Aleister Crowley's
MISSING CHAPTER
to Magick Without Tears
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
One of the greatest mysteries of Crowleyanity has been the missing Chapter to Magick Without Tears. People who are familiar with this book have long believed there are only 83 Chapters but this is not true, originally there were 84. What became of the missing chapter is a very complicated tale but rest assured, we'll give you the facts as they stand. Some believe the original error began with the first publication of the book by Karl Germer and Thelema Publishing Company in New Jersey circa 1954. This error then continued with the edition released through Llewellyn in 1973 by Israel Regardie. The original error on Germer's part actually began with his copy of the typed manuscript, it did not contain Chapter XXXVII. We know that Germer wrote to Gerald Yorke in an attempt to obtain a copy of this chapter (letter dated March 4th 1952) but was informed by Yorke that his copy was also missing this section (return letter dated March 20th 1952). Further research by Karl Germer proved that no copy, anywhere, contained the missing Chapter. Therefore, thinking that such did not exist, Karl Germer simply went ahead with his publishing plan and instead of 84 Chapters, he re-numbered the entire manuscript to reflect only 83 chapters. This error continues to this day.
Modern historians who have long known about this flaw in Magick Without Tears are quick to point out that Crowley's own diaries of 1944 make mention of this original chapter. In August of 1944 Crowley wrote, quote, "Tues.8 Shih Ho-21. Alert 9.2.43 RP.9.9.51. No mail at all! Staggered on with XXXVII Dreams at Montauk a page or so. This feverish cold is the deuce! Finished XXXVII in a rage! It woke up my Leo Asc!!" It is from this particular quote that we have learned of the original title of the chapter, 'Dreams at Montauk.'
Although Crowley's own manuscript was presumed lost, we do know that he sent this and other original copies of select chapters of 'Aleister Explains Everything' (the original title to Magick Without Tears) to his friend Michael Phillip Rae whom he knew around 1945. It is at this point that we learn where the confusion comes in. Some of these letters survive in Yorke's Collection at the Warburg and at the OTO Grand Archive.
To give you a brief historical perspective, Crowley wrote numerous letters between himself and Michael Phillip Rae in 1945-46. 1 When Michael Phillip Rae was divorced by his wife, she and her two children, Katherine 14 and the older William Louis Rae who was 19 at the time, stayed briefly in London where it is believed Mrs. Rae had an affair with the witch Gerald Gardner. When Michael Phillip Rae died of a heart attack in January of 1946 much of his personal effects and property were briefly put into storage and later sent to his ex-wife who had recently moved to Montauk, Long Island, the seat of the family home. It is further believed Crowley knew of this move because he was having an affair with the late Mr. Rae's landlady, Miss Fulton at the time. 2 It was she who helped pack and forward out Rae's belongings to Montauk according to surviving letters. This is how Crowley obtained the address of Rae's family. As to why young William answered the original letter from Crowley and not his mother, to whom the letter is addressed, is anyone's guess. But it is presumed that Mrs. Rae, believing that her late husband had a homosexual affair with Crowley, simply wanted nothing to do with the Great Beast. As to why William even bothered to answer Crowley's letter is simply seen as 'curiosity.' It is best at this point to quote some of the letters. But first, we wish to thank The University of Long Island at Montauk and the Rae family for the kind permission to quote certain letters between Aleister Crowley and the late William Louis Rae.
11 November 1946
Dear Mr. W. L. Rae,
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Thanks for yours of 12 November in response to my inquiry. Yes, I knew your
father well and considered him a dear friend. Were we lovers? No, no, dear boy although if I
remember correctly your father did like men. I was sorry to hear when he died. I was the
only one to attend his funeral besides his landlady, Miss Fulton. Yes, I would love a copy of
Dreams at Montauk, which is why I originally wrote. It would be gratefully appreciated. I'm
incorporating this into a new chapter for my book, 'Aleister explains a lot More' but under a
new name.
