to review all the data but as of 2/27/2009 9:37:43am I am not sure I needed to know that I am 1,818,581,863 seconds old, or the fact that there is 137 days till my next birthday when I will have 58 candles on my cake. It then tells me that those 58 candles produce 58 BTUs that I can boil 6.63 US ounces of water. Nice. ... Yes, I was amused; especially by all the other info about my zodiac sign, its numbers, chinese year, sacred American Indian animals, tree and flowers, tons of info and lots of etcs. ... I liked where my fortune cookie reads - "Put the data you have uncovered to beneficial use." ... Also, my 'birth tree' is the Fir which explains alot about this Cancer (69) quest for the opposite sex. It then tells me that the Fir has "extraordinary taste" ... yes, I know but like all Firs, some taste better than others. ... Anyway, check out this site, I added it onto my 'favorites' list.

6:30 To a student, consider this: from a magickal stand point, without revealing too much, in Magick in Theory & Practice, Chapter XI entitled Of Our Lady Babalon and the Beast Whereon she Rideth, deals with assuming an astral Body of Light which enables a magician or an entity to take "his pleasure among the living." ... On a curious note, Crowley supposedly received Ninth Degree because he already knew the secrets of the degree and it is said that he unconsciously published these secrets in The Book of Lies which contains The Mass of the Phoenix. The ritual is very unique, portraying the mysteries of all Masses. As an example to what I've already said, in one of the last lines the magician proclaims Abrahadabra and then says "I now go forth, and with thanksgiving, To do my pleasure on earth, among the legions of the living." I will not go further into these mysteries. What I have just said are only tidbits of thought which, hopefully, will direct an individual's research toward their own realization of a Divine Truth. I agree with Crowley that this stage can not be revealed openly. It must be 'understood' internally, not intellectually. I'd like to end this thought with the last paragraph of Chapter XI in Magick In Theory & Practice since, in some ways, Crowley says it better than I when he writes, "It is not necessary to say much more than this concerning transformation. Those to whom the subject naturally appeals will readily understand the importance of what has been said. Those who are otherwise inclined may reflect that a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse."

6:23am Mike, to answer your question about the magickal diary and the book that you cite let me quote something I wrote years ago – “The first and most important requirement which is often overlooked or taken very lightly is the Magickal Diary or Record. If this practice is ignored a magician could easily find themselves sailing in very dangerous waters. This is no idle threat. The Magickal Record implies the record of a specific magickal working(s) which a magician is doing. while the Magickal Diary is a personal overview of one’s life activities which may, in fact, include magickal records. Like every magickal exercise the theory of this practice is based in simplicity but it is multilayered and includes intricate reasons for the advanced student. I find it tragic that some ‘self-help’ books reportedly published by serious students of magick don’t even bother to discuss the Magickal Diary, or they give it such a weak overview that it offers little help for the novice. Must I remind these authors that it was Aleister Crowley who said that “The first and absolutely essential task for the Aspirant is to write his Magical Record.” Shouldn’t these authors at least include something about this seemingly simplistic requirement? Although, in all honesty, I might point out that it was also Crowley who stated that the student “should do nothing ... which he does not understand.” Maybe this statement holds the clue as to why some authors avoid the topic while others have kept their statements very brief."

6:20am For the history buffs: Although many of his followers claim this man to be still alive, since he knew the secret of the Elixir of Life, the truth is that Comte de St. Germain died in Hesse, Germany on this date in 1784. …...…. And Rudolf Steiner, philosopher and the father of bio-dynamic farming movement, was born on this date in Kralijevec, Hungary in 1861. At the age of eight he was already aware of things that are not seen by others. Writing about his experiences at this age, he said, “. . . the reality of the spiritual world was as certain to me as that of the physical. I felt the need, however, for a sort of justification for this assumption.” Inevitably, he was drawn to The German Theosophical Society, which he became the head of from 1902 until 1912. One of his main motives for leaving the Theosophists was that they did not treat Jesus or Christianity as special. After breaking away and formed his Anthroposophical Society on January 14, 1913. Steiner’s most lasting and significant influence still felt worldwide has been in the field of education. In 1913 at Dornach, near Basel, Switzerland, Steiner built his Goetheanum. This was a “school of spiritual science.” It was a forerunner of the Steiner or the now famous ‘Waldorf schools.’ The first U.S. Waldorf School opened in New York City in 1928. Today, the Steinerians claim that there are more than 600 Waldorf schools in over 32 countries with approximately 120,000 students. About 125 of the Waldorf schools are said to be currently operating in North America. Most people haven’t a clue where the term ‘Waldorf school’ originated. It seems the owner of a local factory had invited Steiner to give a series of lectures to his factory workers and apparently was so impressed he asked Steiner to set up a school for its children. He did so in 1919 and this became the first of the Steiner Schools - in the Waldorf-Astoria cigarette factory in Stuttgart, Germany. He wrote numerous books: The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity (1894), Occult Science: An Outline (1913), Investigations in Occultism (1920), and How to Know Higher Worlds (1904). On March 30, 1925 in Dornach, near Basle Switzerland, having been bed ridden since September of 1924, Steiner simply folded his hands over his chest, closed his eyes and died. …….... Finally, Valentin Tomberg was born on this date in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1900. He was a Theosophist, Christiam mystic and boasted of being a hermetic magician. He joined Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophical Society in 1925 wherein he rose within its ranks to become its Secretary-General. He later converted to Catholocism and moved to England. He retired to Reading near River Thames in England in 1960 where he began writing. He died on a holiday in Majorca on February 24, 1973. After his death his two manuscripts were finally published; A Study of the Tarot of Marseilles (1984) and Come Forth, Larzarus, a study of Christian mysticism (1985).

