~ July 14th - 31st 2010 ~

Saturday July 31st 2010 – 7:46am Alrah and I have been corresponding of late. Yesterday I wrote to her – “Sorry for not writing more, my life’s been crazy this last week with my computer woes. I don’t do well outside my comfy zone. I’m such a Cancer. I’m finally settling down and hope by Sunday to have some semblance of sanity back, if I ever had any at all in the first place.” ….....  She replied back - “Well - that's to be expected. You're a hermit type. If you're routinely using other area's of your brain than folks normally do until a system wide rewiring occurs over the years, then a certain comfort zone is necessary so you don't blow a fuse. I suppose the trick is to accommodate this lifestyle necessity while not allowing it to become disabling.  It's something aspies, who are born to different brain functioning learn to do. The ones who do not are rather sad creatures, closed off to changes and opportunities that would bring them a great deal of happiness and joy, as well as more stress and potential overload of course. The boundaries of their comfort zone become a prison as they wall themselves off from life - and all their savant talents go to waste.  All because they didn't learn when to recognize opportunity and accept that a certain level of discomfort sometimes is the price for self fulfillment and happiness. I suppose I'm the archetypal Gemini gambler that way. I like my comfort zone too, but what's life without a little bit of a risk?  It keeps me young.” ….....  I smiled and wrote back – “I understand about comfy zones because I was born under the sign of Cancer, the Crab, this means that once I have my claws into a form of security I rarely give it up. On the most mundane level stability is so important to me, both mundane and internally. When this is achieved and in harmony, I can easily move between these two extremes either as a land roaming crab (extrovert) or as one that walks in the water (introvert), changing daily like the Moon itself, for which my sign rules. However, I must be honest; my subjective world has always appealed to me far more than what the reality of an objective world could offer. I’ve always felt that wallowing in my mind is a terrible thing to waste.” …..... And this morning Alrah replied – “Hmmmm. That must be complicated a little by those Sun, Moon & Ascendant trines?  (Very nice).  But Oh dear... you poor thing!  No wonder you had so many Scorpio women...  *wince*  By Sephariel's reckoning based on your Mars, you would have been better off with a Cancerian like yourself or (sidereally - yes, I know I know, just shoot yourself now, lol) a Gemini.  Your Cancerian Sun may be perfectly in harmony with your Scorpio moon, but unless she has a similar aspect then all the 'relating' between Cancer & Scorp is left on your plate with her going 'huh?'  (((Jerry))).  Well - not long now until your angels of technological mercy come along and bless your digital beast with a simulacrum of intelligence.” ….....  and just now I wrote back – “Long ago I had my Sidereal Birth Chart done; it claims I’m a Gemini Sun, Gemini Rising with Mars in Gemini in the First House.  Oh please, just shoot me.  I read up on Gemini and it doesn’t come close to fitting my lifestyle and moods … But at least with my Sidereal Chart my Moon remains in Scorpio.  Anyway, I agree … I should look for a Cancer woman but I haven’t found one yet, nor ever dated one. Odd isn’t it? I think the Gods know that I’m compatible with such foul little creatures; they snicker, are cruel and keep them away from me. I guess happiness for me will always be a mud crab slipping away with the tide … and then as I turn around and away from the water I always seem to find this Scorpion starring at me. And like a fool I say, “What the Hell, why not?”  You’d think I’d learn?  Have I mentioned that my first wife was an Aquarius?  Now that was an amusing period of my life … I say with a reoccurring twitch. I don’t even mention her name anymore out of fear that I’d evoke her from the depths of Hell!”

6:45am Remember my postings on July 9th about Paul the Octopus in Germany who actually picked the World Cup soccer winners ... well, it was only a matter of time before Las Vegas got involved. It seems that there is a huge octopus, whom some have named Oscar, at the Shark Reef Aquarium who has entered the sports prediction arena. This morning he aggressively selected Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez as the winner over Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz in tonight's boxing match.  Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said - “Let’s see if the octopus that picked Marquez to win Saturday night will be as accurate as Paul was during the World Cup.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:37am For the History buffs: The Norse celebrate this day in honor of the trickster god Loki and his consort Sigyn. …..... and Ignatius of Loyala was born on this day in 1556 in the Loyala family castle in Guipúzcoa, Spain, the youngest of 13 children, died on this date. He was the founder of an order called The Society of Jesus, or Jesuit Order. He was canonized in 1622; declared by Pope Pius XI to be the patron of spiritual exercises and retreats.

Friday July 30th 2010 – Tonight's Open House will begin at about 6:30pm ... and being near supper, feel free to bring something to eat and drink and don't feel obligated to bring enough for anyone other than yourself. Although extra beer is always welcomed.

8:50am On the 28th Joe wrote – “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. I was thinking and wondering what an Epistle called "On Lucid Dreaming" would look like by Jerry Cornelius. When I meet someone for the first time it is always one of my questions for them, and I am amazed when some folks say they have never had a lucid Dream- and that they do not really understand what I am talking about. Since it is, for me, one of the most amazing parts of being alive, I feel that they are being cheated out of the most wondrous state of mind a person can have.  My astral work does not compare to the lucid dreams that I have had, and the ones in which am able to do memorized workings " while inside of them "  Upon entering a lucid dream, I get to stay there by doing Liber Resh Vel Helios- and then I am not there "for long." Anyhoo my question for you, have you ever had Lucid Dreams ? If so how do you compare them to traveling in the Astral ? Can you recall what does Crowley have to say about it - or has Grady ever spoken with you about lucid dreams? (Meanwhile... I will have to check my Magick Without Tears !) I hope this message finds you healthy and happy and enjoying a greasy cheeseburger and cold beer! Agape JOE from BEVERLY Love is the law, love under will.”

Reply: I’ve been doing the practice of dreaming true since childhood by it really exploded in my archetype around 1967. Anyway, I got really good at going from a normal waking state into a dream-state with no apparent lapse in my consciousness; often with my eyes wide open these ‘dreams’ became vivid and real. … Of course the Dutch psychiatrist Frederik van Eeden (1860–1932) would call it a ‘lucid dream.’ As you know, it occurs when an individual is actually aware that they are dreaming and are actively participating in the manipulation of the imaginary in the dream-like environment. In someway lucid dreaming is simply perfecting a daydream but this latter term often draws to mind as being something that is a tool for the lazy, or as being a non-productive pastime.

As for everyone doing it, the answer would be no. A lot of people, due to childhood, their parents and peer pressure, kill their daydreaming ability in their adolescence. This is sad.  Others simply cannot do it affectively do to conflicts in their birth chart.

The question is; what is the purpose of a good lucid dream? If you are using it for escapism it is merely a frivolous distraction. On the other hand, it can be a very constructive tool and psychology is quick to point out numerous examples of individuals in creative fields from art, writing and poetry etc, as well as inventors and scientists, who develop new ideas when daydreaming about their given subject, or by falling asleep with their mind ‘consciously focusing on a problem’ and then waking up in the morning charged and energized with solutions. Anyway, what do you think a Gnostic is? The Gnostics derive their name from the Greek word meaning ‘knowledge,’ or Gnosis. It means that you are obtaining knowledge through channels not ordinarily opened to most.

As for the difference between lucid dreams and astral projection; one stays within one’s mind while the other goes without.

Off hand I have no recollection of Crowley’s comments but he must have written about somewhere, he covered so many topics. I don’t recal ever taking with Grady on this topic.
Well, must run … hope this has been helpful.