Speaking of Montauk, I once spent time there in 1917 3 and had very strange dreams,
got blisters and was eaten by mosquitos. Where is your family home in relationship to Turtle
Cove where I stayed? Also, have you ever had any strange things happen to you out at
Montauk? Any information which you can send will help me when rewriting my chapter.
Love is the law, love under will.
Aleister Crowley
December 9, 1946
Dear Mr.Crowley
Thank you for your letter and comments about my father. You support my mother's
views about his sexual proclivities. I've enclosed the manuscript you requested. I hope it is
what you are looking for. On a side note, have you ever heard of a young man called
Clamado? He recently wrote to my mother asking for your address, which we gave him. I
do not understand as to why he wrote to my mother in the first place. Somehow I get the
impression that the connection is with my father. My mother will not talk with me about
Clamado and she gets very, very furious if I even mention his name. Do you know of this
connection or the story behind Clamado and my father? I know it has something to do with
Brussels around 1929 but I know of little else. Also my mother wants to know if you are still
speaking to a Mr. Gardner?
Your questions about Montauk. Yes, things have happened to me out on Montauk
beach but I don't wish to get into all the details. My uncle who was an officer on the USS
Eldridge was recently transferred from Philadelphia and now works out at Sage Military Air
Base, he told me a few really interesting stories. 4 Although between us guys and please
don't ever let my mother know, I met my first lady of the evening there and lost my
virginity. She had a big head with no hair and was wearing a silver suit. Her first name was
Boug, 5 I never learned her last name. You also mentioned blisters, where were yours
located? The shot I received has not cured mine yet and I still walk funny. What did you
do? In regards to the location our family home, my mother suggests highly that you only
need know the post office box.

Sincerely yours, William Louis Rae
We know that Aleister Crowley received the manuscript from William Rae in late December of 1946 and that he quickly began rewriting this chapter to reflect his recent discoveries. He did not, as some historians would like us to believe, respond immediately to William Rae's letter of December 9th but instead he picked up the correspondence again in the summer of 1947. These letters survive in the collection at the University of Long Island at Montauk.
Crowley would finish the rewrite of this chapter on October 11th 1947. This is where the confusion occurs and it is now believed that Crowley himself actually excluded this Chapter from Aleister Explains Everything and envisioned it instead as an actual short Liber, or book. His own diaries plainly show that he renamed this manuscript "Liber 273 ... Montauk Doors and The Sacred Fishing Trips of The Unified Field Theory." 6 He would complete this manuscript a few days later. His diary states, "Mon.Oct.24 Completed Liber 273." So we have come to learn that in some ways this chapter was never meant to be included in Magick Without Tears. The mystery is solved.
One individual whom I interviewed by phone about Montauk was Arild Stromsvag of Norway. I was looking for information. Although the OTO had a copy of Crowley's "Dreams at Montauk" it was Mr. Stromsvag who was responsible for locating the original typed manuscript of Liber 273. I wanted to ask him for further data about where the manuscript had turned up but instead all I received in the mail was a bizzare newspaper article about Arild himself which had nothing to do with Liber 273! It was very odd. 7 Anyway, in time he did send me a photocopy of Liber 273 and although the OTO now has copies of both Crowley's manuscripts in its local archives we have decided to present only Chapter XXXVII entitled 'Dreams at Montauk' as it was originally written by Aleister Crowley in this pamphlet. This is partially due to the length of Liber 273 (approximately 17 pages) which is way too long for this short pamphlet. In the original format, Chapter XXXVII reads as a letter, similar to other chapters in Magick Without Tears. We hope you enjoy it.
Chapter 37
DREAMS AT MONTAUK
Cara Soror
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
So you wish to know what I was doing out at Montauk? This is very difficult to explain as I'm not quite sure I fully understand myself. I spent some time there in the Summer of 1919 because I found New York so unbearable. I could no longer take the heat so a friend of mine, Willie Seabrook, offered me an alternative. At the time I was staying at 63 South Washington Square with a friend who taught somewhere in Harlem in the public schools. 8 After arriving at Montauk I spent a brief time camping in a sleeping bag on the beach. It was pleasant but the mosquitos were murder.