Thursday February 26th 2009 – 5:10am One of the age old questions that I often receive is whether or not a person practicing Crowley’s sex magick has to be promiscuous in order for it to work. Here is a little gem I published back in April of 2007 on this blog, it should answer some of your recent questions. I wrote:  “The problem with sex magick is due to a writer’s inclinations to create a correct ‘structure’ as to what moves the currents within a man and a woman but such structures are rarely accurate outside of revealing personal fears and proclivities. Crowley was as guilty of cornering the market on ‘truth’ as was the next guy but his sexual methods and behavior [like everyone’s] was simply something rooted deep in his Victorian childhood which made him tick. As scientists we must show what works for us and how it enabled us to achieve but never should we definitively say that our sexual method is something that everyone should follow. At best, we can teach our students by example, telling each to make sex magick personal by ‘exploring’ it. The end result is quite simple – ‘success is your only proof.’  On that note we must acknowledge that Crowley achieved far more than most magicians. If by having Leah urinate and defecate on his chest worked for him, who are we to say otherwise? However, don’t read about Crowley’s life and think that as a Thelemite you must follow in his footsteps. His sex magick is not YOUR sex magick. It is important to remember that everyone’s libido is different otherwise the world would be a very boring place. Our libido is often thought of as simply being the urge to copulate but in truth it is more so a creative energy driven by opposites, or duality pulling from above and below. Crowley knew this and he tried to incorporate its theories in his magick. Even quantum physics teaches us that we all project measurable frequencies [i.e. energy] or vibrations which continually seek a ‘similar’ opposite, or in simplest of terms; like attracts like. Carl Jung believed that this sexual energy is rooted in the ‘human psyche’ and when left unchecked it expresses itself through dreams and symbols; adding that if a person understood the unconscious images they could use such toward personal development. Magicians like Crowley agree but further believe that we should utilize our sexual libido to its fullest inclinations since its behavior is rooted in the foundation of our childhood. In other words, if we require specific lessons before puberty which unconsciously play an important role in our adult incarnation then we must not ignore or surpress our sexual inclinations because it holds the key to the manifestation of the ‘above’ within our self; the above being our genius. If we suppress our sexuality we in affect suppress our genius. All in all, as a Thelemite Crowley had the right to do his Will sexually as do you. Liber OZ clearly says that we have the right to love as we will – “when, where and with whom ye will!” (Liber AL I:51) but never once does it say you must sleep around as some Thelemites so vociferous try to tell new recruits. This attitude is simply a stance used by the less appealing in some Thelemic communities in order to get laid. In truth, whether you sleep around or stay with one sexual partner, whether you like whips and chains or the simple missionary posture - do what thou wilt.”

5:00am For the history buffs: Ludovico Maria Sinistrari, of the Order of Reformed Minors of the Strict Observance of St. Francis, was born on this date in 1622 in the small Italian town of Ameno. His claim to fame is the fact that he was the author of the infamous Demoniality, a book which laid out the Catholic Church’s beliefs on demonic intercourse. It’s a really fun read! …...….And Fredrich Levke was born on this date in Wesel in 1904. In 1936 he met the German occultist Martha Küntzel, who subsequently became his mentor. Proclaiming himself a Thelemite he later befriended Aleister Crowley. The high-point of his spiritual progress occurred in 1944 upon achieving the Adeptus Major Grade in the AA, and IX° within the OTO. He died in 1956. …...…. George Adamski, the son of a Polish immigrant, who generated world-wide fame for filming UFOs and writing such books as Flying Saucers Have Landed, died on this date in 1965 of a heart attack in Silver Springs, Md. at the age of 74. He was cremated and then buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Although he had many followers who believed in his stories, Time magazine simply referred to him as “a crackpot from California.” At the time of his death he was offering to teach people how to visit the planets Venus and Mars through self-hypnosis  ‘for only fifty dollars.’

Wednesday February 25th 2009 – 10:15am Here is a piece of historical trivia I just read about. It seems in the 1400s in England there was a law which stated that any man had the undisputed right to beat his wife if she did not obey him. However, the stick that he was allowed to use could be no thicker than his thumb. This is the actual source of the commonly used phrase - "the rule of thumb."

5:30am I've had some interesting talks and discussions of late as to why studying phallicism is so important and why it is my belief that the teachings will not be shifting to vaginaism even though Aquarius is a feminine aeon, or the Aeon of the Daughter. It is an amusing debate which always culminates with the attitude by some that women should not be taught phallicism. Ah, grasshoppers, I thought you might all enjoy something that I previously wrote to another student:

.... there are many misconceptions about the Kundalini; the most blatant is that she always sleeps and only a spiritual person can awaken her. In truth; the Kundalini rousts daily; moving serpentine up and down the spine as she assists us in embracing our Chakras or Sephiroth; which can either be a positive experience or negative. One of the greatest secrets about Kundalini is that she awakens regardless if a person is spiritual but rather the Serpent, also known as ‘Enlightenment’, wakes daily seeking to snare its prey. In many respects Kundalini is not part of us as much as she is an objective force similar to what the Greeks called our daimon; she is a pure elemental force given to us by the Gods to assist us in our incarnation and our spiritual growth. When studying the Qabalah there are similar views about the activation of the Sephiroth. Here we learn that everyone requires specific types of energy and emotions which each sphere contains in order for us to function but rarely is the experience more than ‘fleeting’ as the nergy quickly moves from one sphere to another throughout the course of a day. Yet Qabalah teaches us that every now and then, due to a great spiritual or emotional upheaval in our lives, and often in deep moods of self reflection, ‘Enlightenment’ strikes and we obtain an epiphany, or dare we say that the Serpent has bitten its prey in a specific Chakra causing a certain type of ‘genius’ to be spawned.
There is actually a really easy way to obtain a ‘strike’ on a chakra and this is by sexual means. There are simple rules of thumb to learn:
Men are Hadit, Women are Nuit.
Men are of the Earth, Women are of the Heavens.
Men are the Sun, Women are the Moon.
And The Book of Lies also informs us – “The brothers of A.’.A.’. are Women: the Aspirants to A.’.A.’. are Men.” ... This quote is from the chapter titled The Oyster which, according to Crowley, gives “an initiated feminine point of view”
This single chapter has confused more people but it is actually quite easy to understand. The initiated feminine point of view is not from Malkuth; nor is it something solely for women. ... In Qabalah once an initiate, either a man or a woman, crosses the Abyss their formula of attainment becomes ‘feminine’.... below the Abyss, the formula is always ‘masculine’ for both man and women.  Above the Abyss our attainment is rooted in the Stars but below the Abyss it is rooted in the ‘one’ Star of our Universe, i.e. our Sun.
This is part of the Upper Degree Secrets of OTO and why the order works primarily through phallicism. Remember, although the formula of ON contains both male and female qualities (formulas) it is primarily a ‘Solar’ formula teaching the generative powers of the actual Sun which both you and I experience on a daily basis. ... In Crowley’s Gnostic Masses you hear the Priest, with arms outstretched, saying, “Let this offering be borne upon the waves of Aethyr to our Lord and Father the Sun that travelleth over the Heavens in his name ON.” ... However, VIIth Degree OTO teaches us that the study of the generative powers of the Sun, who is the center of our Solar System in the Microcosm has an opposite “in the Microcosm, which is Man, the viceregent of the Sun, sole giver of Life, is the Phallus.”  ... Remember this rule:
1. Stars above the Abyss
2. Sun below the Abyss in the middle
3. and the Phallus on Malkuth
You can tell a narrow minded, bigoted man if they argue that merely by having a penis they have an edge. They do not.  In fact, the average guy avoids studying the topic of his ‘penis’ except from an ‘intellectual’ point-of-view out of fear of seeming too ‘gay’ ... because studying his penis too closely often implies in society that the man has a ‘problem.’ If a man can not overcome this phobia, he can never practice sex magick. However, some women on the other hand have little or no problem examining the workings of a male penis under a magnifying glass. But, believe it or not, this type of woman is also rare as that of the man. Most women, just as with men, are driven by the urge simply to get laid.
Still, if we do find a woman who wants to learn the secrets of their personal Tree of Life we teach them that it always begins, just as it does with the man, on the lowest of levels of Malkuth or their bodies. ... You cannot climb the Tree of Life affectively if you have issues with your own body and your sexuality. ... anyone can get laid but few people ever learn how to channel their libido through personal proclivities in order to spawn ‘genius.’ Phallicism, for both the man and the woman, holds the Universal Truth; this is the secret of upper degree OTO sex magick but the OTO has no interest in training the woman, just in using them. .... since you have joined the A.’.A.’. you are now according to Liber AL vel Legis working out of the grade of the man of Earth, and did I mention the MAN of earth and not ‘women’ of Earth?