7:42am Ed Wormuth sent me an email, he writes - "93 Jerry, Techie things working all right for me at the moment.  I was offered a free download from Audible.com, ostensibly for my new kindle, and got "Stranger in a Strange Land" which I hadn't read in over 40 years.  My wife got this cool device that plays ones ipod through the fm of the car and I started listening to the Heinlein classic on my trips up the coast. What to my surprise...Michael Valentine Smith, the man from Mars is trying to grok religion. And studies the books of religions major and minor trying to get a handle on it, including "Crowley's 'Book of the Law".  That certainly got my attention as i think I originally read this a few years before I made my visit to the "Three Rings" book store on the Monterey wharf and picked out "Magick in Theory and Practice" which introduced me to "liber Al". "Stranger" came out in '61 and I didn't find that 1st Crowley book till '68 or '69 so that passage couldn't have rung any bells the 1st time I read it. I'm curious where Heinlein was exposed to Crowley and can only guess that he might have run with the writer's crowd that included, Bradbury, Hubbard et all in Pasadena during the Heyday of Agape' Lodge. Any insights? 93 93/93, ."Ed

I replied: Ed 93 Have you ever heard of the old magazine titled GREEN EGG (wiccan magazine),The Official Journal of the Church of All Worlds out of Ukiah, CA?  It began on April 7, 1962 at Westminster College at Fulton, Missouri after Tim Zell and Lance Christie read Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land. Afterwards they ‘shared water’ and formed a water-brotherhood called ‘Atl.’ During the mid-1960s their group was centered on the University of Oklahoma campus under the name Atlan Foundation. They published a periodical, titled The Atlan Torch, between 1962-1968. Following a move to St. Louis 1968 the ‘Church of All Worlds’ (CAW) was born and became incorporated on this date; or March 4, 1968.

This was the first Wiccan church to do so in the United States. The mission of the Church of All Worlds was to evolve a network of information, mythology and experience that provides a context and stimulus for re-awakening Gaia, and re-uniting her children through tribal community dedicated to responsible stewardship and evolving consciousness. In the same month they released the first issue of Green Egg  The Church of All Worlds took much of its inspiration from Robert Heinlein’s science fiction classic Stranger in a Strange Land. In this novel a human being named Valentine Michael Smith, who was born on Mars and raised by Martians, returned to Earth in 2519. He established the Church of All Worlds, built around ‘nests’, a combination of congregations and intentional communities. A basic concept was ‘grokking’, i.e., the ability to be fully empathic. Heinlein’s CAW emphasized non-possessive love and joyous expression of sexuality as divine union. Their greeting was ‘Thou art God’ or ‘Thou art Goddess’, recognition of  immanent divinity in each person. The basic theology of the CAW is a pantheism focused on immanent rather than transcendent divinity, which is worshiped in female as well as a male form.

Anyway, three issues of GREEN EGG in particular carried an interesting series. These were:
Vol.XXV, No. 97, Summer 1992 This issue contains a 4 pg article, Part One,
by the late OTO initiate Adam Rostoker titled ‘WHENCE CAME THE
STRANGER.” It goes in-depth into Robert Heinlein’s Thelemic views
and Crowleyian connections.
Vol.XXV No.98 Autumn 1992, This issue contains a 4 pg article, Part Two
by the late OTO initiate Adam Rostoker titled ‘WHENCE CAME THE
STRANGER.”  It goes in-depth into Robert Heinlein’s Thelemic views
and Crowleyian connections.
Vol.XXV No.99  Winter 1992-93. This issue has Part Three, or the
Conclusion to the late OTO initiate Adam Rostoker article titled
‘WHENCE CAME THE STRANGER,” pg.10. And in the Letter Forum
section, pg.44-46, are letters re: Rostoker’s article ‘WHENCE CAME
THE STRANGER.”

You might also try to find GRUMBLES FROM THE GRAVE by Robert Heinlein [Del Rey Books1983 PB] it’s his bio and it briefly mentions his beliefs on Crowley etc.

Crowley’s ‘Do what thou wilt’ is also found in Heinlein’s JOB: A Comedy of Justice [NY: Del Rey Books 1983 PB]

More important, hunt down a copy of ROCKET TO THE MORGUE by Anthony Boucher [NY: Dell Publishing Co., Inc. Paperback. 1942] Anthony Boucher is the alias for Jack Parson’s friend William A. H. White. See In Sex and Rockets, The Occult World of Jack Parsons by John Carter, on pg 79-80, it points out that Boucher’s main character Hugo Chantrelle is based on Jack Parsons. It also lists who is who, from characters based on Ed Forman, Robert Heinlein to Jack Williamson and others. For refrence, in the back of this paperback, is taped a small photocopy of the pages from Carter’s book .

Finally, on January 20, 1972 we have a letter from Robert A. Heinlein to a friend where he briefly discusses a verse from Aleister Crowley’s The Book of the Law, stating :  “Certainly ‘Do what thou wilt is the whole of the Law’ is correct when looked at properly - in fact it is a law of nature, not an injunction, nor a permission. But it is necessary to remember that it applies to everyone - including lynch mobs. The Universe is what It is, and It never forgives mistakes - not even ignorant ones.”

Hope all this gives you some food for thought … if you’re really interested, I think I have scans of all the stuff mentioned above; I could throw them on a disk if you’d like?

7:00am For the history buffs: On this date in 1390 the trial of Marion la Droituriere began. She was accused of hiring Margot de la Barre to make her ex-lover impotent. ……...… and it was on this date in 1925, Dr William Wynn Westcott, who was a dedicated physician and Coroner for North East London, died in Durban, Republic of  South Africa of Bright’s disease. He was the author of several medical texts, an active Freemason, and is best remembered for having created the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (HOGD) with Samuel Liddel Mathers and Dr. William Woodman, sometime before February 12, 1888.

Thursday July 29th 2010  – 6:50am July 29th is the celebration of Saint Martha & the Dragon. Martha was the sister of Mary Magdalene and Lazarus. Remember, in John’s gospel he writes, “Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus.” Yet after the crucifixion, according to some legends, Martha, her brother, sister, and others were set adrift, from what is now Israel, without a rudder, sail or food. However, they inevitably survived and landed safely in Marseilles, France. They then traveled inland to Aix where Martha’s preaching converted many a heathen to Christianity. When Martha arrived in Nerluc, near Saintes Marie de la Mer, she found a town plagued for over twenty years by a hideous beast-like dragon which the townsfolk called the Tarasque. Martha listens to their stories about this beast and then sets out, bear-footed, to search for the creature. When she finds it, she makes the sign of a cross which, according to legend, stops the dragon as if it were pierced by a sword, while sprinkling Holy Water upon it to quench his ‘fire’ breathing antics and make him submissive. She then uses his sharp tooth to cut off her own braids which she then uses as a bridle to lead him back in town, tame as a lamb. However, the townspeople went berserk upon seeing the dragon and they kills the Tarasque with a shower of stones and, although Martha weeps, she forgives the people’s action because she understands their long-time suffering. Legends describes the dragon as being enormous with a body like an ox but with six short bear-like legs with enormous claws. On his body he has two shields like those of a turtle but covered with curved spikes, and the rest of his body is covered with closely overlapping scales that formed his armor. His tail is long and curved like a scorpion. His head is that of a lion, yet with a horse’s ears, but his face, with eyebrows and mustache, is that of a sad and bitter old man. The Tarasque was described as being an evil fire-breathing beast.