On an odd note, I got an incredible case of blisters which stayed with me for years. 9 I was also tormented by a strange vision, my 'Dream at Montauk.' It was very simple. I saw a huge bright circular disk slowly float down out of the sky and gently rest onto the water. It was like no airplane I had ever seen before. I felt light headed, then blacked out but just before blacking out I saw a vision of LAM slowly walking toward me. 10 It was rather beautiful. When I finally came to, the object was gone and I found it to be night. 11 I have weird memories of trying to touch the disk which is where I think that I got the blisters from. 12 I have often asked myself, "Had I seen an angel that day?" Like all visions I've tried to test it very carefully by analyzing all the symbols properly which I can remember and be as objective as possible. For this I have warned you, always do that, accept nothing at face value. What makes a dream different from a vision? The depth of ones perception and the inner meaning with which one interprets them, that is the solution. Some have suggested that my dream at Montauk was just that, something I remembered just before slipping off into sleep. I believe this is not true, it was a real vision.
At Montauk I wrote a short paper which unfortunately I no longer have a copy of. The basic jest of this paper was angelic communications and the methods which they have chosen to use when talking with humanity. These differ from dream communications which are little less than inner personal ramblings. Anyway, during my stay on the beach I came to understand that angels actually use ciphers to communicate with humanity.13 I have often wondered if the angels have not been communicating through qabalistic or numerical ciphers to other chosen Illuminati, like myself, and wondering if we have not been reading too much into these methods of communication. Is this not what John Dee was all about? Using codes and ciphers? In this way, only certain occult Adepts would be able to talk to the angels and direct the destiny of the world. This might have been the original intention of the Illuminati, although I believe it has been lost over the years.
You asked if there are any examples of cipher manuscripts presently in our world? My god child, why yes! What do you think The Book of the Law is? Many individuals have tried to unravel the secrets, codes and mysteries contained therein but only a few have grasped tidbits. Study well this manuscript, you'll be richly rewarded but be careful, Frater Achad discovered certain mysteries and he went mad. He discovered the 'key of it all.' Especially in Chapter Three where it reveals the real connection to Montauk. Choose ye an island! Long Island! There is a 'Secret Door' in Long Island, Liber AL III:38. Achad saw it while he was with me in New York in 1918!
If you 'Paste the sheets from right to left and from top to bottom' as Liber AL III:73 tells you to do, you'll discover that it will spell out 'Montauk' around the edges as well as giving the exact location of the Secret Door. Achad showed me this great mystery. Perhaps you might discover other things?
I think it was also during my stay at Montauk that I first began to realize that angels can actually manifest in flesh upon the plane of Malkuth. I have vague memories of actually touching LAM, not in a dream state but as one individual to another while we were walking along the beach. I even think we kissed. I wondered at the time if he was not a member of the true Illuminati but then again I thought, what are his intentions? Especially after the kiss. Is he a friendly or a good angel, or is he manifesting solely to get a foot onto this plane to conquer us? That is why I stress to you, test your dreams and visions for accuracy and Truth. I came to the conclusion that LAM is rather a nice fellow. Have you seen the drawing that I did of him? 14
Anyway, I must warn you that not all angels are friendly. In fact, there are members within the OTO today as well as other Fraternities whom I fear are actually manifested evil angels, or evil Illuminati who have come down to earth with evil plans. The battle of Light & Darkness still rages. I could even envision the future of the OTO being run by some of these angels. 15 This worries me. In my dream at Montauk I was told by LAM that these evil, evil, evil angels always leave clues to their identity in their written words. These cryptic messages always contain Truth as if these angels must reveal the facts somewhere of their mission on Earth. There are no exceptions. All angels, good and bad, use these coded messages to communicate. The main difference between the two is that good angels want you to know their mission while evil angels try to conceal it. I highly recommend to you to study and learn Qabalah or other such methods of communication so that you might be able to decipher these cryptic messages for yourself. I strongly have this sense that in the future I will see LAM again. In some ways, I hope so, I've never forgotten the way he kissed.