5:20am For the history buffs: Merwan Sheriar Irani more commonly known as Meher Baba the ‘Compassionate Father’ was born on this date to Zoroastrian parents in Poona, a city on the Deccan plateau of India in 1894. It was said that at an early age Meher Baba entered into the state of God-Realization and that his mission as an Avatar, a Hindu word for Godman, was to extend his principle message of love. On July 10, 1925 he began his period of silence. A few days earlier one of his disciples asked, “But if you keep silent, how will you teach us?” To which he simply answered, “I have come not to teach, but to awaken.” He did not speak again for the remainder of his physical lifetime and his Silence remained unbroken for 44 years right until he dropped his physical body on January 31, 1969, which is a euphemism used by the Baba lovers for death. His best known spiritual message given to mankind is the simple phrase  “Don’t worry. Be happy.” …...…. the Australian Frank Bennett signed the Oath of a Neophyte in the AA on this date in 1919 and became known as Frater Progradior. He visited Crowley at the Abbey of Thelema at Cefalu where he supposedly attained an ‘illumination’ while swimming with the Beast. As a result Crowley wrote a ritual titled Liber Samekh; the frontispiece of which states: “Prepared An XVII Sun in Virgo at the Abbey of Thelema in Cephalaedium by the Beast 666 in service to FRATER PROGRADIOR.” That is; between 23rd August and 22nd September (Sun passes through Virgo) in the vulgar year of 1921 e.v.” Bennett attempted to establish Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis in Australia but his work attracted hostile publicity and, because of such, he failed to achieve any real influence. Frank Bennett later returned to England. He died at the home of his mistress on November 23, 1930 at the age of sixty-two. …...…. And I’d like to mention that Henri Landru, infamously known as ‘Bluebeard’, was guillotined in France on this date in 1922. He had murdered ten women and a young boy. In his confession he wrote, “I did it. I burned their bodies in my kitchen oven.” His story inspired the 1947 black comedy movie known as Monsieur Verdoux. …...…. And I should point on that on February 25, 1927 The Baltimore Sun, of Baltimore Maryland, ran the following headlines : “Wm. Fuld is Killed in Fall from Roof, Support gives way while he is helping erect flagpole atop factory.” It seems William Fuld, one of the two brothers who founded the original Ouija Board Company, had accidentally fallen off the roof of his Baltimore company and plunged three stories to his death. He was only 54. Of course there were immediate rumors circulating of a suicide since the business had supposedly fallen on hard times. Others, who were actually present, disagreed, claiming that William was supervising the assembly of a new flagpole when the support post he was leaning against gave way. They said he simply fell backwards off the roof. Still, the suicide stories persist to this day. As for Isaac, the other brother, he died twelve years later on November 18th 1939 at the age of seventy-four. …...…. And finally, on February 25, 1969 Barney Hill died. He had become famous years earlier due to his UFO experience being told in a now classic book titled The Interrupted Journey. In this book we learn the graphic details of Barney and his wife Betty being taken aboard a Flying Saucer on US Route 3 near the village of Lancaster, New Hampshire in 1961.

Tuesday February 24th 2009 11:11am SHE'S BACK!!! My poltergeist activity has been very quiet since last August of 2008 but yesterday morning things began to change. I was expecting company so I decided to do a little straightening up but when I tried to put my camera away I could not find its case. I had left it right on the table by my knapsack. I searched high and low but had no luck locating it. ... Later that same day I recorded this entry in my diary - "5:40pm Now I can’t find the cap to my flashdrive; I had it right here two seconds ago. One second I was looking at it out of the corner of my left eye, the next, it’s gone. This is the second thing I’ve noticed today that has come up missing. But I wonder what I haven’t noticed? Anyway, it’s got to be my favorite little poltergeist; she’s been quiet for some time now and I can only wonder what sparked this activity? " ...... And today I recorded this diary entry - "Tuesday Feb. 24th New Moon in Pisces. 5:35am As I sat up, I just happen to look up and notice a picture (of Karl Germer) is missing from the row of photos on the wall. Odd. Searched for it but to no avail. It has glass in it so if it had fallen off its high perch during the night there would have been a crash and smash. But where is it? In truth, it could have vanished anytime, I just happened to noticed it now. But it is no biggy. If ‘she’ is up to her old tricks, with hiding things, it’ll surface sooner or later."... I took a picture to show where the items is missing and I added it and this story, to my special 'poltergeist' webpage.

5:45am Its been raining for over a week; kinda grey and gloomy; just like my health, however, I think I'm over the hump with this damn flu bug which has had me in bed (& tragically alone) for days now. It has been no fun. I was climbing the walls. I wanted to go out and play. I wanted to kill a six-pack just to watch it die but I had to settle for lots of OJ.

5:40am For the history buffs: on this date in 1950 one of the founding members of the Ordo Templi Orientis in the United States died in Canada; this was Frater Achad, or Charles Stansfeld Jones.

