Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. – AL I:40

The following chapter from The Book of Lies, or Liber 333, was placed at the top of my blog on Sunday May 31st 2009 and all week long I asked anyone who wished to partake in the discussion to feel free to join in and send me their views, ideas and interpretations. The end result is this Epistle.

O! the heart of N.O.X. the Night of Pan.
ΠΑΝ : Duality: Energy: Death.
Death: Begetting: the supporters of O!
To beget is to die; to die is to beget.
Cast the Seed into the Field of Night.
Life and Death are two names of A.
Kill thyself.
Neither of these alone is enough.

Here is Aleister Crowley’s commentary to this verse:

“The shape of the figure I suggests the Phallus; this chapter is therefore called the Sabbath
of the Goat, the Witches' Sabbath, in which the Phallus is adored.
The chapter begins with a repetition of O! referred to in the previous chapter.  It is explained that this triad lives in Night, the Night of Pan, which is mystically called N.O.X., and this O is identified with the O in this word.  N is the Tarot symbol, Death; and the X or Cross is the sign of the Phallus.  For a fuller commentary on Nox, see Liber VII, Chapter I.
Nox adds to 210, which symbolises the reduction of duality to unity, and thence to negativity, and is thus a hieroglyph of the Great Work.
The word Pan is then explained, Π, the letter of Mars, is a hieroglyph of two pillars, and therefore suggest duality; A, by its shape, is the pentagram, energy, and N, by its Tarot attribution, is death.
Nox is then further explained, and it is shown that the ultimate Trinity, O!, is supported, or fed, by the process of death and begetting, which are the laws of the universe.
The identity of these two is then explained.
The Student is then charged to understand the spiritual importance of this physical
procession in line 5.
It is then asserted that the ultimate letter A has two names, or phases, Life and Death.
Line 7 balances line 5.  It will be notice that the phraseology of these two lines is so
conceived that the one contains the other more than itself.
Line 8 emphasises the importance of performing both.”

NOTE: Crowley wrote - "For a fuller commentary on Nox, see Liber VII, Chapter I" ... and so, here it is:

Liber Liberi vel Lapdis Lazuli
Adumbratio Kabbalae Aegyptiorum
Sub Figura VII
Being the Voluntary Emancipation of a certain Exempt Adept from his Adeptship.
These are the Birth-Words of a Master of the Temple