6:45am For the history buffs: On this date in 1566 Agnes Waterhouse was hanged. She and her daughter Elizabeth, were two of the Chelmsford Witches tried in the first major trial after the institution of the Elizabethan statute against Witchcraft in 1563. Agnes was originally accused of bewitching a child and of other wicked deeds but in her confession, obtained through torture, she told tales of worshipping Satan, who appeared to her in the form of a spotted cat, and later as a toad. Satan taught her and her daughter how to do many evil deeds from murder to bewitchment. Agnes also claimed that they both fed their own blood to the cat after pricking herself. This was proved by the shape of certain blemishes on both of their bodies. In the end, Agnes was hanged on this date and Elizabeth, seemingly acquitted now, was hanged thirteen years later in a second trial. …...…. Also, Pascal Beverly Randolph, the 19th Century Adept and author of The Magia Sexualis, shot himself in head and died on this date in 1875 in Toledo Ohio. He is credited with being the first overt spokesman in the west of sexual ‘gnosis’ which he claimed had been hidden for centuries in layers of religious symbolism. He is said to be the founder of The Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor (c.1881) which is also known as the Brotherhood of Eulis. After his death he was succeeded by a Mr. Freeman B Dowd on April 15, 1907, who was succeeded by Dr. Edward H. Brown, who in turn was succeeded by R. Swinburne Clymer. …...…. And it was on July 29, 1924 that Elizabeth Virginia Short was born to Cleo and Phoebe Short in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. During the Depression the family fell on hard times and Cleo simply abandoned his wife and five daughters by faking his suicide. His empty car was discovered near a bridge and the authorities believed that he had jumped into the river below. Years later, when he resurfaced in California, Elizabeth, who always wanted to be an actress, came out and briefly stayed with him. Her claim to fame came on January 15, 1947 when a passerby spotted a nude body in a vacant lot near Hollywood. The dead woman seemed posed, lying on her back with her arms raised over her shoulders, her legs spread eagled. She had been cut in half at the waist. Her face and body had been slashed viciously. Rope marks on her ankles, wrists and neck suggested a very nasty scene before she died. After she was identified as Elizabeth Short the press dubbed her The Black Dahlia because of her black hair and black attire. Her murder still haunts the Los Angeles Police Department since the heinous crime was first committed back in 1947. …...…. And finally, Stanton T. Friedman was born on this date in New Jersey in 1934. He worked fourteen years as a nuclear physicist with highly classified, eventually cancelled projects as nuclear aircraft, fission and fusion rockets, and nuclear power plants for space. He has always been interested in Flying Saucers and since 1967 he has lectured on the topic “Flying Saucers ARE Real” at more than 600 colleges and over 100 professional groups in 50 states, 9 Provinces, England, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Holland, France, Finland, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Korea, Mexico and Israel. He has published more than 70 papers on UFOs besides his dozens of conventional articles, and appeared on hundreds of radio and TV shows. He wrote the book The Quest for Truth about UFOs (2003).

Wednesday July 28th 2010  –  9:00am Alrah writes - "93 Jerry, Just a random lateral thought in passing... maybe the astral critters that knocked specific books off your shelf were wanting you to use bibliomancy with them? :-)  Alrah.  93 93/93."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8:45am Dave Solina writes - "Jerry, 93 Thanks for the kind wished, you are a very dear friend, I am sorry that the gift caused any trouble, and I understand your frustration. Working with "plastic monsters" all day for a living has made me become a master of computer S&M and somewhat jaded to the pain. I will make sure we have the time to do the transition when I am in town, and can help with the software. Cheers 93 93/93 DFF."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:34am A great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to Dave Solina in Florida. I’ll throw down a few beers for you tonight in your honor, wish you were here to join in. ... And despite all the aggravation with the computer that you gave me, I know I'll be great once it gets up and running and I do appreciate it. I really do. But personally, I just like to bitch. I got this way living with a three Scorpios; one for eight years, another for three and the last one for twelve years. You'd think I'd learn? ... Have a great day!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:30am For the history buffs: Nuit Ma Ahathoor Hecate Sappho Jezebel Lilith was born on this date in 1904 to Aleister Crowley and his wife Rose. Sadly she would not live long and she died shortly afterwards. Duncombe Jewell remarked later that she had died of “acute nomenclature.”

Tuesday July 27th 2010 – 3:05pm In regards to my last posting Matt writes - “93 Jerry, What I'm thinking is that I'll copy my fonts - which I'm sure probably include many of the same astrological and hermetic ones that you had - onto a USB memory stick and then just transfer them from the stick over to the fonts folder on your computer.  I'm pretty sure this will work.  I just need time to get a memory stick.  I should be ready to do this Saturday at the latest - I get out of class at 3pm that day.  I might be able to make do Thursday or Friday, but not totally sure on that. ...  I'll email you.  Sound good? 93s, Matt.”

Reply: Great! It sounds like this will work just fine. I’m in the middle of reviewing my book on astrology; my manuscript looks like Hell and I’m going mad trying to decipher stuff it.  Or maybe I was mad already?
My phone is back up and running.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1:30pm To address an incoming email concern. Yes, I know its all (most likely) easy fixes but not being a computer oriented person means that everything is a major fuck-up in my mind. And sitting here alone in my apartment, waiting for ‘help’ to arrive 'someday' is nerve wracking for a Cancer who has been thrown outside their comfy zone. Technology and I are like water and oil; we don’t mix. Simply telling me to do this, click here, download this and it should be fine sounds like “bla bla bla.” ... I am more of a Right Brain kinda person; you know, the writer, dreamer and artist. You Left Brain people are the logical ones in mundane matters, not me!  I'd rather crawl into my shell and hide.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1:07pm Ah, another major problem has arisen with my new computer. It seems Windows 7 has no astrological symbols in its font file. When I went on the menu bar I hit "Insert" and could not locate one font which has astrological, planetary or magickal symbols. Worse yet, this new Windows 7 program automatically changed every single symbol to gibberish in all my manuscripts making twenty years of typing worthless to view and print copies without scrutiny. Ya, I got a fast computer but my life's work has been reduced to crap ... anyone out there know how to fix this mess, or where I can, or if I can download astrological fonts?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5:40am For the history buffs: Dr. William Moriarty, the real figure on whom Dion Fortune based her character called Dr. Taverner in her book titled The Secrets of Dr. Taverner, was born in Dublin, Ireland on this date in 1873. Contrary to popular opinion, Dr. Taverner was not based upon Aleister Crowley. It has been written that “Moriarty was not an MD. He was not even a PhD. He just fibbed a little.” …....…. And Robert ‘Bobby’ Kenneth Beausoleil, aka Cupid, Jasper, Cherub, Robert Lee Hardy and Jason Lee Daniels, killed Gary Hinman on this date in California in 1969. Beausoleil was part of Charles Manson’s Family. He was eventually convicted and sentenced to death but it was commuted to Life when California briefly outlawed the death penalty in 1972. In the sixties he had briefly been the lover of the underground film producer Kenneth Anger and had even supplied him with the soundtrack for his film Lucifer Rising. Beausoleil also acted in the original film version of Lucifer Rising which later mysteriously disappeared. He played the part of Lucifer. After their falling out, Kenneth Anger began referring to him as ‘The Toad.’ …..….. also, on July 27, 1979 the movie The Amityville Horror opened in theaters. It is tenuously based on a true story about a large haunted house on the coast of Long Island in which George and Kathy Lutz and their three children move into. They are unaware that all the strange happenings might be caused by the fact that a murder took place in the house several years back. The Lutz family inevitably turns to their family priest Father Delaney who performs an exorcism but the evil spirit in the house causes him to become blind and makes him very ill. George and Kathy with the help of another priest Father Bolen, and a police detective, face the fears of the house, but are yet unaware that the spirit is planning to possess George and then kill the children. …...…. And finally, on July 27, 2003 Helen Parsons Smith, the ex-wife of both Wilfred T. Smith and Jack Parsons of Agape Lodge O.T.O. fame, died at the age of 93 in California. Her body was cremated and her ashes scattered over Lake Tahoe.