As far as your question about your own experiences at Montauk. I can only state, I'm not sure. Maybe you did see the ghosts of some ancient indian but then again your description of him tells me that he was probably something else. You describe him as wearing a silver suit and talking about the future but you don't remember exactly what he talked about. That's why I stress to write everything down immediately after every vision, otherwise it's often difficult to remember all the facts. Keep a diary, that's important. But I ask you, what American indian have you ever read about who wore silver suits? Or the silver disk you describe? Yes it does sound similar to my vision so maybe this area is obviously a vision spot. Our similar dreams at Montauk prove this to be the case. I am curious about your comment about a door which leads to the future and to the past which you feel is located somewhere at Montauk. This 'memory' that you remember reflects the 'Secret Door' I previously mentioned. The bottom line which I'm trying to tell you is to be very careful and learn to discriminate between reality and fantasy. Test your visions carefully.
Montauk may be little more than a good yarn for both of us.
Love is the law, love under will.
Yours Fraternally 666
This ends Chapter XXXVII.
After serious study of Crowley's writings we have come to believe that in the near future he would totally change his views about LAM. In fact, in Aleister Crowley's 1947 Diaries, it becomes very obvious that Crowley is again in communication with LAM. It is also apparent that Crowley's views about LAM have shifted in 1947 from him being an angel to that of a UFOnaut. This is most likely why Crowley decided not to include the above Chapter in Magick Without Tears. It did not reflect his new discoveries about UFOs and fostered a misconception about his time spent at Montauk. In realizing the truth about his dreams at Montauk, Crowley decided to rewrite the chapter and title it Liber 273 Montauk Doors and the Sacred Fishing Trips of The Unified Field Theory. This manuscript also reflects Crowley's understanding of time warp 'Secret Doors' which is yet another story to be elaborated upon when Liber 273 is published later this year by Pangenetor Lodge.
The above view is supported by a brief postcard dated June 12, 1947 from Aleister Crowley to a member of the OTO named Grady Louis McMurtry who was living in San Francisco. We thank the OTO Archives and Frater Hymenaeus Beta for the kind permission to quote it. Crowley writes:

Dear Grady,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Hope you and Shannon are doing fine. Thanks for info about Jane Wolfe's copy.

Look no further I found XXXVII! Rewriting it now but decided against putting it in

Aleister Explains Everything. Give my love to all.

Love is the law, love under will.
Fraternally 666
Although no information survives to this effect, it is obvious that Aleister Crowley must have written to Grady Louis McMurtry previously asking him to find out if Jane Wolfe's copy of Aleister Explains Everything had the missing chapter XXXVII. Unfortunately we do not have Grady's reply, only the above return postcard on file. Still this postcard plainly shows Crowley's views about not including this chapter in Magick Without Tears. So in some ways, Germer's 1954 edition of this book was correct after all.
To sum up this article it might be best said that Crowley's 1947 diary contain the strongest evidence of his UFO connections and is highly recommended for study. Upon studying Aleister Crowley's original typed copy of his 1947 Diaries the noted author Luis Alvarado has stated, while slowly and for some reason nervously petting his cat Freya that "their (i.e. Pangenetor Lodge) edition is faithful to their original typed copy, I'd swear by it!" He further explained that these diaries are a must to read by serious Crowleyites. What I found extremely odd during the interview is that Luis never took his eyes off his cat, even while answering my questions.16 Alvarado was a strange man but because he is such a noted authority I felt it a must to include his recommendations about the 1947 Diaries, with which I agree. As an added bonus we have included as a supplement a short essay titled Cryptic Message Found in an old Thelema Lodge Newsletter by Paul Louis Motts which we hope the reader might find amusing. It supports Crowley's belief and views as portrayed in Chapter XXXVII 'Dreams at Montauk' about the use of coded or cryptic messages by 'angels' or UFOnauts amongst the Illuminati.