  1. My God, how I love Thee!
  2. With the vehement appetite of a beast I hunt Thee through the Universe.
  3. Thou art standing as it were upon a pinnacle at the edge of some fortified city.
I am a white bird, and perch upon Thee.
  4. Thou art My Lover: I see Thee as a nymph with her white limbs stretched by the spring.
  5. She lies upon the moss; there is none other but she:
  6. Art Thou not Pan?
  7. I am He. Speak not, O my God! Let the work be accomplished in silence.
  8. Let my cry of pain be crystallized into a little white fawn to run away into the forest!
  9. Thou art a centaur, O my God, from the violet-blossoms that crown Thee to the hoofs of the horse.
10. Thou art harder than tempered steel; there is no diamond beside Thee.
11. Did I not yield this body and soul?
12. I woo thee with a dagger drawn across my throat.
13. Let the spout of blood quench Thy blood-thirst, O my God!
14. Thou art a little white rabbit in the burrow Night.
15. I am greater than the fox and the hole.
16. Give me Thy kisses, O Lord God!
17. The lightning came and licked up the little flock of sheep.
18. There is a tongue and a flame; I see that trident walking over the sea.
19. A phoenix hath it for its head; below are two prongs. They spear the wicked.
20. I will spear Thee, O Thou little grey god, unless Thou beware!
21. From the grey to the gold; from the gold to that which is beyond the gold of Ophir.
22. My God! but I love Thee!
23. Why hast Thou whispered so ambiguous things? Wast Thou afraid, O goat-hoofed One, O horned One, O
pillar of lightning?
24. From the lightning fall pearls; from the pearls black specks of nothing.
25. I based all on one, one on naught.
26. Afloat in the aether, O my God, my God!
27. O Thou great hooded sun of glory, cut off these eyelids!
28. Nature shall die out; she hideth me, closing mine eyelids with fear, she hideth me from My destruction,
O Thou open eye.
29. O ever-weeping One!
30. Not Isis my mother, nor Osiris my self; but the incestuous Horus given over to Typhon, so may I be!
31. There thought; and thought is evil.
32. Pan! Pan! Io Pan! it is enough.
33. Fall not into death, O my soul! Think that death is the bed into which you are falling!
34. O how I love Thee, O my God! Especially is there a vehement parallel light from infinity, vilely diffracted
in the haze of this mind.
35. I love Thee.
I love Thee.
  I love Thee.
36. Thou art a beautiful thing whiter than a woman in the column of this vibration.
37. I shoot up vertically like an arrow, and become that Above.
38. But it is death, and the flame of the pyre.
39. Ascend in the flame of the pyre, O my soul! Thy God is like the cold emptiness of the utmost heaven,
into which thou radiatest thy little light.
40. When Thou shall know me, O empty God, my flame shall utterly expire in Thy great N. O. X.
41. What shalt Thou be, my God, when I have ceased to love Thee?
42. A worm, a nothing, a niddering knave!
43. But Oh! I love Thee.
44. I have thrown a million flowers from the basket of the Beyond at Thy feet, I have anointed Thee and Thy Staff
with oil and blood and kisses.
45. I have kindled Thy marble into life - ay! into death.
46. I have been smitten with the reek of Thy mouth, that drinketh never wine but life.
47. How the dew of the Universe whitens the lips!
48. Ah! trickling flow of the stars of the mother Supernal, begone!
49. I Am She that should come, the Virgin of all men.
50. I am a boy before Thee, O Thou satyr God.
51. Thou wilt inflict the punishment of pleasure - Now! Now! Now!
52. Io Pan! Io Pan! I love Thee. I love Thee.
53. O my God, spare me!
54. Now! It is done! Death.
55. I cried aloud the word - and it was a mighty spell to bind the Invisible, an enchantment to unbind the bound;
yea, to unbind the bound.

NOTE: All seven chapters in LIBER VII refer to specific planets; chapter I refers to MARS and now consider this statement made by Aleister Crowley about The Sabbath of the Goat - "Pan is then explained, Π; the letter of Mars, is a hieroglyph of two pillars, and therefore suggest duality."

Sunday May 31st 2009 - 6:50am Since posting the first chapter from The Book of Lies on April 19th it has been an amusing journey on this blog ... and here we are, posting the last of 'seven' theoretic chapters for a Seventh Degree Initiate of Ordo Templi Orientis to study. According to Grady McMurtry, the chapter known as The Sabbath of The Goat refers to the Thoth card of The Fool, or Aleph ... and so much could be written on this chapter that it could fill volumes. The length of Crowley's own commentary says alot. With that in mind, instead of me rambling on and on I am going to break from our standard format and begin the discussion of this chapter with two questions. No discourse of this chapter will be accepted until these questions are fully clarified.

1. Every chapter in The Book of Lies begins with ΚΕΦΑΛΗ ... what does it mean? And
what do the Greek letters following this word 'symbolically' refer to with each chapter?

2. The first line of The Sabbath of The Goat begins O! ... What does O! mean?

10:45am Dave from Florida writes the first thought about The Sabbath of the Goat. He sent me an email wherein he writes: "Jerry, 93! Now that the retrograde is over  :)  I can embarass myself with impunity.
1)  is very close to the greek word for Cefalù but not quite, (Κεφαλοίδιον), but this is probably just a coincidence.
The root of the word is head. Cefalu gets this name from it being a headland.
I would guess it is meant to mean thought.. such that each chapter is
Thought number 1 ..etc..
93 93/93

Reply: I guess you should have waited a few more days just to be safe from lingering Mercurial insanity. Sadly, you're way off but its good to see you are at least 'thinking' ... Anyway, your comment reminds me of saying something like "ΚΕΦΑΛΗ is to Κεφαλοίδιον as apples are to oranges."  In other words, where one are Greek words the others are fruit.  Similarities?  :)