Monday July 26th 2010 – 9:35pm Today ends on a positive note. I guess the Gods do like me. At 9:00pm my phone went beep, beep, beep … I got up, picked it up & I got a dial tone. I immediately tried to use it and it works!  Yes! I guess the bitching at AT&T paid off!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2:50pm Well, I have a great high speed internet via DSL through AT&T but AT&T shut my land-line phone off in the process by accident ... most likely thinking that I won't need the line because I must have a cell phone!
... and they can't come out until Thursday to fix it!  What idiots!
In other words, you can’t reach me by phone, nor even by the phone at the front of my apartment to be let in. I can only be reached by email. … but at least I have high speed Internet ... and I can read your emails quickly!
... and have I mentioned that my AOL crashed today thanks to my new computer ... and I got no Adobe, no scanner and my astrology program can't be uploaded thanks to Windows 7! ... and many of my old files can't even be read properly or like they use to be thanks to this new FUCKING Windows 7!!!!!!!!  ... Aughhhhhhh!
So what have I been doing today?  I had to hook up my old computer simply to be able to read and work on my files!  Yes, I now need two computers ... one for my website and internet and the other for my old Word files!
I’m going crazy with so many changes.  It’s a Crab’s nightmare! ... By the weekend I'll be chewing nails (or most likely by Wednesday). Anyway, I'm already planning on hiding this weekend, being emotional and drinking myself into a stupor so I can forget this week.
I'm going to start to drink in a few hours as a kind of dress rehearsal.

p.s. Windows Vista and 7 SUCK!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:20am After days of computer woes, aughhs & screams, I'm sort of up and running. I cannot thank Dave Solina enough for the new computer but the nightmare is the fact that Discover Windows 7, the latest, is not compatible with many old programs and we're having a nightmare of a time getting things to work. At least we got my website kinda working and I'm connected to the Internet etc. ... I'm about 80% crawling right now ... I guess life is good but it's never perfect.  I fear it'll take me a week to get use to things.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:15am Alrah replied to yesterday's post where I wrote - "Great advice but I already drank alot, pee'd in the damn computer ... and it's not working any better.  What is tip 4?"   She writes:

*giggles*
*giggles some more*
*gives up and kills herself laughing*
I guess that's one weapon you just can't put out of harms way.  :D
It's a sticky situation....  :D
But your word for today is :  Fructiculose,  (producing much fruit).  I think you skipped to tip 4 last night.  :D
Best,
Alrah.

6:10am For the history buffs: George Bernard Shaw was born on this date at 3 Upper Synge Street in Dublin Ireland in 1856. He was a noted Irish dramatist, literary critic, a socialist spokesman, and a leading figure in the 20th century theater. He was a man of whom Aleister Crowley wrote, “... was engaged in public exhibitions of rapier play; his subtlety made his colleagues doubt his sincerity.” …........…  also, Carl Jung was born on this date in Kesswil, a Swiss hamlet near the falls of the Rhine in 1875. His grandfather, a Rosicrucian freethinker was reputed to have been an illegitimate son of Goethe. He was one of the great explorers on our “inner space” and, besides a strong background in Freudian theory, he had an apparently inexhaustible knowledge of mythology, religion, and philosophy in general. Jung was especially knowledgeable in the symbolism of complex mystical traditions such as Gnosticism, Alchemy, Kabala, and similar traditions in Hinduism and Buddhism, all of which he brought into his theories about human archetypes.  …........…  and Aldous Huxley was born on this date in Surrey, England in 1894. He was a novelist best known for his books titled The Devils of Loudun (1952), The Doors of Perception (1954) and Heaven and Hell (1956). Numerous historians and biographers of this gentleman have always stated that there is absolutely no proof to even support any allegations that Aleister Crowley ever met Huxley and, least of all, that Huxley would become fascinated with altered states of consciousness after dropping mescaline given to him by the Great Beast. But let’s reflect upon some of the facts. We know that Aldous Huxley was visiting Berlin while Aleister Crowley was living in the city. This fact is mentioned in one of Huxley’s biographies where it states that “Aldous had gone on to Berlin and Paris, accompanying his friend Sullivan on a ‘tour of great men’ ... a most entertaining piece of sightseeing.” This was in late September, early October of 1930. It appears that Huxley was traveling with his dear friend John William Navin Sullivan (1886-1937) who at the time was on ‘a tour of great men’  interviewing as many eminent scientists as he could find for an upcoming book. We also know, Sullivan was a friend of Aleister Crowley’s. In fact, in Crowley’s unpublished diaries on October 2nd 1930 he mentions that he received a “letter from Sullivan - who arrives tonight with Aldous Huxley” According to other diary entries he had “dinner & Mikado &c with Sullivan & Huxley,” and again on another day, “Spent evening with Huxley & Sullivan at Muenchner Hofbraeu one of those large mediocre places which delight the grossness of Sullivan ... Huxley improves on acquaintance. We left him, very tired, at 1 A.M. Sunday.” So we can put to rest some of the stories by saying that Aleister Crowley definitely did meet Aldous Huxley. Although there is no indication in Crowley’s diaries as to what they discussed, it is highly unlikely that magick, drugs or Liber AL vel Legis were not mentioned, these being Crowley’s favorite topics of discussion. As far as Huxley being introduced to mescaline, although Crowley’s diaries do not specifically mention Anhalonium lewinii (peyote cactus), this was his drug of choice during that period of his life, and it is safe to assume that he shared with his friends. There is story worth mentioning. Aldous Huxley died on November 22nd 1963, shortly after his wife Laura gave him LSD for the ‘passage.’  …........… and finally, on this date in 1943 Michael Phillip Jagger was born on this date in Dartford, Kent, England. He dropped out of London’s School of Economics to be a rock star and he formed The Rolling Stones which began recording in 1963. The band struck stardom in 1965 with their international hit  (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. During the late 60’s Mick Jagger became associated with the underground film producer, and avid Crowleyite, Ken Anger and he did the music for Anger’s 1969 film version of Invocation of My Demon Brother.

Sunday July 25th 2010 – 6:00pm  Alrah writes - "93 Jerry, Sounds like I spoke too soon.  If I can help (re: computer problems) let me know...  Tip 1... please put down the bottle.  Terrible things happen when you mix computers and drink.  And hard drive amnesia does not get better when you sober up.  :-)  Tip 2... don't swear at the computer.  It'll just sulk.  If you call it something like 'darling' or 'sweetheart' instead then it'll behave better.  (Maybe that kind of animism is more about changing your own attitude towards it - but hey - it seems to work.  :D )  Tip 3... Remove all hammers, axes, and weapons in general from the vicinity.  Good luck, and I'll be thinking about you in your hours of need.  Alrah.  93 93/93."

Reply: Great advice but I already drank alot, pee'd in the damn computer ... and it's not working any better.  What is tip 4?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am experiencing technical difficulties as I switch over my old computer to a new one and hook up DSL.  I may be off-line awhile [and drinking heavily].   :(

Saturday July 24th 2010 –  [no postings]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday July 23rd 2010 – Tonight's Open House will begin at about 6:30pm ... and being near supper, feel free to bring something to eat and drink and don't feel obligated to bring enough for anyone other than yourself. Although extra beer is always welcomed .... this evening at 8:00pm we'll be showing the following DVD:

IN SEARCH OF THE GREAT BEAST
Aleister Crowley, The Wickedest Man in the World
Directed by Robert Garofalo, Produced by Lyn Beardsall
120 min. (2007)

The back of the DVD case reads: "In Search of the Great Beast 666" documents the chilling life, impulses and journey of Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), one of the most controversial and mysterious characters of the 20th Century; infamously known as "The Wickedest Man in the World." Voiced by acting legend Joss Ackland (Watership Down, Lethal Weapon 2, White Mischief & The Hunt For Red October), this vivid portrayal unearths the barely believable and shocking facts surrounding this infamous Occultist, Spy, Poet, Dark Magician, Hedonist, Writer and accomplished Mountaineer. Was he related to US President George Bush? How was he connected to Scientology, Jack the Ripper, Winston Churchill, Hitler and Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond)? How did this man come to know so many remarkable people and why did he become the subject of fascination for generations of world-class musical icons?  Under various guises and camouflaged by pseudonyms, Crowley traveled the world in his quest for supreme knowledge and ultimate power through the Occult. He reveled in what some describe as acts of sexual decadence yet recognized by others as extreme depravity. His influence on modern culture is evident yet his reputation remains shrouded in a veil of infamy.Through dramatically reconstructed period scenes, this biographical film explores the boundaries of the self appointed "Beast 666," a man who is not only said to have inspired the free-love movement, but also through his literature is notorious for replacing the Ten Commandments with just one: "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."