ADDENDUM:
CRYPTIC MESSAGE FOUND IN AN OLD
THELEMA LODGE NEWSLETTER
Reveals past Lodge Master was a Space Alien!
by Frater Paul L. Motts
I have finally deciphered the coded message which appeared in an old issue of the Thelema Lodge Calendar published in Berkeley California. 17 It appeared in the Editorial entitled 'Positive Changes in the Bay Area' which was written by a past Lodge Master. It was there for all to see but few had the proper Knowledge to interpret it. Fewer still realized it was written by a UFOnaut! The author Allen Greenfield, a UFO expert from Georgia, has stated plainly in his book Secret Cipher of the UFOnauts that, "UFOnauts are scattered, informally organized on a worldwide basis. Until the modern Information Revolution they communicated through ... Ciphers." 18 For the first time I wish to reveal the Hidden Code of the UFOnauts and expose a space alien living in our midst. This code was taught to me by an upper degree of the Ordo Templi Orientis. 19 It is a simple numerical code and one which substitutes numbers for letters, it is as follows:
A1, B2, C8, D4, E5, F6, G3, H5, I10, J10, K20, L30, M40,
N50, O70 P80, Q100, R200, S60, T9, UVWX6, Y10, Z7.
We have discovered that if you take the very first letter of the second word in each sentence going down in the Editorial, you obtain 'ci tstc twhsttaw wnauwatl.' To the uninitiated it appears to be nothing more than random letters, possibly mimicking an alien language itself. But our Qabalistic sources have revealed to us that if you substitute each letter with one of the hidden numerical values you get the total of 313. If you have doubts and you don't believe me then do the math yourself. You'll find out that I'm not making this up. It does add to 313.
Although the original Code is an apparent mass of jumbled letters, it is also the exact same numerical value of the phrase 'Guided by the Space Alien.' (Guided/32 + by/12 + the/19 + Space/154 + Alien/96 = 313) Learning this truth, we asked, "Why was the past Lodge Master leaving this Hidden Message?" and "What were his intentions of guiding Positive Changes in the Bay Area?" Our high ranking source within the OTO has given us a further clue to the Space Aliens ambitions. He told us to begin at the bottom of the Editorial, take the first letter of the second to last word in each sentence going upward. You will get 'bd wmh tiow tats ia tpos mbi' which again is a jumbled phrase but one which has a numerical value of 513. Using the exact same Hidden Code that we've already revealed to you, you'll discover that 513 is the same value of the phrases 'To kill, bloodshed and defeated' and also 'ultimate darkness.' Frankly, we were shocked. Is the space alien friendly? We think not - he obviously had a hidden agenda, but luckily we learned that his evil plan was thwarted before it was too late.
I was further shocked when our Upper Degree OTO source, putting his shaking finger to his lips and telling us to keep it quiet, said "add 313 to 513 and you'll get 826!"
When I asked him what he was implying, he nervously said, "It's the real truth!"
"As to what?", I asked.
With his wide eyes starring at me, my informant told me that its another hidden phrase ... 826 is the same value as "I'm that conquering Space Alien." I did the math myself and quickly found out that he was right. My informant then quickly got up, turned and headed for the door claiming that if the Illuminati knew that their code was being exposed ... we'd be in grave danger. The UFO expert Allen Greenfield has warned us that "as soon as the UFOnauts and Illuminati know the knowledge of the cipher is widespread, the code will change again. Evidence shows it is already changing." 20
Where is this space alien now that he has been exposed? Although he is no longer a major Lodge Master, our inside source informs us that the OTO is still giving him sanctuary and is actually hiding him amongst their ranks. Why? It's obvious, the space alien is an Illuminati! It appears the OTO doesn't care that the space alien is an evil, evil, evil person-which in itself might reflect the direction which Crowley's organization is going today. In fact, I have also actually heard a taped phone message left on the alien's answering machine by no less than the Supreme Head of the OTO, Frater Hymenaeus Beta Xº himself. It appears that upon learning of the coded message Fr. HB immediately called and left the following message, which we quote verbatim. Frater HB states, "You should know that ah, ... found your coded message in the last newsletter. You're an evil, evil man you know that? Really, really, really evil." 21 Need we say more?