12:45pm Miguel has some thoughts about The Sabbath Goat. He writes - "93, Leaping into it, maaaa. Your reply to my last post had me consider the reality that even the most agile of goats can still occasionally loose thier footing but they leap none-the-less.
ΚΕΦΑΛΗ is the Greek word for 'head' valuing 564 in Greek gematria. Interestingly enough the individual digits are the sephira of the "angelic" Ruach. Reduced (5+6+4) they value at 15 suggesting the Goat of Atu XV. Further reduced (1+5) we get 6 again the Sun, Tiphareth of whom The Devil is "the vice regent of the Sun upon Earth." Also, "head" is Atu XIX, the Sun, attributed to Resh meaning "a head" the path connecting the Sephiroth Hod and Yesod. It should also be noted that O as such appears 19 times throughout Liber VII ch I.
The numbers following "the head" are the numerical values associated with the qabalistic content of each chapter, thus suggesting a particular "head space" or way of thinking is being imparted via the particular chapters that have been discussed.
O! refers to the trinity which contains all contradiction within itself that preceeds Abyss. The manifested aspect of this unity, which preceeds all things, are the solar phallic trinity of KTEIS PHALLOS and SPERMA (cf. ch O! liber 333) which is PAN in the generic sense to which he was previously discussed in ch 11. PAN is also The Devil, the lord of the illusion, father of Lies, that is mind the disease of semen. O! paradoxically, as is the nature of lies, fact and fiction, is also the "field of night" as the core of N.O.X. The eye in the triangle where N is Binah and X Chokmah, or Chaos and Babalon.

Reply: Yes. This is a good beginning. 564 is also the numerical value of the title of 'Malkuth' in Hebrew.
As for the 'head space' comment about the numbers following ΚΕΦΑΛΗ; this is abit off; or dare I say shallow. I won't disclose what it really implies until I see what others come up with first.
Your next paragraph is also off. ... The letter O is beyond Kether; it's a reference to "The Ante Primal Triad which is NOT-GOD" ... this Triad begins with Nothing is or Ain. Then Nothing Becomes or Ain Soph and then Nothing is not which is Ain Soph Aur....  After this is "The First Triad which is GOD" which begins with I AM (Kether) continuing downward to Malkuth ... so, by saying O plus the ! "preceeds Abyss" is incorrect. Just the letter 'O' would be correct.

O = Nuit
I (!) = Ra-Hoor-Khuit and Hadit

Finally, as for your thoughts after - "which is PAN in the generic sense to which he was previously discussed in ch 11. PAN is also ...etc & etc" ... Like Dave, you should have been weary about 'speculating' too much while the pull of a Retrograde Mercury is still strong. You're way off, too much psych-babble; especially when you start mentioning interpretations about 'semen' etc; you have a tendency to confuse the planes. Too many 'mis-placed' examples in this last paragraph.
Anyway, this a good beginning ...

1:35pm Jerri from Sacramento writes - "Hi Jerry, 93 This is very brief...I will expound upon this further...but, ΚΕΦΑΛΗ means head...which could be attributed to the crown chakra, Sahasrara perhaps?? Indeed as well to the point within the circle-Pan, the Star in the endless night of Nuit... I've also found a Homeric dictionary which correlates the root of the word to the Latin, carum caput. It was often used as a greeting and means "dear head." This was used as a term of endearment or implied as "the source of voice." One could describe Pan as sitting at the Head of the Qabbalistic table as the divine source of our voice or Will. 93 93/93 Jerri."

Reply: I am impressed, you're making me think .... new ideas ... hummmmm. I guess this is what the blog is all about, no? Ya know, I too am learning things from my students!

1:40pm I received a good question from Mike. He writes - "Do your students ever get leary about sending in stuff to be posted out of fear that you are just going to shoot them down?" ... Reply: I hope not. If they do it's probably ego screaming as a defense mechanism and, if so, it kinda says alot. This blog is not, I repeat, not a forum like other Live Journals where troglodytes beat their chest and post stuff in order to show others how smart they are. This blog was meant to be a learning tool where we can reach many students at once; its our way to teach, correct and guide. Remember, no one has ever been born knowing everything or always being 'correct' ... we all, myself included, make mistakes, learn and grow. As an example; if one student has misunderstood something from The Book of Lies, then it is quite possible others have done the same, and by guiding one we indirectly are able to guide many. For this reason our blog is a great tool.
Finally, you'll never know just how much I have gotten out this Book of Lies discussion group ... and if I were afraid of taking a chance ...