Monday February 23rd 2009 – 10:20am Weiser Antiquarian Books Catalog # 53. Aleister Crowley, Victor Neuburg & Friends. A Catalogue of Rare & Secondhand Books & Ephemera. may now be viewed at: www.weiserantiquarian.com/catalog

Sunday February 22nd 2009 – 7:15am I want to send a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY out to both Mari and Clive Harper, both born on this date; one in 1956, the other in 67.

Saturday February 21st 2009 – 7:20am For the history heap: Anais Nin, a literary figure of the avant-garde, was born on this date in Neuilly, France in 1903. She was a ‘modernist’ writer of short stories and novels but is most famous for her sexually explicit journals and her correspondence with her lover, the American writer and story-teller Henry Miller. In her book Incest, in the chapter simply titled “November 2, 1934”, she wrote that “Henry has fallen under the spell of a remarkable old man {Aleister Crowley} who is fantastic and psychic, a painter gone mad in Zurich.” It seems, according to Miller, that he first met Aleister Crowley in Paris through the French astrologer Conrad Moricand in 1933 but Crowleyites are doubtful of this since Crowley was expelled from France in the April of 1929, never to set foot in that country again after June of that year. Therefore, how Miller could have encountered the Beast in Paris in 1933 is truly a remarkable feat of story-telling, which Anais Nin seemingly accepted as truth. She died of ovarian cancer on January 14, 1977. …...... Also, on this date in 1907 the British poet Wystan Hugh Auden, and author of The Age of Anxiety, was born in York, England. He was one of the 148 a contributors on a brief questionnaire which was sent “To the Writers and Poets of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.” The simple question that was asked of each was: “Are you for, or against, the legal Government and the People of Republican Spain? Are you for, or against, Franco and Fascism?” The final pamphlet was titled Authors take Sides on the Spanish War and was published by the Left Review, London 1937. Some of the author’s remarks are neutral, others are speaking out for Franco and, of course, Aleister Crowley’s comment in the pamphlet is referred to as being ‘violent.’ All he wrote was: “Franco is a common murderer and pirate: should swing in chains at Execution Dock. Mussolini, the secret assassin, possibly worse. Hitler may prove a ‘prophet’; time will judge.” …...... And finally, the first issue of The Oriflamme rolled off the press in California on this date in 1943. It was released through the Agape Lodge of Aleister Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis. After receiving his copy Crowley sent Jane Wolfe a letter stating, “About ‘Oriflamme’: I cannot see the point of this at all. It is the most amateurish production I have ever set eyes on. You give absolutely not one word of the information which people expect when they pick up a new magazine. Why don’t you print the Constitution of the O.T.O. perhaps in an abridged form? You have got to show who you are, what you stand for, and what you are doing. You don’t even give an address, except a post office box. I can not imagine any more stupid way of wasting money. Anyhow, for the future, please print nothing of mine in any such rag-bag of imbecility!

Friday February 20th 2009 The OPEN HOUSES scheduled at Love's Sake Clerk House tonight has been cancelled due to the flu ....

6:25am Ricky sent an interesting email. He writes - “Your recent blog has been very enlightening and entertaining! But I have a very diferent issue. Do you think, is the True Will able to be known before one attaines the K&C of the HGA? I ask because Crowley states that establishing the Law is a natural part of everyones True Will in order to help humanity become emancipated from the Old Aeon. My issue is, the 'discovery' of the Law for myself has so changed the course of my incarnation and emancipated ME in such a way that doing anything other than trying to bring this Liberty to others seems a profanation of my Freedom. This is very hard to explain because it is such a personal subject and articulating it thus seems to take away from the meening it has to me, for there are no words to acuratly express it. it wold seem I have found my True purpose in this incarnation only it also seems cliché. It seems every person who truely finds a TRUTH to want to share it with others in the hopes that it will help them as it has helped you. But the question remains, is this just another funtion of the "lower ego" to gain recognition from those who "you help emancipate." I guess what I am asking is, is this just another 'trick' of the 'lower ego' masquerading as a noble aim? Should it be our buisness even to 'promulgate' the Law? Doesnt Liber AL tell us "Success is thy proof: argue not; convert not; talk not overmuch!" What does this mean!? I am reminded of AC's statment in "Louis Lingg" chapter 81 of the Book of Lies  'Every "emancipator" has enslaved the free'” ............. Reply: So many questions and some are difficult to address because of definitions. With our writings and this blog, we have spent years trying to make people understand what the ‘True Will’ and ‘K&C of the HGA’ are, so unless we are on the same page, I cannot truly know how to answer. ....  but for starters, our True Will is the desired experience that we picked through incarnation. In theory, only ‘reflections’ can ever be known before one achieves the full Knowledge and Conversation of their Holy Guardian Angel. The problem is that Crowley admittedly confuses the HGA with the Higher Self in most of his writings by assuming they are one and the same. He would not realize this folly until shortly before death and he writes about in Magick Without Tears. The Higher Self is achieved in Tiphereth, the HGA above the Abyss. ... Also, it is the ‘natural function’ of all humans to assist each other, which is something done on an almost unconscious daily level unless this affect is baulked by certain experiences which harden an individual away from the world and inward toward self, above all else. But on a customary basis, humanity is a very much sharing and giving race. We all want to help, we’re hard-wire that way. But what this means in the early stage of magickal Self discovery is utter folly. In other words, if you have to ‘share with others’ personal magickal discoveries then obviously you do not have the Lower Ego under control; this being the sum total of spheres from lower Tiphereth to Malkuth and, if so, then you are correct in that the 'lower ego' is often masquerading as an anarchist in spiritual realms. Admittedly, assisting humanity is the ultimate goal of ever A.’.A.’. Initiate but it cannot affectively be done below Yesod; otherwise it is merely the blind leading the blind. Every initiate is always taught to keep their personal magick quiet and if they have this 'need' to help humanity then go volunteer your time at a soup kitchen.

5:20am For the history heap: L. Ron Hubbard and Jack Parsons formally established a company together on this date in 1946. The business began by Jack Parsons taking $20,970.80 of his life savings of $25,000, adding it to L. Ron Hubbard’s meager amount of $1,183.91 and then depositing it all into an account called Allied Enterprises. The third partner, Sara Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Northrup, Jack’s ex and L. Ron’s new girlfriend, contributed absolutely nothing into the account. However, according to the paperwork she, Jack and L. Ron would share equally in the project. The over all scheme was to take the money and invest it in buying sailing vessels in Miami and then sail them to California for resale at a good profit. It seemed like a good business venture, but …...... and I would also like to mention that Dr. Joseph Banks Rhine, the ‘father of modern parapsychology’ who established the Duke University Parapsychology Laboratory in 1935, died on this date at the age of 84 in 1980. He coined the term “extrasensory perception,” or ESP.