5:15am For the history buffs: Today in 1865 Max Heindel was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was a Theosophist and later founding the Rosicrucian Fellowship of the U.S., which is a non-profit foundation in Oceanside, California. He was a prolific writer. He died on January 6, 1919. …...… Also, on July 23, 1874 Rose Edith Kelly was born in England. She was the older sister of Sir Gerald Festus Kelly, later President of the Royal academy of Art in England. She would later marry the notorious black magician Aleister Edward Crowley on August 12, 1903 and become known as ‘Ouarda’, the seer, which is an Arabic word for ‘Rose.’ On July 28, 1904 the couple had a daughter. She was named Nuit Ma Ahathoor Hecate Sappho Jezebel Lilith Crowley. She died young. In 1906 Rose gave birth to their second daughter Lola Zaza. The best quote regarding Rose is from a book titled The Demon Lovers (1969) by Joseph R. Rosenberger. It takes place on the night of her honeymoon with Aleister. It goes as follows: “Rose stripped off her clothes and stood before Crowley in all her nudity. Her breasts were perfect cones, high and firm. Her waist was trim and her hips nicely rounded. She was a true red head all the way.” …....… and speaking of odd things, on July 23, 1886 Steve Brodie, a Brooklyn bookmaker, wrote his name in history as being the first person ever to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge and live. The bridge, which had been built across the East River between lower Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York, had just been completed a few years earlier. He became an immediate hero and New York sightseers flocked to a tavern that he opened in the Bowery to drink and share stories with this now famous ‘bridge jumper.’ However, years later it was revealed that it was a weighted dummy that people saw falling from the bridge and not Brodie. It was all a publicity stunt. Brodie died in 1901. ……... And on July 23, 1920 Jane Wolfe arrived at the Abbey of Thelema in Cefalu from America. She was hoping that Aleister Crowley might cure her sickness. William Seabrook, a very close friend of Wolfe, stated that she was suffering from “... an unrequited passion for some homme fatale of the speakeasy epoch, from too much bathroom gin, despondency, and a couple of other depressants which - included veronal.”

Thursday July 22nd 2010 – 2:20pm A small 1.8 magnitude earthquake hit about 12 miles south of Berkeley around 1:29pm. I didn't feel it.

9:03am Ok, this has been a long week of catch-up for me. Between computer problems, crashings, my website server 'updating' its programs and leaving me in the dust and other stuff, I've been run ragged. At least I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's apparently going to be Saturday night sometime and by Sunday I should (hopefully) be getting back to normal. If I was ever normal in the first place.  :)  Anyway, sorry for not posting more of your emails et replies but I have been preoccupied. ... Thanks for all the late Birthday Wishes and etc.

8:55am  history buffs: On this date in 1892, as two boys trolled for bass near the south shore of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, they were startled to see the head of a huge serpent like creature rise out of the water about twenty-five yards away. It opened its huge mouth, revealing several rows of sharp, hooked teeth, and focused its fierce eyes on the terrified onlookers. It began swimming toward them, and the boys, literally paralyzed with fear, were unable to move. Fortunately for them, the creature executed an abrupt turn when it got within a few feet of them and swam back toward the middle of the lake. The boys later said  that it was at least 100 feet long and three feet around. …............ and it was on July 22, 1921 that Frank Bennett, Frater Progradior, signed the Oath of Zelator in the AA. …...…. And it was on July 22, 1941Vaughn Bode was born in Utica, New York. He was the infamous underground cartoonist who created a unique little wizard who always wore a huge pointed hat. His comic strip began by stating, “...once upon a time at 2:30 in the afternoon there lived a wise and benevolent wizard that went by the handle Cheech Wizard.” The inspiration for the wizard’s name was a can of Cheechy Nuts. In 1972, Cheech Wizard appears for the first time in the National Lampoon magazine. Bode once commented that he was as “an extremely introverted kid, completely unable to relate to the world around me...I started creating my own fantasy world populated with my own little creatures.” He died in San Francisco of ‘accidental strangulation’ on July 18, 1975. Some claim from a mystic ‘sexual’ experiment gone wrong. He was just 34. …...…… and to keep up with the flavor of today’s oddities I must note that on July 22, 1996 aan reported to the local authorities that he was at a summer cottage outside Ontario, Canada when he experienced two hours of ‘missing time’ and he told them that he had vague memories of lying on a table were several short gray figures were standing around him. He also pointed out an X-pattern of red marks on his hand as proof to his alien abduction. …...…. And finally, on July 22, 1996, late at night near Vicenza Italy, two local youngsters reported, while sleeping on the grassy slopes of Monte Berici, that they suddenly noticed the total lack of any animal noises. Everything became eerily quiet. Soon they heard a sort of modulated scraping metallic sound followed by the sounds of something moving in the forest. When they looked towards the sound they noticed two dark red gleaming eyes staring at them. The girl screamed, became frightened and covered herself with a blanket; the boy reported that he saw what appeared to be a large form, like a white-silvery blanket approaching from a nearby hill. Suddenly the bizarre robotic creature seemed to shrink up within itself and then disappeared into the woods. Other people in the area also reported hearing loud noises coming from the woods.

Wednesday July 21st 2010 – 6:00am For the history buffs: After eating an English missionary on this day in 1867, contrite villagers in Fiji are now eating humble pie and want to say sorry. Rev Thomas Baker, from Playden, East Sussex, was cooked and eaten by the people of the remote mountain village of Navatusila. They only thing left of Mr Baker, a clergyman with the Wesleyan Methodist Church, were his leather boots - and they even attempted to chew them. The people of Navatusila believe they were cursed because of the actions of their cannibal ancesters. They have no electricity, no passable road leading out of the jungle, and down the years they have suffered a series of misfortunes. In a bid to break that curse they have invited the cleric's descendants to attend a special ceremony of atonement, where they plan to offer an apology for the sins of their ancestors. But whether it will break their run of bad luck is another matter. They have apologized to no avail before, when they presented the Methodist Church of Fiji with Mr Baker's overlooked and partly chewed boots in 1993. The 35-year-old Mr Baker is the only European to have been cooked and eaten in Fiji. His death helped to create an image of missionaries as blundering proselytisers who ended up in a cooking pot as the natives' next meal. ….....…. And Ernest Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois on this date in 1899. Like many writers of the period he was fascinated by the evils of Aleister Crowley and incorporated him into one of his stories. An unpublished version of The Sun Also Rises it contained a short story based on an incident where Ford Madox Ford snubbed Hilaire Belloc only for Hemingway to later realize that Ford had mistaken the identity of the individual whom he had snubbed. It was actually Aleister Crowley whom Ford snubbed. Hemingway describes the incident where he was sitting in a café in Paris in the twenties when “a tall, gray, lantern-jawed man” walked by, adding that Crowley was “walking with a tall woman wearing a blue Italian infantry cape.” On July 2, 1961, like his father who had committed suicide some thirty years earlier, Ernest Hemingway died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 61. He had rose early, as he had done most of his entire adult life, he selected a shotgun from a closet in the basement and went upstairs to a spot near the entrance-way of the house and shot himself in the head. If he had waited a little more than two weeks he could have celebrated 62nd birthday. …......… and Martin P. Starr was born on this date in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1959. He is an author and lecturer who researches western esotericism with a particular interest in Freemasonry, Theosophy and Thelema and related movements. He is the author of The Unknown God : W.T. Smith and the Thelemites (2003). …...…. And finally, on July 21, 1980 Gerard Croiset, the Dutch psychic died at the age of 71. Croiset’s versatile psychic abilities enabled him to locate missing persons, find lost objects and also to solve crimes when called upon by police departments. The accuracy of his descriptions of various locations was amazing as was other information he was able to offer. He was able to tell people their life histories by just holding an object that belonged to them. This is a skill is known as Psychometry. He became well known for his gifts, even appearing being interviewed by the BBC.