It's the heart, afraid of breaking,
That never learns to dance.
It's the dream, afraid of waking,
That never takes a chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give.
And the soul, afraid of dyin',
That never learns to live.
- The Rose

4:45pm Regarding the word ΚΕΦΑΛΗ one student wrote - "I just always thought that meant Chapter... " ... good guess but the English word for 'chapter' is written in Greek as κεφάλαιο (kefalaio ).

4:55pm Regarding The Sabbath of the Goat; Frater Orpheus writes:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

ΚΕΦΑΛΗ Is one of these words whose entomology is a long and twisted road. Yes by looking at certain roots we can get “Head” or even horn out of but in this sense its most accurate translation may be “Peak”… this same root letters can also be found in the words Lightening and Thunderbolt.  It is also true that if we use Gematria we get attain 564 = Malkuth and even more telling may be that it also represents Adam “embodying” the Nephesh.  By English QBL 564 is the “secret centre” of Al 1:6 and this all seems well enough but I venture that it is only the tip of the “Iceberg”…

ΚΕΦΑΛΗ also means “Corrie”, also called Cirque (circle), is a steep hallow at the upper end of a mountain Valley.  Because of their inherent topographical qualities, lakes and Glaciers which also means rivers and streams, often form there.  These “Glacier Waters” nourish the flat lands below.  A Holy Mountain with a flowing stream is often a common theme in Myth and depicted upon different Tarot cards.  ΚΕΦΑΛΗ then can also be seen as the source of these Sacred Waters.

So maybe ΚΕΦΑΛΗ embodies both Hadit and Nuit?  Here represented as a Hexagram…

ΚΕΦ = 525 = Netzach - Venus
ΑΛΗ = 39 = Dew and the Eternal One

Or maybe it is better understood as just our Dew Drops as that pure Venetian Dew!  It would make sense then to have the word ΚΕΦΑΛΗ proceeding each Chapter as every number or word (Ra-Hoor-Kuit) would be an extension of Her manifested thru the Union, Hadit +Nuit = Ra-Hoor-Kuit.  Sense Hadit is never know it also makes sense that he is implied in the Word ΚΕΦΑΛΗ but not its ‘true’ meaning.

If the above is 'true' then "O" = Nu thru Nuit.

By that I mean, and this is really my own madness, that I see the Primordial traid of Ain - Ain Soph - Ain Soph Aur as...Nu - Nut - that by the point of Ain Soph AUR Nut has the Solar Phallic Seed/Yod within just not extended...

Love is the law, love under will
  Frater Orpheus

5:40pm I was going to tack this thought at the bottom of Frater Orpheus' 4:45pm posting as a reply but I decided to give it, it's own entry so it doesn't get lost.

All of you are coming up with some pretty interesting ideas; lots of stuff that I never thought of. But ok, here is what Grady told me; it's simpler than most of you have thought; which doesn't negate the gems that you've all sent in. Keep them coming. ... Anyway, it was during a talk at Brocken Mt. Lodge that I once had the opportunity to asked Grady what ΚΕΦΑΛΗ meant. He simply opened The Book of Lies, which just happened to be to Chapter 4 Peaches and he drew a line through the word; which is why my book has this pencil mark in it. He then chuckled as only Grady could and said, "That's it." Like here was a great revelation. He handed the book back to me and the line that he drew disected the word as follows:  ΚΕ / ΦΑΛΗ.  He then explained that this created a pun in English of KE/PhALC or "Kteis and Phallic" ... implying the Union of female and male - Nuit and Hadit. Grady then opened the book to Chapter 0 and pointed out Crowley's comments about "KTEIS, PHALLOS and SPERMA."  And with this in mind you now know what Grady told me the Greek letters following ΚΕΦΑΛΗ 'symbolically' refers to with each chapter.