Love is the law, love under will.

4. The USS Elderidge was the ship used in the original Philadelphia Experiment of 1943 in the Philadelphia Naval Yard at Norfolk. It might be just coincidence but Rae's unidentified uncle, stationed on that very boat, just happens to get a new assignment at the air base which would later attempt to duplicate the original experiments under the name of The Montauk Project. As to what 'interesting stories' William Rae's uncle might have told him, regrettably these are not mentioned. For further reading on this subject see The Montauk Project, Experiments in Time by Preston B. Nichols with Peter Moon, Sky Books P.O.Box 769, Westbury New York 11590. It comes highly recommended.
5. In Aleister Crowley's 1947 Diaries (Pangenetor Lodge, Berkeley CA, 1994) there is an entry dated September 15th which states, "Thur.15 Lam brings Boug, another bubble headed Martian through time warp door, really cute, female." There is no indication that this Boug is the same female whom William Louis Rae met in Montauk a few years earlier but we believe she most likely is.
6. Aleister Crowley's real 1947 Diaries have been published by Pangenetor Lodge OTO Berkeley California (November 16, 1994ev) see October's entry which references the new title of Chapter XXXVII, I quote verbatim, "Tues.Oct.11 Kwang-34. Began writing Liber 273 entitled Montauk Doors and the Sacred Fishing Trips of The Unified Field Theory."

I WAS A LOVE SLAVE FOR BIG FOOT
Arild Stromsvag, of Bergen, Norway claims that he awoke in the woods one morning
after passing out from too much to drink only to find a huge, hairy, love starved female
Big Foot salivating over him. After being held captive for three excruciating weeks
Mr. Stromsvag finally escaped. When asked if he'll be giving up drinking,
Arild simply replied, "Why?"
8. Crowley is referring to Leah Hirsig his seventh Scarlet Woman.
9. Crowley wrote about these blisters in his 1923 diaries (The Magical Diaries of Aleister Crowley, Edited by S. Skinner, Samuel Weiser Inc. NY 1979 pg. 92) on July 20th, stating, "Hail unto Kheph-Ra! The curious colonies of blisters which I acquired at Montauk & have continued at odd times ever since have now started to grow very fast. Dr. Domela, to whom I showed them in 1920, had never seen anything like them."
10. Some historians have suggested that Aleister Crowley is referring to an Unidentified Flying Object and that LAM is in actuality a UFOnaut. It is believed that all of Crowley's references in this chapter about 'angels' are also classic examples of UFOnauts. Looking at Crowley's original drawing of LAM, Keith Schurholz a noted UFO expert and researcher has plainly stated that this "is obviously an image of what many abductees have reported seeing, known as Gray aliens but I personally don't support this theory, I believe that all the UFO's are in fact renegade Nazi's from the North Pole." We do not fully support Mr. Schurholz's views on this subject but state that upon reading Aleister Crowley's 1947 Diaries it is plain to see that both theories are correct.
11. It is believed by some that Crowley is metaphorically referring to starring at the sun as it slowly slipped beneath the horizon, while of course under the influence of ether.
12. Many UFO Researchers tell similar stories of individuals who have gotten skin ailments, rashes and blisters after coming into contact with a UFO occupant. This is considered by some to be a normal symptom. Others point to the fact that Crowley admits to 'kissing LAM' and possibly they also held hands as they walked down the beach enjoying the sunset. It's quite possible that from this 'hand holding' incident Crowley might have received the alien, sexually transmitted blisters.