Tuesday July 20th 2010 – 6:10am For the history buffs: On this date in 1955 Kenneth Grant sent Karl Germer his ‘Manifesto to the New Isis Lodge, O.T.O.’ along with a letter which explains that for the preservation of secrecy it was not possible for Germer, the O.H.O. of the Ordo Templi Orientis, to see copies of the ‘new’ O.T.O. Initiation Rituals which he has written. Germer referred to it a “crazy Manifesto” and was infuriated that Grant had proclaimed himself a divine “priest” of a planet that he had discovered and named “Isis.” Germer wrote, “It seems blasphemy to me.” Especially blasphemous was that Grant had signed this document “entirely unauthorized” as Xth Degree O.T.O. & O.H.O, both the degree and title of which he simply ‘assumed.’ Germer, thinking Grant had gone mad, immediately fired off a registered letter on this date, of July 20th 1955, which was Grant’s Notification of Expulsion. Grant was thrown out of the Order.

Monday July 19th 2010 – 2:58pm Andy Walker writes - "93. I wish I could’ve been there to help you out as I’m a bit of a computer whiz. The only downfall I see to you getting DSL is now you have the connection speed to sit around watching Lady Gaga videos on Youtube. A bit of an oddball question but do you happen to be working on any books/publications at this time? I’m wanting to get my hands involved in the editorial process and I would love to provide proofreading or whatever help on your publishing endeavors. Like I don’t keep myself business enough anyways but I’m always looking to extend myself. 93 93/93 Andy."

7:25am As noted in yesterday's blog entry, my computer is semi-dead in the water. I'm uploading things by the shoestrings right now ... but luckily Dave Solina has gotten me a brand new computer which only needs a few more 'connectors' to make in on-line assessable, or so I thought. I've been drooling to get it upgraded since it is supposed to be a great machine. Anyway, Luis Alvarado yesterday said 'enough is enough' and, rather than make my eight year old plastic monster (once again) work, he's making me get rid of my old dial-up dinosaur mode and he's upgrading me into DSL. ... He's making Dave's computer work. ... Wow!  I'm so computer stupid all I can do is smile alot.  Thank you Dave, Thank you Luis and thank you Ben for being here yesterday as moral support!  And let me again say - "Thank you Dave!"   :)-

7:20am For the history buffs: From June through September of 1692, nineteen men and women, all having been identified and convicted of witchcraft, were carted off to Gallows Hill which was  a barren slope near Salem Village, to be hanged. Another man of over eighty years was pressed to death under heavy stones for refusing to submit to a trial on witchcraft charges. Hundreds of others faced accusations of witchcraft; dozens languished in jail for months without trials until the hysteria that swept through Puritan Massachusetts subsided. On this particular date, of July 19, 1692, five of the key figures were executed; Rebecca Nurse, Susannah Martin, Elizabeth Howe, Sarah Good, and Sarah Wildes. ……..… and to continue on with the flavor of the day, Lizzie Borden was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on this date in 1860. She is mostly likely remembered as being the axe murderer who whacked her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and step-mother, Sarah Anthong Morse-Borden, to death in August of 1892. However, without sufficient evidence she was found not guilty. …...… and Jorg Lanz von Liebenfels, aka Adolf Josef Lanz, was born on this date in 1874. He was a former monk who on December 25, 1900 founded the Order of the New Templars.  He said that he set himself up as the order’s Grand Master and adopted the swastika as his emblem. He published a right-wing anti-Semitic magazine called Ostara. He later founded the German religious movement known as Theozoology (c.1904) which advocated sterilization of the sick and the “lower races” as well as castration for all forced laborers, while glorifying the “Aryan race” as “Gottmenschen” (god men). He justified his racial ideology with imaginary biblical evidence which claimed that the original blonde woman, Eve, whom he described as being divine, had become involved with a demon, got pregnant and then gave birth to the “lower races.” His theory stated that if the true Aryan masters could “once again rule the dark-skinned beastmen” they would ultimately achieve “divinity.” In 1907 Jorg Lanz von Liebenfels, with the aid of his wealthy friends, purchases the ruins of an ancient medieval castle, Burg Werfenstein, just outside the village of Struden near Grein in Upper Austria. Lanz soon converted the castle into the headquarters of the Order of the New Templars (ONT). …...…. And it was on July 19, 1918 that Aleister Crowley began his retreat on Esopus Island in the Hudson River area of New York with Charles Stansfeld Jones, aka Frater Achad. In his diary Crowley simply wrote, “July 19. Began Great Magical Retirement in canoe on Hudson.” The author William Seabrook later commented that Crowley hadn’t bought so much as a can of beans or a loaf of bread. He had nothing in his pockets except the ticket for the trip up the river.” As the boat was leaving Crowley waved good-bye with a slight grin. Seabrook yelled, “What are you going to eat, for crying out loud?” to which Crowley replied, in his heaviest pontifical manner, “My children, I am going to Esopus Island, and I will be fed as Elijah was fed by the ravens.” Seabrook just shook his head and yelled back, “Are you coming back in a chariot of fire, or in a Black Maria?” …....… and finally, on July 19, 1969   Grady Louis McMurtry, Phyllis Seckler and Mildred Burlingame officially re-activated the Ordo Templi Orientis in the state of California, using Grady’s “emergency powers” that were given to him by Aleister Crowley. The Order had remained dormant since the death of Karl Germer in October of 1962.

Sunday July 18th 2010 – 6:17am My computer has been crashing two, three times every day of late. The reason seems to be that I have no memory left which should not be the case but what is eating it up, I don't know ... even after I have defragged this plastic monster I still have only a tiny bit memory left internally to play with. Aughhhh! So today friends are coming over and I am having a major overhaul done and most likely, I'll be off line for awhile. And if this doesn't work ... I'm getting a hammer.

6:05am For the history buffs: On this date in 64AD Rome burned, Nero fiddled. …...…. Also, on this date in 1952, at 8:30pm, the National Airport Control Tower in Washington, D.C. confirmed with ‘blip’ on its radar that Unidentified Flying Objects were over the U. S. Capitol. All night long glowing lights were being reported in the night sky by residents as well as by airline pilots. The U. S. Air force was immediately notified of the possibly of a threat to the U.S. government. Fighter planes were then scrambled from a base in Delaware to fly to the U. S. Capital and intercept the UFOs but were unable to make contact. On the following night seven more UFOs returned and were detected near Andrews AFB. The radar blips were clocked at moving up to 7,000 mph. They would also suddenly stop and accelerate again. Again, a jet interceptor was dispatched but nothing was found. …...….. and I should like to report that on July 18, 2003 the newspapers reported that government officials discovered that a distraught mother in the town of Pavlodar, in northern Kazakhstan, had kept her daughter’s mummified body in her apartment for three years, with withered limbs and parched skin, lying on a plain bed in the flat. It seems the 27 year old mother, named Olga, belonged to a weird sect preaching a ‘cosmology’ that promised the resurrection of her child with the help of ‘Aliens’ and the use of a ‘third cosmic eye.’ Government officials were not amused and the daughter’s remains were given a proper burial.

Saturday July 17th 2010 – 6:20am For the history buffs: On this date in 1921Frank Bennett arrives at Aleister Crowley’s Abbey of Thelema at Cefalu causing a schism with C. F. Russell. Russell would soon leave Cefalu for America where he would start his own magical fraternity the G.B.G., the meaning of these initials are still being speculated upon to this date, although some claim it’s the ‘Great Brotherhood of God’. …..…. And it was on July 17, 1923 that the anti-Semitic leader of the List Society, Philipp Stauff, committed suicide in Germany. Many suspected foul play because of his continuing exposure of prominent Germans with Jewish roots in his newspaper. …..…. And it was on this date in 1959 Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Marten saw a tremendous creature with a snake-like head and a blunt nose swimming some 250 feet behind their motor boat on British Columbia’s Okanagan Lake. The group watched ‘Ogopogo’ for over almost three minutes before it submerged. …..…. And on July 17, 1981 Maurice Barbanell, editor & founder of the British magazine called the Psychic News, died at the age of 79. …….... and finally, on July 17, 2003 the newspapers in Scotland reported that a fossil from a 150-million-year-old water-dwelling dinosaur, possibly a plesiosaur, had been found on the banks of Scotland’s Loch Ness. However, scientists were quick to point out that the bones were definitely not those of Nessie, the lake’s legendary monster. While the fossil is about 150 million years old, Loch Ness was formed only 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age.