Any of you care to elaborate on this thought?  Think about it.

Still, The Book of Lies is so intricate, never stop researching ... there is so much more yet to be 'discovered' ... and I should also like to point out that scribbled on the page of Peaches is something which has nothing to do with the chapter but rather, at the time of Grady's talk, it was simply a convienent piece of paper. I wrote it down when Grady said the clue to researching these chapters was to realize the "hunt is more important than the kill." Spoken as something only a true soldier could fully appreciate.

And hence has been the hunt over this last month plus with discussing these chapters. The kill or solutions have not, nor have they ever been, important.

Tuesday June 2nd 2009 – 10:15am Joe sent an interesting and thoughtful email, which I'll reproduce exactly as he formated it ... he writes:

93- Jerry- A quick reflection on the Sabbath of the Goat
The "O"  brings to mind the hole which is aVagina, or the Excrementary hole, the Mouth, the Nostrils ( both) the ears- All the senses require holes- the "0" also a "0" ( Zero) which bring to mind the fool- The Fool which contains all the other thoth tarot cards in IT
Also an EGG
and OVUM
of course, womb
THAT which has no beginning and no END
The Mother
The Devil
Looking at the Devil Card
We see cell division
Both Testicles could be seen as two "O" letters- or double zero's
One contains the female and one contains the Male ( and the depiction of ALPHA male behavior- see what the Devil is doing)
There is a suggestion, with the mention of Death the "N" and the Need To Die Daily
Clever Crowley !
When one is doing ones True Will it "is' not the "I" who is doing IT
Every time one erects something one creates a shadow !
The chapter suggests that there is need to always remember that Death creates Life and Life creates Death on all planes - this circle, once realized removes hopefully things like fear of "The  Devil"
Okay back to work the BOSS is looking over me shoulder

Wednesday June 3rd 2009 – 6:05pm Ricky sent me this email earlier today with some interesting thoughts on The Sabbath of The Goat; he  writes - "93 Jerry, Some thoughts on the Sabbath of the Goat. First I find it extremely interesting that the word Kephale is a grammatical play on the union of the Ketis and the Phallus and the Greek number that follow is the Seed of that union.
This brings up an interesting thought, one in which every number is a seed to its correspondences and breeds an entire world of its own based on its laws.
The 93 chapters of the book then seem to be seeds of thought each taking on a life and thus universe of their own.
But then if we look at numbers in general as just relative expressions and extended factors of 0 then it seems to shed light a bit on Kephale A.
O! The heart of N.O.X.
What does this mean in regards to 0? 'O' has numerous meanings but they all seem to point in one direction. It is the All of which PAN is but the reflection and it is NOT. We see this plainly in the equation 0=2. The 2 in this represents PAN, the manifested course of existence. Pan is further explained as Duality, Energy and Death. This on the initiates path might be translated into: 'I' and 'Not I', Striving toward 'Not I', and the Consummation or Death of 'I'.
Now what does it mean that 'O' is the heart of NOX? To get past the obvious interpretation to this we must look at the word NOX and what it means. Nox is a Latin word for night, here AC uses this word to signify the Night of Pan or the destruction of the 2 back into 0. Or the Death that consummates the marriage of 'I' and 'Not I'. In this way, Death begets the supporters of 'O' or the Magister Templi.
This is all I have for now, hopefully more to follow.

Friday June 5th 2009 – 5:37pm Wow, so many of my regular A.'.A.'. students have been quiet this week both on my blog and in private and while thoughts on Sabbath of the Goat started out strong last Sunday ... it has since fizzled ... ???

Saturday June 6th 2009 – 6:20am Well, I was starting to think that no one was going to send in any thoughts on The Sabbath Goat. I was worried that the last chapter to be discussed would be found in 'silence' ... but Frater Orpheus came through for us; he writes this gem:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

Considering the “The Sabbath of the Goat“…

In the very first line of this chapter Crowley informs us that the “0” and the “!” are in the heart of N.O.X.  That’s Nuit, Hadit & Ra-Hoor-Khuit all in one place.  Maybe we should look at it like this N. (O!). X… But how?…
We are told that N.O.X. is the Night of PAN, which we know is above the Abyss and that PAN is that duality beneath the Abyss.
N. = Death       P = Duality
O. = N.H.R.&   A = Energy
X. =  Phallus       N = Death

One begins with DEATH and the other ends in it; Sound like a cycle?  The O and A are interrelated as extensions of the divine Spirit and this Death is but a Gateway in and out of the duality which extends from Daath or Knowledge downward, like so…

You could also see this as P.A.N. and the (N)ight (A/O)f  (P)an, the same letters and formula, but in reverse…but maybe that’s the Grass of the Arabs speaking.

