In the original typed manuscript of Crowley's VIIth Degree OTO secrets titled Liber De Natura Deorum, Sub Figvra CCXXVIII (228) – Of the Nature of the Gods, it gives eight Chapters from Liber 333, The Book of Lies which one must study. One is a Ritual; seven are theory. Since I was a full Seventh Degree OTO Initiate under Grady Louis McMurtry I had the opportunity to ask him about these chapters and he made it very clear that “Failure to understand these Chapters means failure as a IXth.” ... The Chapters are KE, A, H, IA, IE, IF, IH, ΛB; their proper names being : The Star Ruby, The Sabbath of the Goat, Steeped Horsehair, The Glow Worm, The Gun Barrel, The Stag Beetle, Dewdrops and The Mountaineer. ... Sadly, within modern OTO a major idiocy was made in their original 'OTO Study Guide’ for the VIIth Degree by misreading the original typed manuscript. I too saw an amusing ‘glitch’ but I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to personally questioned Grady about it. Regarding these eight Chapters the last is a tiny weird handwritten inverted V followed by a ‘B’ ... the OTO today simply ignores the inverted V and tells its initiates to read Cap B from The Book of Lies which is The Cry of the Hawk.  However, the tiny handwritten inverted V was meant to be a Greek Lambda or Λ which was something the old typewriters could not type. So the real Cap to study according to Grady McMurtry is not ‘Beta’ but ‘Lambda Beta’ or The Mountaineer. An obvious review of this chapter will make the serious student realize that it is the compliment of Cap.8, or Steeped Horsehair; which is also required in VIIth degree reading. ... Of note: dislike him or not; Francis King got it right in his book The Secret Rituals of the O.T.O. (1973).

Be that as it may; on Sunday April 19th 2009 we began discussing these chapters weekly on our blog, starting with Cap IH or Dewdrops. It is by far one of the most intricate for an initiate to understand. The goal in discussing these was to get my students thinking and to learn how to interpret magickal, archetypal thought and to realize that sooner or later, if they ever make it into the higher Ruach, thinking as they know it will stop as another part of their brain begins to take over. If they're not trained early on in this practice when the time comes to interpret The Holy Books or other obscure Libers, they'll be stuck scratching their balls on Malkuth with a blank stare on their face. This exercise in attempting to understand Dewdrops from The Book of Lies hopefully has forced all my students to simply 'think' ... as silly as this might seem, it is important. To meditate deeply on a topic in the lower Ruach should, if done correctly, force the student to reach a mountain peak where he or she hits a brick wall. Hopefully they'll go on, and on ... but most don't; they simply stop at their comfy zone and what better way for a teacher to see his student's limitations if not in their writings? In truth, all interpretations that I've posted on my blog from my students are just fine and all hold gems of truth. There is no real right or wrong below the Abyss; hence it's all Lies ... but if, and when, the student is functioning out of the higher Ruach and when they reach their insurmountable peak, our training would have taught them to continue and preserve and at this point they'll begin to channel a higher thought, seemingly not their own. Every true poet, artist or creative thinker will always tell you that when they get in a 'zone' things just flow as if coming not from them but through them. Yes, I want my students to 'find' the solutions, not to be told them ... people functioning on the horizontal plane or within mundane Fraternities need teachings or to be spoon fed ... A.'.A.'. student, once they have moved into the Ruach and are functioning vertically, find the teachings from within.

In the VIIth Degree Grade Paper De Natura Deorum,
Section III De Natura Dei Soli it clearly informs us to “make no attempt
to disclose this inner Truth to the profane” ... adding - “For all attempts
to initiate even the worthy before they initiate themselves are folly and fatality.
The Secret of the Wise, although known of them, are not to be
expressed in the language of common men.”