Friday July 16th 201 – There is NO 'Open House' tonight due to circumstances beyond my control. I am unable to entertain or lecture this evening. In fact, I may not even be home.  Sorry.

p.s. I'm also falling behind in answering emails ... aughhhhhh! Have patience.

7:55am NEWS: Around 12:31am this morning we had a 1.6 magnitude earthquake hit just west of us in the neighboring town of Concord ... and in regards to yesterday's posting about the 2.7 earthquake just south of us, Cranny yesterday sent me an email about his cat Minnie who seemingly predicted it. He writes - "Well, 'Minnie' WAS FOLLOWING ME all over the house last night. . .'Did not want to eat & did not want to go outside. . . But today SHE IS STILL DOING THE SAME. . . So I think we are do for a bigger one in the next 18 to 24 hours!"

My reply: I hope Minnie is wrong but our neighboring towns all around us are beginning to shake! But I should also point out that Cranny concluded his email with this prediction - "mark-it-down, will hit @ 1:02 am Fri" and we did get one around 12:30am so maybe that is the one Minnie predicted? ... His damn cat is almost as good as Paul the Octopus and the soccer matches!

7:36am My brother's son, or my nephew Joseph sent me an email. He writes - "hey I didnt know it was you're birthday. or that you were so close in age to my Dad, this means that you are the same age as my Dad right now as he will be 60 this month. and yes you will be screwed when you turn 60. Im with my brother by the way on wanting to get you and faustus up here I would love to meet you, I would love to hear any stories you would have to tell."

Reply: Ya, we're the same age right now. Our mother was anally retentive and with each new 'age' we got new privileges. This week, with Gary & I being the same age, meant we were allowed to do the same things and it always irritated my brother who liked to play the 'father' over me. He was such a control freak.
Anyway, I'm not sure my brother would want me talking to you guys. Remember, I am the black sheep of the family, always have been, always will be.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7:05am For the history buffs: Today is the date of the ancient Egyptian celebration for the birthday of the God ‘Set.’ …...…. And I should also mention that it was on July 16, 1821 that Mary Baker was born in Bow, New Hampshire, the youngest in a brood of six. In 1877 she married Asa Gilbert Eddy and became known as Mary Baker Eddy. She was the founder of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College and the Church of Christ, Scientist, or Christian Scientists in Boston, Massachusetts in 1889. It was the belief of the Christian Scientists to use healing by faith as an affirmation that human suffering is not what God creates, but is rather a mode of human perception. Critics are quick to point out that her methods were neither Christian, nor especially scientific and that her techniques to heal illness were so ineffective that when her husband became ailing, he died. Mary Baker Eddy passed away on December 3, 1910 at her home in Chestnut Hill, Boston, Massachusetts. ……..... On this date in 1945, at exactly 5:29:45, the first Atomic Bomb was tested in New Mexico. Witnesses said that the light of the explosion soon turned orange as the atomic fireball began shooting upwards at over 360 feet per second, reddening and pulsing as it cooled. The characteristic mushroom cloud of radioactive vapor materialized at around 30,000 feet. Beneath the cloud, all that remained of the soil at the center of the blast site were fragments of jade green radioactive glass created by the heat of the reaction. What was astonishing is that a blind girl saw the flash 120 miles away. …....…. It was on July 16, 1996, around noon, in Los Villares, Jaen, Spain, 66-year-old Dionisio, a retired farmer, was walking through a field and had sat down on a rock next to a tree. Suddenly he smelled a very strong and pungent odor in the air. He also began hearing a low hum. Looking around he noticed a UFO hovering near the ground, next to some nearby power lines. The metallic object was shaped like a dome and it had several black glass oval shaped windows. On one side of the object he could clearly make out what appeared to be an inscription resembling ‘IOIO’ and from the top of the object there were some cables that were apparently connected to the nearby power lines. Dionisio also noticed an unbelievably curious fact, when he started to walk away he turned and could no longer see the object. Inquisitively, as he approached the area, he was able to see it again as well as seeing three figures standing next to it. They were about six-feet tall, Asian in appearance with slanted eyes, two men and one woman, wearing tight fitting silvery outfits with boots. They also had large hands with five long well defined fingers and their mouths were slit-like. Then, all of a sudden, the witness felt something strike his chest and looking up he noticed that the woman was pointing at him. Soon he began hearing voices in his head but admittedly he could not figure them out and he became so frightened that he ran and hid behind some nearby rocks. That is when he claimed to hear the humming sound again, as well as smelling the pungent odor. When he peered over the rocks he noticed that the humanoids and the UFO were gone. He called the local authorities and investigators found ground traces of evidence at the site that something had landed. During the same period in time other witnesses in the region also reported seeing low flying lights and objects.

Thursday July 15th 2010 – 3:05pm My nephew Christian George writes – “Happy Birthday Uncle... 59 is not 60... your still ok." ... I replied – “Does that mean next year I’m fucked?”

2:00pm Andy West writes - “Jerry 93! Happy Birthday, Jer! Hope it was a fun one. Wish I could have written you yesterday but I wasn't near an internet connection. 93, 93/93 –Andy.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10:00am NEWS: a magnitude 2.7 earthquake hit last night at about 10:28pm about seven miles south of here. I didn't feel anything.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7:18am Although the offer was extended to go out to the bar last night to celebrate my birthday, I decided to stay home. I knew that I'd be having my son over this morning; he's staying here through Sunday and I simply needed to rest last night, sorry guys ... but Jay sent me an email stating - "We're throwing you a huge party for the 6-0 next year Jerry..."
Ok, start planning now!  I want it to be a good one!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6:05am I received an email yesterday morning, part of which asks - "I am just curious. Why do you have your students read Hillman's The Soul's Code. Aren't there better books written by Crowley or others?"

Reply: Good question. Probably there are better books, but sometimes a person who is not into 'magick' can say something far more direct than a magician. As for James Hillman, he is an American psychologist who studied at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich and who developed archetypal psychology. He outlined in his classic work, The Soul's Code: In Search of Character and Calling, what he describes as the 'acorn theory.' Hillman argues against the old notion, dominant in psychoanalysis, that environmental, parental, genetics and external factors are the sole determining factors for individual growth. He believes that each individual holds within themselves a unique potential for a specific possibility, much as a tiny acorn holds the blueprint for the oak tree. This tiny acorn is responsible for much of an individual’s character, their aspirations, and accomplishments throughout their lifetime. Although Hillman still acknowledges the importance of external factors in helping the acorn being nurtured he argues against attributing all our individuality, our character and achievements to just these factors. He proposes a reappraisal of our childhood in order for each individual to discover the “blueprint” which is unique to their our own personal life in order to help us find our particular calling or life’s work. The “acorn theory” clearly tries to explain that each human life is formed by a unique and essential image which calls it to a specific destiny, just as the mighty oak's destiny is written in the tiny acorn.

As a practicing magician who studies the work of Aleister Crowley, I clearly understand where Hillman is coming from, although in my belief the ‘acorn’ is referred to as my True Will. Crowley, like Hillman, strongly believed that each and every individual has a unique True Will or destiny which, when operating in perfect harmony and alignment with nature, will allow us to tap into a reservoir of creative genius; i.e. the daimon. I enjoy Hillman's book because he explains very clearly what Crowley is attempting to say in Liber Thisharb (Liber CMXIII - 913); which is also known as The Book of the Memory of the Path. Crowley has stated that this Liber - "Gives methods of attaining the magical memory or memory of past lives, and an insight into the function of the aspirant in this present life." and "... to enable the aspirant to calculate his True Orbit in eternity."  We need to review our entire life, from beginning to end, for the 'clues' or sign posts exposing our acorn or our reason for incarnating; this being our True Will. The clues to such have has been scattered amongst the pages of our present life and were planted long before we we're born.