Consider this… the reason the heart of N.O.X., which we associate with Aleph, can in truth represent the trinity “O!”; is precisely because it is above the Abyss.  In other words if Aleph did not include its contrary notions then it would be divided and would therefore below the Abyss by definition… but here in the Night of Pan… ALL is NOT… Aleph is total antithesis synthesized in a Mysterious triform Energy.  Confused?

Remember we merely conceptualize the Supernal Trinity so that we may make “heads or tails” out of that which is ineffable.  But it just isn’t so!  All knowledge including Cabala is of this plane and therefore bathed in duality and limited in its ability to explain the ineffable.  The best we can do is pontificate images utilizing an iconic language of symbolism while understanding that which is written upon the Emerald tablet… As above so below.  Armed with this one ‘truth’ the Magician is able to perceive certain truths veiled in the mask of Creation that would otherwise remain ineffable; but, our language is limited and can therefore only represent partial Truths, our Libidos are not!  In this sense it is both easy and difficult to conceptualize the fact that above the Abyss contradiction is Unity; while below it is division.

This being understood I have, as a matter of meditation, assigned the letters of N.O.X. to the paths within the Supernal Triad.  So I imagine the Spirit Energy of Aleph is “O“, the path of Venus or The Empress as “N”, and the Procreative powers of the Magician as X.  You could also conceptualize them as the Spheres themselves; N/Binah, O!/Kether & X/Chockmah… Yet in another manner we may simply Understand N as Death or that stage between PAN and NOX.  All of this is True and False and only now serves me in reflecting upon the ineffable.  As J.C. pointed out, “it‘s not the kill that matters but the hunt” (G.M.) Yet by this process we may discern certain personal ‘Truths“.

Now lets look more closely at PAN…

Crowley writes that Peh is Duality.  As the Tower Path it unites O to N and also the Pillars of 418 and 156 and in this sense we can easily see how this path unites opposites.  The value for Peh is 80 as in the ”… eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen.“ of Al I:46.  As we have already discussed, Peh or Mars represents the “sexual energies” within the Ruach. (But where did they come from?)

80 is not only the value of Peh which joins O to N but, it is also the value of Y & O and L & N.  In other words all the planets of the Ruach are united thru the Sun in this number 80.  Coincidence?  In the most straight forward sense PAN is a tri-fold formula which represents the conditions of everything beneath the Abyss; which of course is bathed in duality here represented by this letter “P“.  Nun represents the eternal cycle of birth and death of which we are all part of.  And, Aleph which mediates between these two is the Spirit and by its shape denotes the Pentagram.  N.O.X. is simply outside ALL of this in what is called the “Night Of Pan“.

As already pointed out by JC this chapter, “The Sabbath of the Goat”, is attributed to the Path of the FOOL and Aleph.  He represents that True Spirit of which we are but the vehicle.  In his commentary to this chapter Crowley calls this “A” the ultimate Letter of two names or phases, Life and Death and refers to this path as “energy”, which is the Will here, undetermined and un-manifested.  It is said that this FOOL represents the Creative Energy of the Spirit.  That “Life Breath” which permeates ALL(PAN).  It is the four fold elemental energy, or the Prana, in everything.  This “energy” from within, animates the Ruach.  Which Case calls “the primary aspect of Universal consciousness” (Tarot, pg.35).  Aleph is Mercury, the first Mother Letter, and especially associated with AIR in its most exalted sense.  In Sefer Yetsirah it states that “God produces Air from the Spirit and turns it into 22 sounds“ …Water and Fire were also formed from this AIR by Him.  This “A” is also “V” in a certain manner which is said to be directly associated with the Father of all Letters, YOD; because it is found at its center (Y-V-D).  Simply put “Air is considered as the father of all manifested existence.” (Sefer Yetsirah)  Crowley calls this Air, Spirit and Akasha. (B.O.T. pg. 65)