Thursday February 19th 2009 – 9:38am Added more stuff into my For Sale catalogue ...

8:10am Andy, from Japan, writes - "Jerry 93! I am glad that you posted Jerri's 'tome' of 12:30 pm on Feb 18th. I think that it's one of the most lucid descriptions of the differences between men and women, emotionally and intellectually, that I've ever read. Bravo to her. 93 93/93 Andy."

8:00am Up and out bed, or at least for awhile. Here is the history buffs: Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikolaj Kopernik) was born on this date in Torun, Poland in 1473. He is considered the father of modern astronomy. He was the first person to attempt to apply a modern, almost rational standard of order to God’s universe, which marked the beginning of the scientific revolution, and of a new view of a greatly enlarged universe. Copernicus died on May 24, 1543. …...... also, La Voisin ‘The Satanic High Priestess’ during the reign of Louis XIV made her confession on this date in 1680 of sacrificing over 2500 babies in the name of Satan. She did this, she claimed, with the help of Louis XIV’s mistress, Madamme de Montespan, and a 67 year old libertine priest named the Abbé Guiborg. …...... and Brad Steiger, which is pseudonym of Eugene E. Olson, was born on this date in Bode, Iowa in 1936. He is the author, or coauthor of over a hundred and fifty books with such titles as Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits, Haunted Places, The Source: A Journey through the Unexplained, Strangers from the Skies, Project Bluebook, The Rainbow Conspiracy and UFO Odyssey. …...... and I should mention that Grady Louis McMurtry, the future head of the Ordo Templi Orientis,  found himself caught up in the spirit of American patriotism and he joined the United States Army on this date in 1941. However, there is every indication that his ‘patriotic decision to join’ came with a draft notice saying that he had to report for duty. This notice probably arrived while he was still in college and it effected his decision to quit just twelve days before he had to report - but of the impetus, it seems he went willingly. He was sent to boot camp, or basic training, at Ft. Riley in Kansas. …...... And Ivan T. Sanderson died on this date in 1973 of cancer at the age of 62. In his early career Sanderson was a nature writer but soon became an enthusiastic Fortean author; devoting the majority of all his later books and articles to mysterious phenomena of all kinds from strange monsters, sea serpents to Bigfoot. Some of his most notable books were Univited Visitors (1967), Things (1967), More Things (1969), Invisible Residents (1970) and Investigating the Unexplained (1972). …...... but of all the things that I can mention of happening on Febuary 19th  my favorite is the fact that Ozzy Osbourne was arrested on this date in 1982 in San Antonio, Texas while wearing a dress and pissing on the Alamo.

6:35am I'm sick as a dog, got da flu ... tomorrow's Open House has been cancelled.

Wednesday February 18th 2009 – 12:30pm Jerri sent a great tome. It rivals even the length of some of mine! She writes:

  93 Jerry my dear,
My statement was indeed stereotypical...and we simply cannot escape our natures...nor the constant interplay of the sexes therein (and without). We have much tension between our opposites...by necessity. However, we can choose to see. Yesterday's blog was a marvelous display of that tension of our natures in action...and much can be learned through it.
Men and women both state truths about the other...often couched in language the other sex either is either offended by or simply doesn't understand. This is not a question of intelligence...being that men are active on Malkuth, I think you often times understand information in utilitarian, mechanical (intellectual) terms. You communicate through this medium as well. You guys are the non-fiction section. The "how to" book. Women, active on Yesod, are concerned with fantasy and feelings. We want fiction...we want romance and beautiful scenery's... We understand information through that lens of emotion...and we communicate through our feelings... In no way here do I imply that men don't have feelings or women don't have intellect...but, we are positively functioning out of two different spots.
This is often times where we go wrong in conversation. You guys are simply stating the facts and we are sharing our feelings. We aren't even on the same page of the same book! We are discussing abstracts (feelings) and men are discussing tangibles (reason). Who could be right about that? Personally, I do think it's true. That we are defensive. We don't understand much of the time that you guys are joking...and we may have every reason to feel that way...years and years of being told that we are less than men in some regard or another will do that. But still, we must grow!
So then, why do we as a sex struggle with the magickal metaphor...considering we are the abstract feeling ones and you guys are the rational tangible ones? It would seem on the surface that we should be picking up on these type things much easier than males. Perhaps part of this is because, and I am theorizing here, the metaphors are presented in man language...crafted from the imagery of objects rather than on the fabric of emotions? When do you get the most response from women? On topics that make women feel something. Another reason is that most women reading the blog don't study Kabbalah and don't understand the meat of what is being discussed. They can't offer any type of understanding of material which they are simply unfamiliar...
Another thought that I've come up with in this regard is somewhat complicated, but might actually be closer to the point. Ok...we have thousands of years under our belts of a male dominated and energized society. I'm not blaming anyone for this, merely stating fact. That being said, we as a sex have been using a male model for understanding men which we try to use to understand ourselves. This is a mistake. A huge problem--which creates a multitude of issues within--and thus, without!
I could site many examples of this issue. We could discuss menstruation (one of my favorite topics!) as an example of this. I don't think any women could deny that our emotions are all over the board during this time of the month. We are totally erratic and appear crazy in the eyes of many men. We feel crazy ourselves (not to mention bloated, ugly and rejected)--not recognizing THIS IS A NATURAL AND POWERFUL PROCESS (that needs further exploration--clearly there is a reason it happens this way for us all)!!! Now, from a rational, intellectual point of view--we are total crazies! How could any sane person love you one minute and want to run your ass over in the car the next??
This "male conceptual model" that we use to define ourselves creates havoc within (and causes us to deny our very nature). As Magicians, we can all agree that denial, or things that are buried in our subconscious, can create all manner of psychological issues, not to mention physical manifestations in the form of disease and discomfort. This is perhaps part of the reason we fail to grasp the metaphor. First, we are anticipating that male criticism, which we inevitably and more often than not do get, resulting in defense mechanisms and guilt (for not being "rational" and "logical" and on and on...) and second, we fail to understand because we deny our very natures...creating a pendulum like effect, resulting in unbalanced Yesodian energy.
Many, many men are just as unwilling to examine and validate emotions as having much relevance, as many, many women are simply unwilling to utilize reason. On this plane, you guys are certainly the more active (as on the "invisible" Yesodian plane, we are active). I think you guys have an "easier" time here. You can grasp yourselves (hehe--penis reference) in a tangible, solid and methodical manner, whereas we reside in an emotional dreamland but live on a tangible plane. You can understand why women who do not study Magick would refuse to see themselves in this light because they can only view themselves through the veil of Malkuth? We know we are not inferior. But we are different. We need to embrace it, emotionally and intellectually. All of us--men and women (because ultimately, this lack of balance is reflected without...but is also indicative of the forces within...). For women, this involves getting in touch with the analytical side of our brains, and for men...you must get in touch with your feelings. Only then, can we meet in the middle -microcosmically and macrocosmically.
Next topic...but, this is a good one!
93 93/93
Copulo Contrarium

ps..I know...those ladies said that they never want to talk to you again! But, if memory serves, at least one of them has said that before. Emotions. Not reason. Perhaps she/they will get over it :)

My reply: Brilliant! You are truly a remarkable woman ... I humbly bow before your wisdom. and yes, I do hope both women get over it. I like both as friends.