13. This view is actually shared by many modern UFO researchers, including the author Allen H. Greenfield who elaborates this theory in his book, Secret Cipher of the UFOnauts. (IllumiNet Press Georgia 1994) and by David Scriven who wrote the classic but unpublished treatise titled 'Thelemic Ciphers of the Upper Degrees and The Grand Treasurer General.'
14. The drawing of LAM was included in The Equinox Vol. III No. 1 sometimes referred to as the 'Blue Equinox' published by Universal Publishing Co. Detroit 1919 on page 2.
15. Many have come to learn that Crowley's statements is in fact true and to verify this belief we have included at the end of this pamphlet a short article entitled 'Cryptic Message found in an Old Thelema Lodge Newsletter' written by Paul Motts of Pangenetor Lodge, OTO which we feel will presently shed further light onto the subject.
16. Luis Alvarado is the noted author of Psychology, Astrology & Western Magic, Llewellyn Publications, MN 1991. On a side note we located a strange story which appeared in the Weekly Gossip Magazine Vol. XXXIV No. 37, May 1985 about Luis and his cat. We include the article even though it has absolutely nothing to do with anything in this pamphlet, except that it explains why Mr. Alvarado never took his eyes off his cat and appeared so nervous throughout the interview. See Appendix A.

19. As to who this informant is in the upper Degrees of the Ordo Templi Orientis is anyone's guess. In this short essay, Frater Paul L. Motts decides not identify him. We did write to Mr. Motts (letter dated March 12th 1995) inquiring further details which he chose to ignore. However in a phone conversation (April 10th '95) he slipped and mentioned that this individual might be living in Marin County of California.

Appendix A
MY CAT IS THE REINCARNATION
OF RAOUL LOVEDAY
"I don't know when I first realized that my cat, Freya, is the reincarnation of Raoul Loveday." A shaken Luis Alvarado claims, but "It scares me at times, especially when I'm asleep and the cat just stares at me."
Raoul Loveday was one of Aleister Crowley's disciples who died mysteriously while living at Cefalu during the early 1920s. It is believed that Raoul Loveday died of blood poisoning after being scratched by a black cat during a botched sacrifice attempt at the Abbey of Thelema. Luis Alvarado is now convinced that Raoul is karmically being paid back for his transgression by incarnating as a black cat. When asked why he believes his cat is Raoul, Luis states, "It began one day while I was in the kitchen. I picked up this big knife to make a sandwich when I noticed my cat's eye bulge out, his mouth drop open and then it simply fainted."
A shocked Luis quickly began applying mouth to mouth to his cat. According to one witnesses, the cat, upon regaining consciousness uttered a rather loud "Meow!" Luis was quick to point out that this is not true. Luis claims he distinctly heard "Raoul!" and he believes his cat was telling him about his last incarnation as Raoul Loveday. Besides, Luis heartily laughs, "Who ever heard of Meow Loveday?" Luis further believes the knife simply scarred his cat into remembering his past life and that is why the cat fainted. Alvarado goes on, "It was like Raoul Loveday, as this cat, had god realization and for a split second he knew exactly how the other cat must have felt back at Cefalu when it was going to be sacrificed." Luis is convinced it "snapped the cat into remembering who he was."
Ever since then Luis Alvarado claims his cat has
been giving him further subtle hints. "Like the day I came
home and found my cat had knocked a book off my shelf.
It was opened to a page which had a photograph of Raoul
Loveday. Freya even had her paw on the picture." Luis
nervously continues, shaking his head, "I swear Freya
was smiling at me!" When asked by the Weekly Gossip
reporter as to why he believed Raoul had come back,
Alvarado stated, "I have this gut feeling he's come back
to do the sacrifice correct, but this time he's come back
as a cat and he's hunting for a human sacrifice instead.
I'm just terrified that I might be the intended victim. I
keep all the knives under lock and key!"