If you spend any amount of time studying the Myths and symbolism of the FOOL card you will learn that this Path contains qualities of the Father, Mother and Son in combination.  It represents Air and Spring but also Silence and the “O”!  The Supernal Triad is such that all ideas flow one into the other; All is Not here.  Consider that Hadit/Prana and Nuit/Akasha come thru the Sun bound together as One to manifest your STAR, bringing Light to your Universe…
(its triads on all planes)

Crowley’s original concept for this Trump was to be a bearded ancient in profile, laughing.  His bag full of illusions and his staff 463 lines long which represents the Middle Pillar and the mediator Mercury.

So once again we are charged with the task of understanding this Spirit which when above the abyss is beyond contradiction; yet the Spirit is bathed in the Duality of Soul and Ego once manifested thru the Sun.  In a nut shell “Aleph” represents that pure dissent of Spirit, the “Pure Will unassuaged of purpose”, which we aim to manifest below thru our own STAR; Crowley wrote, “This Fool is an aspect of Pan Shewn in his fullest development by ATU XV” (BOT pg.60)  J.C. once asked me and I’m paraphrasing, “What is the source of this energy we are trying to tap into?”  I was tongue tied and said nothing… and he then added, “It’s called Liber Aleph for a reason you know”… I must admit this blew my mind… Now go read Liber Aleph chapter 207 “On Wisdom and Folly”.

Now consider this, “ These are fools that men adore; both their Gods & their men are fools.” AL I:11, to this Crowley comments…”A verse with so sacred a number as 11 is likely to mean very deep things.  Probably much concerning the function of The Fool is concealed in it.”…”I prefer to suggest that these “fools” are “Silent selves”, impotent babes unborn”  Here Crowley suggests that our “Silent selves” are to be found in Aleph, related to the sacred number 11 and may reveal  mysteries concerning the function of the Fool.  In AL I:48 we read this “ My prophet is a fool with is one, one, one; are not they the Ox and none by the Book?”  Aleph is 111, the Ox and also the None; since He is also the unity.  The Book is the Word and the Prophet may be seen as the Magus in Chockmah who is indeed an extension of Aleph.  Chockmah is connected to three paths: A= The Fool, V = The Hierophant and D = The Empress.  This Triad may be seen as the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.  But it starts with Aleph so these three paths may be said to represent certain functions of Aleph or the True Spirit.  This Spirit is pulled from Sahasrara or Kether above thru the Path of The FOOL and down into Chockmah/Ajna where the Seed may now move over into the Womb of Binah atop the 418 Pillar via the Path of The Empress.  Or it may appear in the heavens of Jupiter below via The Path of the Hierophant.  Now consider AL 2:16 which states, “I am the Empress & the Hierophant.  Thus eleven as my bride is eleven.” These Letters V.A.D. = 11.

As for this chapter title, “The Sabbath of the Goat“…

This may be seen as the Witches' Sabbath where worship of the Generative Powers is celebrated, here represented by the Goat.  I see this Goat as the He Goat OZ of Strength whose numeration is 77; the same as the sacred river Ghihon which flows from the Waters found in the Garden of Eden.  We may even see its source as a ΚΕΦΑΛΗ atop Mount Meru which leads from Kether down into Jupiter below…and in this way Liber OZ may represent the “True Word” descended below as The Rights of Man.  This River Ghihon is found in Genesis II. 13, and whose source is identified as MZL(A/78) or the influence from Kether. This River is one of the four Rivers of Paradise found in the Garden of Eden where Man, like a Child, possessed all the innocence of the FOOL; this then is my only advice to you, the reader… be like a Child in the face of God.

The very first thing that Grady covered in the “Magickal Link” in his now historic series, “From the Caliph“ (Volume I No.10 & 11), are these four Rivers of Eden which he called “The Map of Atlantis” and ‘The ships code book“.