9:45am And just when I was ready to post the below entry Ed Wormuth sent an email and answered my question - "What's today's topic going to be about?" Anyway, he writes - "93 Jerry, All this recent chatter in your blog about the proclivities of male and female drivers has me chuckling. To quote Captain Beefheart twice: "Hey hey hey all you young girls, I got a brand new Cadillac, got a Ferrari too!"  "I went around all day with the moon sticking in my eye".  or to quote some Indian Avatar "wannabe" whose name escapes me; "Life can be like driving your car" At the risk of the irony of sending this to one who doesn't even drive, from one who racks up 25k a year, I view all this auto-eroticism thru the rear view mirror darkly [my adolesence is back there] and with the prerequisite grain of salt [glad I'm not doing this back east where they liberally slather it over the roadways. ... Anyway to try and bring this to some kind of a point, after I have,  to quote my college English Professor "ejaculated all over the page"; I always look forward to your ramblings and especially appreciate your ruthless application of any tool available to make a point or shed light on concepts that are the actual reason for this blog, even when it involves holding up your own more unenlightened views and tendencies to scrutiny. ... Much like Uncle Aleister is presented to the world as a complete person with all the warts soiled laundry there to see. And like you presented Grady in your Red Flame biography; the highs and lows, triumphs and squabbles, everything pulled out of the closet; You present yourself for better or worse--the complete package, with no apologies.  I salute your bravery and dedication to the advancement of knowledge without fear. "The Emperor knows he has no clothes" This didn't start out to be a tribute; it just ended up that way. Glad to be your friend.  93 93/93, Ed." ......... Reply: Yes, it is true, I don't drive but I sure know alot about auto eroticism! Have you ever seen Kenneth Anger's film called Kustom Kar Kommandos (1965)? It’s one of my favorite and nothing is sexier than the car scene where the man lovingly washes and caresses his cherished customized machine with a powder puff to 1950s music like the Paris Sisters singing a beautiful version of Bobby Darin's Dream Lover. Gets me hot just thinking about it. Ken Anger calls this movie "Pygmalion and his machine mistress."

9:20am Well, after yesterday's barrage of emailing between what constitutes a man and a women's ability to grasp metaphors ... two women in particular, who have occasionally posted on this blog, have stated emphatically that they never want to talk to me again, nor will they ever email me. There was no reasoning with them. They simply took everything that I said and twisted it around into a Pit of Because. Boy did this blog hit a nerve yesterday! Oddly, nothing they really vomited had anything to do with what was being discussed on the blog. Instead of trying to understand High Magick metaphors both women wrote about totally unrelated subjects regarding men and our ‘dicks’ as being the ills of society “because we rape” and if only we “knew the truth”, we wouldn’t be talking so “lightly or with humor about your dicks.” I read these comments and others even more strange and thought – “What?” ... Anyway, both only confirmed what I’ve been saying all along about the female species ... you often don’t listen, you react emotionally rather than taking the time to try to understand us foul little creatures called men and you drag everything down to its lowest common denominator so that you have something to argue and fight about. ... So, let's all light a candle on our altars and say a humble good-bye to both Mari and Carol, sniffle, sniffle ... you will be missed. ....... Ok, I'm over it. What's today's topic going to be about?

6:55am For the history buffs: Pluto was discovered on this date in 1930 and I mention this as an inside joke in honor of the late Phyllis Seckler. …...... also, the cartoonist Gahan Wilson was born on this date in Evanston, Illinois also in 1930. He admits to being heavily influence by the artist Chas Adams, of The Adam’s Family fame, and by weird, haunting fantasy tales by H. P. Lovecraft. Gahan Wilson’s work first appeared in Amazing Stories in 1954, but he became nationally known through art in slick magazines including Colliers, Playboy, and later The New Yorker.

Tuesday February 17th 2009 – 6:04pm Jay writes - "93 Jerry, very amusing thread today. It's especially interesting that you started out by saying how you envy women, but ultimately ended up exemplifying the strengths and weaknesses of both sexes. It would seem that the women, by and large, responded to your metaphor emotionally, while the men, by and large, responded analytically. But to bring the whole matter full circle, if men have any reason to be envious of women it seems it should be for the simple fact that they don't earth out by masturbating. That's enough for me...Love, Jay 93 93/93." ......... Reply: Very well put.

4:30pm Oddly, I stand behind what Frank posted at 1:45pm because I’ve become inundated all afternoon by hostile female emails which only prove him to be 100% right. First, I don’t think some of you women fully grasp the ‘tongue-in-cheek humor. Most of today’s comments were metaphors and jokes. And second; even if Frank were serious, most of the comments that are coming in from women are no better than his but from the opposite spectrum of attacking all men. So who is right, and who is wrong? ... Many women who have written all seem to ignore Frank’s comments that you guys don’t fully listen to, nor understand metaphors and more often than not; instead of learning the higher spiritual aspects of magick in reference to the Greek axiom ‘As Above, So Below’, women will take what I, or other men are saying on this blog and will argue it and fight about a subject from the lowest common level - or from the ‘Below.’ ... I haven’t got one email today from any guys who have misunderstood this. Most guys and even some women, clearly understand that this blog is about magick, about spiritual metaphors and rather than becoming angry over a seemingly 'apparent' mundane jab at their sex, they contemplate what is being said from a higher point-of-view ... I am reminded what Crowley once wrote - "... the World of Magic is a mirror, wherein who sees muck is muck."   Think about it.