Also remember, in Crowley’s Liber LXI vel Cavsae it states that there is a “certain exalted grade whereby a man becomes master of knowledge and intelligence, and no more their slave.” This refers to the grade of Adeptus Exemptus but what kind of knowledge and intelligence will make us free? For starters, this is the grade where a magician composes his Magickal Thesis but obviously the general theory as proposed by Crowley is an Old Aeonic concept based on the fact that humanity was basically ignorant of the Universe. The Earth was still flat and the Sun revolved around our Earth. In the Piscean Aeon mankind was just beginning to explore our planet, to reach towards the heavens and it was setting forth the knowledge of what each explorer was learning. This is the Key. The majority of all great thinkers wrote about Natural Laws, both magickal & philosophical in regards to a Universe with planets and moons, all circling around ‘one’ central Sun and its relationship to us. It deals primarily with what we term, “as Above” - the macrocosm. However, in this Aeon we’re told every man and every woman is a star (Liber AL I:3). Writing a thesis about the ‘known Universe’ shifts from the exterior or known Universe to the interior. As above now becomes "so Below" – the microcosm ... and the secret is in our ability to discover the acorn, or our True Will ... which, as Crowley notes, will set us free. And if a book, any book, like even James Hillman's The Soul Code can help us to unravel these Mysteries, we should read it.

6:00am For the history buffs: The F.B.I. director J. Edgar Hoover sent the military a ‘Memorandum for Mr. Ladd’ on this date in 1947 because he was furious that the military was not letting the F.B.I. examine the downed UFO, or ‘disc recovered’ and its occupants.

59
6:40am OK, OK ... on this date in 1951 I was born .... yes, it's my BIRTHDAY. I turn 59 today and I'm grumpy about it ... anyway, for those of you who read this blog but who know little about me, here is a brief over-view:

I was born in New Haven, Connecticut; the eleventh direct descendant of Captain Aaron Cornelius whose ship arrived in America in 1645 and who was one of four men who founded Flushing, Long Island. I am also a direct descendant of Mary Sanford who was hanged in Hartford, Connecticut on June 13th 1662 after being accused of witchcraft. .... I am an avid writer and Crowleyite

In the mid-seventies I began corresponding with Grady Louis McMurtry (1918-1985), Frater Hymenaeus Alpha 777 and I joined the O.T.O. on November 18, 1977. I considered Grady a good friend and personal mentor. In fact, Grady spent time at my house back in Connecticut on several occasions.

In 1977 I was chartered to run The Frater Achad Chapter of the O.T.O. in Connecticut which was elevated up Brocken Mountain Lodge in 1978. I ran Brocken Publications and the Lodge Newsletter, Hellspawned, A Newsletter of Brocken Spectres. In 1986 I was chartered to run a Rose Croix Chapter at Brocken. I remained in charge of these three bodies for well over ten years. In August of 1989 I moved to Berkeley, CA. Here, I became the sixth Lodge Master of the oldest continually operating Lodge in the world, Thelema Lodge, which was actually founded by Grady McMurtry in 1977. I held this position between 1991-1993. I was also placed in charge of the Neb-Het Chapter of the Rose Croix in the Bay Area. In April of 2004 I went inactive in the Ordo Templi Orientis and am no longer a member.

I have have written such notable articles as Did Aleister Crowley Know the Identity of Jack the Ripper?, Myths of the Solar Lodge Revisited, Aleister Crowley in Novels, Crowley’s I-Ching Sticks, Poetical Flavours of the Beast, The Warrior Troubadour and dozens more.

In 1993 myself and my ex-wife Marlene began releasing the publication entitled Red Flame, A Thelemic Research Journal. These being:
No. 1 - The Poetry of Grady Louis McMurtry (1993)
No. 2 - Mystery of Mystery, A Primer of Thelemic Ecclesiastical Gnosticism (1995)
No. 3 - The Friends & Acquaintances of Aleister Crowley (1996)
No. 4 - The Aleister Crowley Desk Reference (1997)
No. 5 - YI KING, a Beastly Book of Changes (1998)
No.6 - The Foolish Issue (1999)
No. 7 - The Magickal Essence of Aleister Crowley (1999)
No. 8 - Liber AL vel Legis, The Book of the Law (2000)
No. 9 - Aleister Crowley, In the Public's Eye (2001)
No. 10 & 11 - Jane Wolfe, Her Life with Aleister Crowley by Phyllis Seckler (2001)
No. 12 & 13 - In The Name of the Beast, A biography of Grady McMurtry

In the Fall of 2005 I released a book titled Aleister Crowley and the Ouija Board (Feral House) This book deals primarily with the history of the Ouija board from ancient China and Greece to the present day and it's corruption amongst the Spiritualists. It goes at length into Aleister Crowley's beliefs that this is the greatest and most dangerous magickal implement ever created. It explains Crowley's views on how to use the board correctly in a magickal setting.

On January 18th 2007 I released the first, of now twenty issues, of a new magazine which I titled CORNELIA, The Magazine of the Magickal, Mystical and often Personal Writings of J. Edward Cornelius and Associates.

In 2010 I released my book The Magickal Essence of Aleister Crowley. Hardback, Edition limited to 777 numbered copies. It focuses on the central philosophies and practices of Magick, in particular the "attainment of the knowledge and conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel," and the secrets that lie at the heart of Crowley's Liber Aleph and The Book of Lies. The text has its origins in a series of instructions that Aleister Crowley gave to an American disciple, Grady Louis McMurtry, during the last years of the Second World War.

I am the present head of Grady Louis McMurtry’s AA lineage and I run Love’s Sake Clerk House in Berkeley, California.

I keep busy ...

6:37am For the history buffs: Helen Schucman, a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University, was born on this date in 1909. In 1965 she responded to an authoritative ‘inner voice’ that was being channeled through her, who identified himself as Jesus Christ, and who urged her to take down his message. What she received would be called A Course in Miracles. It is a self-study course in spiritual psychology which focuses on the principles of universal love and forgiveness. It is seemingly Christianity improved wherein Jesus tells us that he wants less suffering, sacrifice, separation, and sacrament. He also wants more love and forgiveness. Why is it called A Course in Miracles? According to Schucman, the voice said to her: “This is a course in miracles, please take notes.” …...… and sadly, it was on July 14, 1969 that Gabriel Montenegro died of heart trouble. He had three funeral services. The first was Catholic, performed by his daughter Sister Marie Angelica, a nun at Notre Dame. The second was a Masonic service overseen by the F. & A. M. Lodge # 434 in Daly City, since Montenegro was a 33rd Degree Mason.  And the third was a Christian ceremony in Spanish to accommodate all his relatives who had come up from Mexico. He was buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, California. He originally joined the O.T.O. back on August 6th 1948, taking Minerval Initiation at Agape Lodge. He was born in Zapotlan Mexico in 1907 and claimed to have received “the highest initiations from Toltec priests.” Many people who knew Montenegro simply accepted this statement without question. However, modern historians are quick to point out that this was a ludicrous claim considering that the Toltec empire emerged around the 10th century in Mexico and within two centuries it all but ceased to exist. Where Montenegro found a Toltec priest seven centuries later is anyone’s guess. Be that as it may, he was legitimately the representative of the Fraternitas Rosicruciana Antiqua in Mexico and later he even became a 33°  Mason of the Antient & Accepted Rite for Mazatlan. He was a member of Crocker Lodge Nº 454 in Daly City, California. To say he was a colorful character is an understatement.