3:00pm Ah and Jerri replies, "93 You! ... My point was that you guys are all concerned with your bodies (Malkuth) and we are all concerned with our emotions (Yesod)...thus everything is all about the penis according to men and with us moony ladies, we can be reactionary and emotional...I was agreeing with you...just masked it in a disparaging funny (it had to be done)... Although it wasn't exactly the point, women as a group can make bad drivers. We tend to multi-task better than men, and often times we do this in the car. Makes for inattentiveness...and on that note, some black people eat fried chicken, some blondes are dumb, some Irish are drunks...and some gay people like pedophilia. Stereotypes come from somewhere and I suggest that we all stop being so sensitive and try to examine why. Besides, I'm fine. We all know that Asians are the bad drivers! :) 93 93/93 Jerri" ....... Reply: Yes, I agree with you, stereotypes are the bane of language as well as being a good joke. But all kidding aside, on Malkuth, Yesodian women-types really are bad drivers. You call it 'multi-tasking' but men looking into your car call it "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" ... and in a second email, a responce to Frank's 1:45pm posting, Jerri adds - "Perhaps Frank could speculate...upon what I was just wondering...how could we possibly be jealous of the "dick" when you guys are offering it up to us all of the time? It's practically ours already..."  ..... Reply: Ouch. ... isn't that another stereotype?  :/

2:15pm Dave from Oakland writes – “I always love getting into a car and feel my stick----does that make me a bad person?" ....... Reply: OK

1:45pm Frank sent an email. I wasn't going to post it. Now I am wondering, hey, why not? I didn't write it. Anyway, Frank writes - "To defend my species, women are just jealous of the 'dick' and they cloak it in anger. I understood exactly what you were saying metaphorically. Like most women they love to lower a topic down to the lowest common denominator and argue and fight about a subject rather than just shutting their mouth and listening.” ...... Reply: Frank, I hope you don’t let your wife read the blog.

1:00pm And one of my favorite little Piscean women, aka Jerri, read my 'driving' comments, ignored my 12:20pm posting and replied - "93 Jerry! Hmf...my experience, and many of my female counterparts experience with the male driver goes a bit like this: Often times, especially on the freeway it seems, you guys are hooting and hollering, oogling and whistling at us. You boys yelling the time honored--"Show us your tits!" or "Hey, are you over 18?!" Or my personal fave- "Wanna fuck, baby?!!" And, we certainly can't forget those charming hand gestures and uber-romantic tongue waggles... Seriously...even in the car you(r) dicks are driving!! Always...everything is for dick, about dick, acts like dick...dick, dick, dick!!!! If we are pretending to put on our make-up or talk on the phone or if we freak out and swerve, it's because we were minding our own business simply trying to drive to our destination before we were so rudely interupted by all the dicks on the road. ...so, yes...we certainly do get all emotional about the dick :) 93 93/93 Jerri." ....... Reply: (sigh) I was just joking and using a metaphor!  :(

12:20pm Ok, enough, stop sending me attitude emails attacking me about my comments claiming that women are bad drivers!  You all miss the point. I write in metaphor, which is a word taken from the Greek language meaning to "transfer" or to be more exact; a metaphor uses language that directly compares seemingly unrelated subjects. Yes, I was talking about 'cars' ... but I wasn't referring to actual cars!!!!

12:01pm Mary writes a quick, brief email to my 11:25am posting - "Jerry, you have a mean stick shift? Does it growl?"  .......... Reply:  Not if you pet it nicely.  :)

11:30am If the weather permits, we ARE going to try schedule an OPEN HOUSES at Love's Sake Clerk House on Friday February 20th at 6:30pm ... it looks like this non-stop torrential rain and thunderstorms are going to let up but you should call to be safe.

11:25am My cute little Japanerse female friend Mari writes - "Dear Jerry I only drive the stick shift cars. Everybody knows I have an excellent driving technique, too. Don't be sexist, Jerry. I was surprised that most American guys drive automatic (Maybe it's better in SF) European guys drive stickshifts. Lovely. Lately, Japanese guys drive more automatic cars like Americans. Not attractive. Maria." ....... Reply: All woman are good drivers, they've been telling us men that for years. No? Anyway, personally, I don't drive but I do know how to handle a mean stick shift!

8:55am Mary writes, “Thanks for answering my email. I basically already knew the answer but I liked your car analogy.”  ....... Reply: Thanks, but if you were a guy I would have added - ‘fondling the stick shift’ somewhere. Anyway, I was actually told this analogy by a woman friend years ago. She told me that basically she sees men as being more concerned with the outside of the car and how it looks while she appreciates the inside. Over the years I have come to realize that this is exactly how we both function; men on Malkuth, women in Yesod; one outward, the other inward, our penis extends, your vagina goes within ... men stare at a hot car, we lust for it and then want to climb inside ‘her’ ... As Above, So Below on so many levels. ...... hummmmm, an after thought, maybe this is the root as to why so many women are bad drivers? They occupy themselves in Yesod too much.

8:35am I will be adding stuff into my FOR SALEcatalogue all week long ... lots of First Edition Aleister Crowley stuff and rare Agape Lodge releases etc & etc.

8:15am I'd like to address an email from Mary. I replied in part - "You’ve asked quite a few amusing questions. In truth, I have told others how I am envious of women and their ability to magickally function at almost any step from Malkuth on up, on the Tree of Life. Crowley clearly knew this and it is why he looked for a ‘quality’ in a women in order for them to become his Scarlet Women, rather than any actual teaching them anything to make them such. ... Men, on the other hand, we are very limited. Whereas you function naturally in the emotions and dream world of Yesod, we guys are stuck in Malkuth or body oriented. Men have an almost impossible task learning sex magick because if we talk too much about sex we stand the chance of becoming aroused, we get a hard on and we’ll blindly go off trying to get laid on Malkuth with any hole that presents itself. I once pointed out on my blog that Crowley has written that unless you are – “not wholly emancipated from the obsession of sex” you can never learn the art of sex magick. ... But what does that mean, to be “emancipated from the obsession of sex”? Critics argue that Crowley’s life of sexual depravity, decadence and debauchery hardly epitomizes someone not ‘obsessed’ with sex; as in truth my own life does too. But Crowley and even myself, have simply learned to become comfortable in our skin. Quantity of 'sex' is no longer important as much as 'quality' ... a key to VIIth Degree OTO and Chastity. But admittedly in Crowley's case it was both, but in mine I'm quite contented with just one women at a time. ... Anyway, as magicians, we clearly recognize that the Kundalini exists in Yesod. We know that the ‘serpent’ becomes aroused within this sphere but it is not at a spiritual stage because Yesod, being ruled by the Moon, is the sphere of dreams; of our animalistic nature and sexual drives. It is our libido in its sexual phase. White light schools like the Golden Dawn, which are rooted in Christian thought, simply tell us to avoid our sexual urges as a means of putting our animalist soul under control. This is typical Christian avoidance and bullshit ... as a Thelemites Crowley tells us to explore it. ... There is no sin. ... But how you ‘explore’ your sexuality is different than Crowley, than me or anyone else. If we shun something, or deny its existence from a psychological point-of-view it’ll only rear its ugly little head as phobias and psychosis. But don't take that wrong; I'm not saying go out and sleep with everyone and become a slut, like so many guys in the OTO so often claim ... in truth, exploring your sexuality is a personal, private thing beginning with the mind and simply trying to come to terms with your Zodiac sign, its sexual proclivities and its relationship with the body that you picked to incarnate into. Understanding your incarnation on Malkuth (body) and Yesod (libido) is just like driving a car ... first you slide in behind the steering wheel, you then adjusted the seat, find the right station on the radio, you look in the mirror, you then began playing with all the knobs and buttons, and when you felt comfortable, you turn on the motor. Vroom vroom and off you went."

7:00am For the history buffs: The Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno died on this date in 1600. He had refused to retract any of his philosophical opinions before the Inquisition of Rome and was condemned as ‘an impenitent and pertinacious heretic.’ He was publicly burned at the stake on this date in a place called Campo dei Fiori (Square of Flowers) Rome. ........... and Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, one of the founding members of the Theosophical Society with Madame Blavatsky, died on this date in 1907. ............ and finally, on February 17, 1986 that Jiddu Krishnamurti died at the age of 90 in Ojai, California. One of his students once commented that “Listening to Krishnamurti speak was like eating a sandwich made of bread and sand.” Although his writings are far more clear; like when he wrote, “All authority of any kind, especially in the field of thought and understanding, is the most destructive, evil thing. Leaders destroy the followers and followers destroy the leaders. You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple. You have to question everything that man has accepted as valuable, as necessary.”

Monday February 16th 2009 – 7:25am I've added a bunch more of my favorite old perverse photos and gifs onto my 'Favorite Archive' page; this is an X-rated page. If you are sensitive, or easily offended, don't go here.

6:30am For the history buffs: Christopher Marlowe, the English dramatist and poet, was born on this date in Canterbury, England in 1564, the son of a shoemaker. He was expected to enter his father’s business but instead he was offered a scholarship by the Archbishop of Canterbury and entered Cambridge University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1584 and a master’s in 1587. However, instead of entering the clergy as expected, Marlowe headed off to London and the theatre. He was soon writing plays for an acting company called the Admiral’s Men. Although he also wrote light verse, like The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, his major works were tragedies, for which he is best known, like Doctor Faustus. His death on May 30 1593 is shrouded in mystery. The long-accepted version is that he and two close friends were dinning in a tavern in Deptford. The two quarreled over paying the bill, and in the fight that followed, Marlowe grabbed for his friend’s dagger and attacked him. However, his friend managed to wrestle the dagger from Marlowe and stabbed the author fatally in the eye. Marlowe was buried on June 1, 1593. ............ Also, Charles Webster Leadbeater was born on this date in 1854. Ironically, he often wrote, for no apparent reason, that he was actually born on February 17, 1847 yet his surviving birth records clearly point out that this was not the case. He claimed to have been trained for clairvoyance by an Indian Master and later he became one of the prominent researchers in the field of human consciousness. He applied his knowledge by supporting several occult movements, particularly the Theosophical Society where he was a close associate of Annie Besant. He was also a Rosicrucian, a Martinist, and a prominent member of the Egyptian Rite of Memphis-Misraïm. He was even ordained an Anglican priest. Then in 1906 he was arrested. On May 16th he went on trial for sexually abusing childrem. He claimed that his clairvoyant examination of little boys simply enabled him to know when the children were having ‘sexual difficulties’ and in need of advice. Others argued that his advice was merely an excuse to masturbate the boys. Due to his proclivities Leadbeater was forced to resign from the Theosophical Society. However, over the objections of some members, he was readmitted three years later. Aleister Crowley condemned Leadbeater in The Equinox Vol.I No.X as a “senile sex-maniac.” He died on March 1, 1934. ............ and on February 16, 1878 Pamela Colman Smith, nicknamed ‘Pixie,’ was born in England to American parents. She grew up in Jamaica but later returned to England. In the late 1890’s she joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn where she met Arthur Edward Waite. At the time she was a struggling artist, illustrator, and writer but her chief claim to fame was designing the Tarot deck used by Arthur Edward Waite and later referred to as the Rider-Waite deck. She also did illustrations for the works of William Butler Yeats. She died on September 18, 1951. ............ But also important to mention, Raoul Loveday, Frater AUD, aka Adonis, died at the Abbey of Cefalu on this date in 1923. Some claim that his death had to do with drinking cat’s blood, others claim in was drinking ‘bad water.’ Three days earlier Crowley recorded in his Magical Record that he felt a current of magical force, “heavy black and silent” threatening the Abbey.

Sunday February 15th 2009 – 3:50am For the history buffs: on this date in 1750 the author Richard Payne Knight was born at Wormesley Grange in Herefordshire, England. He was a classical scholar best known for his interest in ancient phallic imagery and for his book titled The Worship of Priapus. He died on April 23, 1824. ............  The author Arthur Sarsfield Ward was born on this date in Birmingham, Englandin 1883.  He is probably most famous as the creator of Fu-Manchu, using the pen name of Sax Rohmer. Some historians have claimed that he was a member of The Hermetic Order of The Golden dawn but there isn’t the slightest evidence to support this claim. He died on June 1, 1959 in White Plains, New York of pneumonia and a stroke. ............  it was on February 15, 1891 that the first installment of Joris-Karl Huysman’s LA BAS appeared in a newspaper in France exposing ‘Satanism’. Aleister Crowley would later comment in a letter to his student Jane Wolfe, dated November 20th 1928, that “Huysman’s ‘La Bas’ was written entirely about me. He was even thoughtful enough to do it thirty years before I was born. I was very touched by the attention.” ............ And finally, on February 15, 1941 Jack & Helen Parsons join the Ordo Templi Orientis taking Minerval & First Degree on the same evening at the Agape Lodge in southern California. Jack would later take the Oath of a Probationer in the AA under Wilfred T. Smith on March 22nd. He took the magickal motto of ‘Thelema Obtentum Procedero Amoris Nuptiae’, which Crowley later commented was “couched in a language beyond my powers of understanding.”
